| What do you hate about romance, harems, and rom-coms? I don't think I hate anything about it, but if I'm going to hate something, it's probably the storyline or a character. When it comes to harems, I just hate them because most of the time, the other girl falls in love with the wrong guy, and then they don't even make another guy, so the girl who is in love with the wrong guy can't have a happy ending. |

In this case it is a SoL instead of Romance I don't care what they think, I want to see the physical development in their relationship not how much they think and don't do anything. | damn what's with the influx of "what do you hate about romance" threads lmao anywho the 2 main things it really boils down to are love triangles and inability to form coherent sentences (I don't mind misunderstandings per se because they will always exist, it's more what causes them and how they're dealt with). more specifically I do have qualms with things like how josei smut is most of the time how someone else put it, "my wet hole calls out for him, he’s so good at fingering/sucking/fucking" which somehow permits utter stupidity at times lol, or shounen romcoms having slower development than it takes a harem protag to realize a girl's feelings, but otherwise the above 2 are the most common problems I notice |

| Lacks character dimension, most of all. But even if there is, superficiality in regards to depth & authenticity can still pose a problem that most rom-coms fall victim too. Otherwise, I hate how formulaic and monotonous they get, especially when abusing anime tropes for the heck of it. |

| For me most of the gripe comes up with cliched japanese point of view in romance, like stuttering and sweating just because sitting next to each other, while i get sometimes its ok but its exaggerated to the top and what not tsundere type girl is most prevalent in rom-com anime which is another shitty thing. Characters are same cookie cutter format as there is nothing new about them and they all follow the same trope which i have seen in many romance anime and last but not the least romance atleast for me is not entertaining as i don't get any kick in watching people in love, very controversial but i don't like celebrity gossip of their love life or any of my close friends love life debates, got my own to deal with. |

| Harem, I usually don't mind other than how unrealistic most of it is for sure. But it's anime, so this already is the realm of being unrealistic. But the one harem anime which was really a bizarre stretch into this genre was the Quintessential quintuplets anime. It's already unbelievable enough to have 5 women after you if you're just an average teenage boy, but 5 Twin sisters, all with different personalities is where I had to draw the line, since I usually don't mind harem so much. The male fantasy and all. I ended up watching it and even looked at the ending of the manga to see who mc married, but the ridiculousness of it made me truly understand how dumb harem are, but as a straight male, I'll keep on watching them. Romance is just okay. I get bored of them but romcoms are usually fun to watch. |

| Romance: I dislike drama and bishounen boy romance leads. Harems:I dislike when the harem lacks defining traits outside wanting to bang the mc. Rom-coms: I dislike sudden tonal shifts and amnesia plotlines On a side note romance widely varies by target demographics. This may be why I dislike a lot of shoujo romance like Fruits Basket. Average looking male mcs in romance are to cater to a male audience. Bishounen boys are to cater to a female audience. |

Relationships are different for everyone. I know what you mean, but I love Ore Monogatari for example. The relationship gets established as early as episode 3, and I think it remains really fun to watch until the end at episode 12. On the flipside, I also love Tsuki Ga Kirei, where the relationships is a bit wishy washy until the end, and has its fair share of drama. The difference with the type I mentioned in the quoted post though (cough, Kimi ni Todoke.. blegh) is that the drama in Tsuki Ga Kirei is realistic and is something any teen couple might encounter. |

| Harems: The more I think about most of them are just psuedo harems, I have yet was able to see a genuine harem where they actually share the MC. Granted it's not realistic irl. The fuck does that matter it's fiction at the end of the day. I don't think I have a problem with romance other than dragging the show along to just say "I love you". |
| forgot to add, this isn't like common but should there be a somewhat ntr element, most of time the conflict didn't get resolved properly. like they don't know how to solve ntr conflict which leaves a super bitter feels if caught watching this type of plot. it's why i dodge ntr stuff or take extra steps in finding out more without spoiling myself. harem can be easy to watch but they lack a proper closure, or ending. the screen time could be unfair to certain character. |

The only good Harems are literally Quintessential and Monogatari, NOTHING else. Rom-com: There's almost always zero actual romance at all. E.g. Komi San, Nagatoro, Kaguya Sama, etc. |

| Harems tend to have screentime distribution issues leading to interesting characters getting shafted in terms of development. Very frequent issue in pretty much every era of harems. Even the ones I'd consider best struggle with this. |

| I dont hate romcoms or romance in particular and if done well, Harems are great as well. The only thing that might annoy me is probably a love triangle or polygon. Sometimes a new challenger is introduced out of nowhere and is a nuisance, otherwise it becomes hard for me to decide who to root for. |

| I wouldn't say I HATE them, but romance just doesn't work well for me in an animated medium in general. The music is off or feels too manipulative, the pauses between romantic moments aren't how I'd prefer them, the blushing looks weird and overdone when seen in motion, and so on. So while I love romance manga and novels, it's hard for a romance anime to get the same happy squeal reaction from me. Anyways, actual answers! Romance: It's boring how it's always the exact same plot over and over and over again. Valentine's Day Panic/Jealousy, Midterms Study-Meet up, Horny Beach Episode, Summer Festival Fireworks Confession, Cultural Festival Comedy, Big Fight Because One Of The Two Is Busy During Christmas Date Time, Shrine Visit, Graduation Drama. Maybe throw in a sneaky school trip for good measure. At this point I adore non-school romances just for the fact that they only hit like half of the typical scenes. And don't get me wrong, I have no issue with any of them in general, it just gets stale. Harems/Reverse harems: No shade to polyamourous people, but to me, romance is something between 2 people, not a whole group. Not like romance is much of a thing in these anyways. It's just some pathetic wish fulfillment fantasy where the protagonist gets smothered with affection from ALL the hot girls/guys for virtually no reason at all. I hate how it usually makes no sense for all of them to be attracted to the protag at all, I hate how there can never be proper relationship progress with any of them because that would enrage the fans of the other harem members, and how almost always, the characters are nothing more than some sad, empty shells consisting of a color scheme and one character trait, because any more than that would require more screentime and development than the 3 minutes they get to give everyone their fair share. Rom-Coms: I generally don't hate anything about these, aside from the humor not always landing for me, but that's just personal preference. They can get frustrating when the comedy aspect rules everything, to the point where it's like...did you forget you were also supposed to have romance? Something like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun or Wotakoi are very funny to me, but it becomes frustrating when there's zero romantic progress by the end of it. |
