Why are you here today? What made you pick up that first episode of anime that lead you down this rabbit hole? What is your story?

For me, I was 14 years old, I was talking daily with my best friend of that time, but nothing much really happened in our lives that was worth talking about so my friend brought up anime, more precisely she mentioned that I could be interested in watching Fairy Tail. I was very hesitant, because I didn't know what anime was (she had to explain it to me and basically she just introduced them as Japanese cartoons). Of course that made me even more hesitant because as uncultured I was all cartoon I knew was for kids. Then I was spending a week at a holiday resort but it was still a bit off season so there wasn't much interesting to do so I decided to check out Fairy Tail, immediately basically spent all my awake hours watching it and the rest is history.

I was bored as hell one day during the summer of 2019 and at that time period I hated anime without giving it a chance but on August of 2019 I decided to face my enemy and give anime a shot and after that I regret not watching anime sooner.

I was like 10 playing on the creative plots on a Minecraft server, and I had a friend who watched anime on there and she asked me if I knew what it was or if I had watched it. When I said no she told me to go watch Fairy Tail so I searched it up on YouTube and ended up watching majority of the series on there cause I didn't know about anime sites

Anime tend to have cooler premises than live-action tv series and movies. When I heard about a death game to decide who would become the next god (Mirai Nikki), that interested me immediately. Same thing with Death Note, Sword Art Online, and most of the shows that I watched early on.

When I was 4 my dad/mom would rent/buy anime DVDs and I loved most of them. I always hated mecha even as a kid, I would always ignore the anime with robots and shit like that.

I would also watch "la febbre degli anni ottanta" on boing (fever of the 80s) which would have anime from the 70-80s. They would announce it every year like 2 weeks before it would start. The anime would start airing after 8 pm so if I knew I couldn't watch it I would ask my dad to record the episodes so I could watch them later.

Grew up staying up all night watching adult swim, saw a few shows I liked. Then I managed to buy a laptop around the time anime was really easy to access online. Right around when death note came out fully.

I grew up with it since most cartoons on TV were anime, but I guess I started to really get into it and prefer anime compared to other type of shows because I read manga. My cousins influenced me to read manga because they always read or talked aboit it when we hang out.

Excluding Ghibli films like Totoro and Ponyo, which I didn't know were anime when I watched them with my family as a young child, I was pulled down the rabbit hole by a friend in sixth grade. He mentioned one day that he watched Fairy Tail, so I wanted to try it out. Since it was rated TV-14 and I wasn't 14 yet, my parents didn't let me watch it at first (they strictly followed MPA guidelines). But I convinced my dad to watch the first episode and reconsider. He did, and judged that it was kid-friendly enough for me to watch it.

My cousin watched anime and when I was with him while he was watching I would watch it but I'll probably leave in like a few mins or seconds, but one time there was this one anime that was super interesting that I watched a lot of episodes with him fast forward a couple of years and I was REALLY BORED and I remembered the fun I had watching that show but I didn't remember what happened in the show so I couldn't find it. The only thing I remembered was that it had the word Neverland in its name. I started watching anime because of the fun I had knowing that I would not know what the show is. If you want to know more then keep reading if not bye.

Fast- forward a few months, I watched some anime and it was a normal day. I was watching a youtuber who talks about anime, and then he said it he said the name he said "THE PROMISED NEVERLAND". I quickly had a huge sense of nostalgia flowing through me. I went and typed it on where I watched anime and BOOM it was there. The next two days were EPIC!!!

the way i got into anime, i was just your casual sophomore. didnt really think much about anime. when in february of 2020 my friend group started all watching attack on titan at the same time, for quite a few of them it was their first time picking up an anime. while i was late to the show i did end up picking it up and then finishing faster than most of them.

after i had finished attack on titan i told my online friend emmitt (who quite enjoys anime) that i did, and he was surprised to say the least. id then told him aot made me interested in anime, so he gave me some recommendations and it just kinda went from there.

In year six (or grade 5 for the Americans) I had a friend who watched anime and it looked interesting so I asked him what anime is I should watch,he recommended I should watch Tokyo ghoul on Netflix but when I went home and saw the he age rating( being the 10-year-old I was) I was extremely Sceptical whether I should watch or not It wasn't because I was scared but because I didnt want my parents to catch me watching lmao

But I decided to give it a go and watch it anyway and ever since then I've been in love with an anime-My mom doesn't approve though because she just sees anime as Chinese cartoons lol

I used to go on Gaia Online and my friends on there would tell me about anime. I got interested from them and also from the AMVs I'd find on Youtube and I loved the drama and animation of anime that I couldn't find in traditional cartoons. One of the people on Gaia actually recommended me to start a MAL acc so I created one too.

Stayed up past my bed time a few times to watch soul eater while it was airing, a few years later a bunch of people were talking about a cool new show called attack on titan so I decided to watch that and it seemed cool, around the same time my sister gave me a dvd for princess mononoke. These are the events that sort of introduced me to the medium and I've stuck with it since then.

Does it count as watching anime if I didn't know what it was? If yes then I started watching Sailor Moon on TV a long time ago. That turned into a lot of western cartoons and Pokemon, Digimon, Yugioh, Dragonball etc. At the time for me there was no difference between those and other cartoons.

At some point when Naruto and Bleach were airing I figured out it was called anime and knew I liked it.

Well when I was a kid I watched Pokemon on Cartoon Network. Then, in 6th grade, when I was tempted by some friends to watch anime, I started the Magi series but never got back to it until last year. I also watched Dragon Ball, but that was about it. In 2020, right before the pandemic, I decided I should watch more anime. I started with continuing the Magi series, then started Haikyuu and Naruto.

I've always liked animation so I think getting into anime was bound to happen sooner or later. Then I somehow found the entirety of Soul Eater on YouTube, and after watching that I started watching a lot of anime openings on youtube. That's how my first year or so of anime watching went, seeing a cool opening on youtube and then checking out the anime for it lol

This is kind of a weird one, and I'm probably going to date myself with this, but when I was around 13, I watched a Newgrounds animated series called "The Legend of Zelda: Unknown Origins". It was a rather crude, especially in it's early years, but it had so many memorable moments and fight scenes, that I ended up loving the shit out of it. I didn't have much experience with anime prior to this, nor did I have any interest in seeking it out, but something about this show made me interested in anime as a whole. The first real anime I watched was Bleach, and from there, my interest quickly became an obsession..

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

I guess I sort of grew with it, since I watched shows that aired on TV and vhs we had. Some of the anime we had on vhs were Space Cobra with Swedish dub and Kimba the white lion, which I think had spanish dub for some reason. Shows that really made me dig around the internet for fan and official content were Sailor moon and Ginga nagareboshi Gin. I remember being on some roleplaying forum inspired by GNG/GDW when I was 13 or so. All the rest was just stuff my sister was watching at the time, since I didn't even know english so she needed to translait subtitles from time to time. Some of the shows we watched were Girls Bravo, Rurouni Kenshin, Ai yori aoshi, Saishuu Heiki Kanojo, Yu-Gi-Oh zero. And I was 10 when Inuyasha manga got published here, so I started to buy manga and watch tv shows of them.

Though I have always been into animations so I think it was natural.
