Is a series still worth watching if you already know a major twist in the plot or the ending?

A series that has some kind of major twist in the plot or some kind of big reveal in the ending. Say you haven't watched a series, but a major twist has been spoiled before you got the chance to watch.

Is it still worth watching if there's no surprise or mystery for you?
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

THe Promised Neverland was completely spoiled for me. I watched the entire ending of it. But I still watched it because I know there's a lot more to appreciate in anime aside from story i.e. directing, animation, etc.

So yes I will watch that anime.

I went spoiled into Clannad After Story and Death Note, first is still pretty much my favorite anime, rewatch included, and all the good parts from Death Note were still great.

It is worth it, but man it fucking sucks so freaking hard and it made me delay giving them a try because my motivation died after getting spoiled. But yeah, when I eventually watched them they still delivered hard, one thing from getting spoiled is that now you can kinda analyze things, how everything going on ends up with that spoiler happening.

I'm much more interested to the whole journey or the narrative of the show itself which will lead to its conclusion. How it get to that point is worth to know rather the endgame.

That's my problem with Naruto..
I want to watch it but i don't have the will to do it because I know all major plot points and deaths because it's so popular that you end up getting spoiled here or there.
Probably will try to watch it when I get more time to spend in anime.
For me it's difficult because I like the suspense so I tend to not watch certain animes when I know how it goes for certain arcs or how it ends.

I think the series is still worth watching although the spoilers can ruin some enjoyment as sometimes the mystery is the main element of the series but there maybe some other moments in the series that are worth watching.

for sure, if anything I think a series really shines if it manages to still impress even after knowing what's going to happen

happened with Claymore. I read about what happens to theresa before and that whole segment was still a great watch

If it's no longer worth watching, that's a sign it's not a very good story.

It depends on how well you perceive the ending. Like, for AoT, the ending completely ruined for me.

I would say it is worth watching but it depends. If I know any anime is going to have a bad ending, then I would probably not watch it. AOT is an exception.

Depends on the show I would say.

If the only thing your show has going for it is the mystery, then i can see how it might not be worth watching.

but if characters are likeable, story is decent, animation is good and so on, then it can still very much be worth watching.

I literally watched Gravity Falls (not an anime, but still illustrates my point) because of the
and it's still one of the few TV series I rated a perfect 10/10, even though I went in knowing the huge twist

In terms of anime, I also knew that
and that
and so much more, the latter of which being my favorite anime of all-time even despite the fact that JoJo is probably the anime I had spoiled on me the most and I really hate spoilers

Even considering my hatred, I don't think spoilers affect my overall enjoyment that much, all things considered

Yeah. Sometimes I'm even more likely to watch a show after I've been spoiled bc then I know the whole story isn't as boring as its first 5 episodes.

It sucks to be spoiled about a character death or a plot twist or even the ending of a series, but the context around those events or how you get there can often be just as impactful.

For a personal anecdote, my dumb ass heard so much about The Eclipse in Berserk, and not caring about spoiling myself about a series I didn't have much interest in reading, I just went straight into the BIGGEST PLOT TWIST of the series. Honestly, didn't ruin my experience when I did go back to read it through, because the events are foreshadowed a lot, but yeah.

The only time it would really ruin something is if the entire focus of the show was the mystery element.

Yes definitely, I found out about a lot of the main events for Legend of the Galactic Heroes but I still loved it. Same with Erased for the most part Clannad. A lot of the time you expect something to be happening so you can focus on what leads up to that moment, which might increase your enjoyment. Though like many people have said it depends on what got spoiled.

If spoiler or two can ruin entirely your experience for certain show, in my book this means said show wasn't that good to begin with.

AOT is devoid of fun on conceptual level.

Depends, a lot of shows are still great even if you know how it ends. Quintessential Quintuplets/Gotoubun no Hanayome for example. I know the identity of the bride but I'm highly curious as to how it actually gets there which is what no one has been able to explain to me so far.

If something is really good, it will still be good even if you get spoiled (it's just like a rewatch). Beware of shows that rely on plot twists and not much else.

Often times a spoiler has gotten me more into the series lol
I won't say spoilers for the series, but the two it happened to me was Chainsaw Man and AoT. I had already started both, but saw very important spoilers for later on about certain characters, and I was too interested to not rush ahead and catch up to those parts, respectively. I'm having a similar instance with Houseki no Kuni right now lol

I only do with shows which are too much action oriented like even if i know what's gonna happen but action and fight scenes getting animated makes it a worth a while. But if a series is more of story oriented and there is a major spoiler then i don't watch it.
2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.

Yes. You still get to explore what leads up to the reveal, the stakes at hold, the characters and world involved etc.

If possible, placing the series on-hold may be worth it. This will allow you to lessen your memory on the spoiler - or in the best case scenario, potentially even forget it.

If knowing plot twists or the ending beforehand can ruin a series, it was probably not worth watching in the first place.

Must be a shitty ass series if it has only that twist or ending to offer.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Yes it's still worth watching since I enjoy the journey rather than the destination when it comes to anime.

Altho still I avoid spoilers because the best experience is still finishing an anime without being spoiled.

It doesn't make as much difference as you think it would, it just changes the perspective you view the show from.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Yes. Knowing the major plot points does not mean you'll have noticed all the subtleties within it for things such as foreshadowing, narrative parallels, character details, etc. that may have gone over your head on the first viewing. This is pretty obvious with things such as how Evangelion's later events are perceived as confusing despite being very straightforward if paying attention to all the details presented.
If a story was only able to be worth investing in because of mystery bait and has little to offer you in retrospect, chances are it wasn't good and had to rely on superficial novelties to hide this.

Well, the only way to answer for it is to ask, Are you watching a series for this one major twist or for the overall of the amount of plot from the series? If you get spoiled on one last thing which happens for example in Naruto Shippuden does it mean that all of the previous 719 episodes around are worthless?

Of course
I was spoiled on the outcome of Marine Ford in One Piece and still consider it the second best arc in the series. The only time spoilers really ruin something is when that series relied on cheap shock value to try and stay interesting.

I would say, yes because I still don't know how the twist is conveyed to the viewer and that's interesting enough for me to watch. There might even be cases where knowing a twist might encourage someone to watch the series.

Yes and here's why. When you get recommended something by someone who knows you and has a general Idea of your taste, you already know what type of show that person has prepared for you. And you have a reason to think "yeah I'll probably love this, or at the very least like it".

Same with the situation you're describing, someone spoils you, but depending on what the spoiler is, it may get you excited about how the story got to the spoiled part and you're attention is immediately set. The spoiler may even shed light on an anime you hadn't planned on watching.
