I thought I'd asked this after seeing videos of conservatives being mad at the little mermaid. To me it depends on the character. If the way the character looks is a huge part of who he or she is you shouldn't change it. For example if Netflix decided to make geralt in the live action version black instead of white that wouldn't make any sense. The way geralt looks is a huuuge part of his character. He's the "white wolf" it wouldn't make sense if he was black. The way geralt just looks physically tells an entire story and makes him interesting because it makes questions pop up in your head. Why is he so pale? Why does he have snake eyes? Why is his hair grey? It's a huge part of his character. So I think it depends on the character and if how they look matters to the story of who they are. What do you guys think? |

Is the color/ethnicity important to the story? Like the darker tone of the Ishvarians in FMA or for the latin coded people in Megalobox Nomad. Or was the character written in a way that the color is part of his build or aesthetic like the Geralt you mentioned? But for your average shonen character it wouldn't make any difference besides looking different than the original, which is something i couldn't care less. |

They get their look because of mutations they go through and the Witcher trials. But geralt in particular has ashen hair bc he went through further mutations and that's also way his skin is way more pale than other witcher's so there's like a whole story behind it lol |

Excuse me op, but it isn't only "conservatives" who are mad at what disney did to the little mermaid. This bisexual man is also mad af. Thats a White European folk tale, hence White characters. Fair is fair, I demand that the next black Panther actor to be a White dude, or how about a movie set in Japan using Japanese mythos but every actor is White, imagine how "brave" "ground breaking" it would be to portrait Amateratsu has a Blonde, Blue eyes woman. Or better yet, how about take any African folk tale and give it a "new normal" "make over" by including Whites and Asians in the lead positions, stunning and brave! See how long it would last before or cities would be on fire, and the looting and murders walking on the streets doing "mostly peaceful protests" White stories/folk tales, White ppl/actors only, black tales, black ppl/actors and so on. Easy and simple. It's not rocket science. |

The same goes for Killer Be, whose phenotype parodies Japanese urban culture. Mugen is also tan rather than black to look like a lowlife, which is typical of Japanese culture where white skin is a symbol of high birth. With the same logic, you can ask me what will happen if the characters in Bollywood films suddenly become white blondes. It just doesn't make sense. |

if it adds to the character, sure go for it. if it doesn't do anything... it's fine, pointless at best, as long it's an adaptation and not a sequel/prequel. because if it is it would create inconsistency. but if takes away something from the character, it's the worst possible insult you can through at the author of the source material |

Fringilla in the live action Witcher was made black even though the show is entirely suppose to be polish. Just because they're from a certain region or country doesn't mean it can't happen when it happens all the time in Hollywood. I'm simply asking how would you feel IF it were to happen. |

Well if the author has described the character being a certain way, and then someone changes that to fit their own narrative it's a huge problem |

When will the libs learn? If a fictional character from a fictional species from an 1837 fairy tale has white skin, then only people with white skin are allowed to play said character for all eternity! |

They do it all the time in live adaptations, especially those made in the US. Like L from Death note was acted by a black man and Light by a white man. Then a lot of the US adaptations have white actors like ghost in the shell. These all had controversies too. Ideally it'd be nice to keep them the same but these days it's either done to stir up controversy or they just pick who they can/best actors for the job without worrying about such things. |

If it isn't implied in original source, I don't care. And even if it is... Sometimes adaptations change also hair or eye colour, or even style at all. I don't think I would care more about skin colour. Unless it change something in narrative |

Education and common knowledge has taken a nose dive into the ground in the last 20 or so years, but what did I expect from a gen that doesn't know how to write in cursive and can't even use an analog clock. |

His eyes the fact that he never sleeps because of his work solving cases, his pale white skin due to the fact that he stays in most of the time and again he never sleeps he stays up and drinking nothing but coffee so he's very very skinny and unhealthy looking. His look is an integral part of his character. That's why I feel they shouldn't change it. |
