Lmao, this mother fucker and that troll face. This guy coming out of nowhere and showing that troll Pepega smiley face is really something. So he got eaten by Chainsaw Man, is he really done? Is this how he will go out? kinda deserving to be honest. This chapter was nutty, and I loved it. Now what on earth will come out of that door? Is it War Devil? And why did Yoshida try to explode himself with Denji? Did he really cause the explosion? What the hell is even happening here? I don't know, but I don't even care, I'm in this for the craziness, and I love it. |
| Oh wow. Yoshida is dead. And, uh, I guess I'm supposed to feel something according to the past few chapters. It's really the biggest problem with Part 2: there are almost no enjoyable characters. Asa, the most interesting character of Part 2, keeps getting sidelined. Denji can only go through the same cycle so many times before it gets annoying to read. Nayuta was dead before she had time to really grow. Barem was rather neat, if only for the fact that he lit a literal fire under the characters' asses to get the plot moving every now and then. Aaaaand... that's it. Oh yeah, Barem's dead too. Cool, I guess. There are so many side characters that just exist and do absolutely nothing, or worse, exist long enough to make you think that Fujimoto is going to do something interesting with them, only to keep them in limbo. Even characters like Death, Famine, and Yoshida, "important" characters, have spent most of their time on paper bumming around and being mysterious or one-note. Yoshida is probably the worst offender as far as uninteresting characters go because the potential was there. We didn't need any more of him beyond his brief appearance in Part 1. Part 1 had lots of side characters that existed to be fodder too, but it also would let you know pretty early on in a character's appearance whether they were fodder or more important. But anyway, Fuji brought him back pretty early on in Part 2. I remember everybody thinking he might be the next Aki. Yeah, that did not pan out. We never get a sense of who he really is. He'd disappear for a dozen chapters, come back, make some vague statements, maybe help the protags or antags, then repeat. An unfortunate waste of a character. To be honest, Part 2 has been wasted potential for a year or two now. Things started to fall apart around the Church arc, and now things are just kinda happening. Maybe it'll be more coherent and enjoyable once I go back and read through Part 2 as volumes. The fandom loves to insist that it makes a huge difference. Iunno. Part 1 of Chainsaw Man is my favourite manga. Part 2 rn is a 6/10 on a good day. Mostly just reading it out of habit at this point. Oh well. It's not the end of the world. It's unfortunate, but I think Fujimoto made things too convoluted and leaned too heavily into the mayhem without slowing down to give the characters room to breathe and develop. Those weekly crunch releases surely ain't helping either. |
