All these small changes make a huge difference in the end. Anime always had the tendency to screw up the power levels a bit for the sake of "tension" or padding. Luffy is often the loser in these situations. Look at him vs Hody or the infamous Batman encounter xD I think people need to realize that some battles in one piece are battles of witz, not necessarly always power levels. This is not Dragon ball Z. Ulti took the upper hand because she rushed to grab luffy's arms before he had the time to retaliate and he could not do anything in that situation. Ulti also is a massive tank of a character and her head butts are pretty strong. Oda is a bit more clever when it comes to certain fights in one piece but you should all know this by now. |

And what you said is correct, however, this episode didn't do that justice, hence I brought up the manga to clarify the situation at hand in defense of Luffy and Oda's portrayal of this intermezzo. The anime completely disregarded Luffy's as well as Ulti's speed/reaction time. Whereas the manga handled it absolutely legit without making either side look too incompetent or weak. But again, the anime makes these small changes all for the sake of padding and hollow tension. I approve the former as necessary evil, yet not at the expense of inconsistencies. |

| It's crazy that we're now in the 990's! Ulti and Page 1 go "heads up" with Luffy! but I'm mixed on this episode...I really liked the animation and Luffy meeting Kaido's son for the 1st time but they really stretched it out too much. |

| That head clash with Luffy vs. Ulti had a really awesome animation. You could see the details and understand that they had saved their budget for this. Also, that Thunder Bugua had almost equal anime quality as the head clash. Both Ulti and Pay-pay (Page One) had some frightening animal forms. You could easily see that this was a quality episode, which is hard to see, even in this arc. Seeing Yamato's debut in the anime is also worth mentioning. I found the ep. quite good, though it had a lot of recaps, and thus was dragged unnecessary long. Typical Toei, so I don't care anymore. |

| I often come to complain how the quality of the anime is so bad pacing-wise, animation-wise and audio-wise, but when it is good, I also have to say it. And the introduction of Luffy vs Page One & Ulti was very good. |

| This was one of those episodes where we were clearly supposed to fawn over the animation and ignore the obvious pacing issues. I'm sorry, but the flashback of Ulti and Page One falling down the stairs wasn't needed, neither were the "tension" scenes where Luffy and Ulti were glaring at each other for like 10 seconds each time. Those scenes are always so cringy and they stood out in this episode in particular. The extended fight scenes were okay... I guess, except for that shot of Luffy punching Page One that looked a little weird and not as fluid as it should've been. Also the Yamato scene at the end felt like it lasted 5 minutes with awkward pauses in Yamato's dialogue. |
| Luffy keeps on underestimating his opponents, probably because he still wants to practice his new found Wano-haki power. That's a poor decision for someone who is in the midst of battle against enemies who have powers that he doesn't recognize. So he almost got smashed by Ulti, who despite her goofiness is incredibly powered, and got his ass saved by Yamato, who demonstrates power even beyond that of the Tobi Ropa. |

| 6 minutes for opening and recap plus the whole Ulti/Page-scene from last episode in full length... Toei is really trying their best to make One Piece not too enjoyable to watch. Storywise another fan of Luffy appears, well we've never seen that before... *coughs*Bartholomeo*coughs* |
| Let's go through the negatives first, this ep felt especially slower in pacing than even the past 10 eps, on top of that, the longer-than-usual recap of the last ep really burns through the eps runtime leaving only less than 3/4 of the ep for the new content. Now let that be the end of it... This ep's combat, although filled with overly-extended staredowns, is fucking awesome! It's the most acrobatic fights of the past 10 eps, the usual punch and kick are so much more enhanced with Luffy and Ulti jumping here and there, using the environments around them to manoeuvre themselves out of harms' way. The vibrant visual effect also adds to the aesthetic satisfaction. Yes, let's face it, it's nothing special, but man, it's so refreshing to see this style of fight in One Piece after so long! However, the main excitement of this ep for me is not the fight between Luffy and Ulti, not the many eye-candy visual effects, not the badass looking Luffy moments, no... It's Yamato herself!!! I've waited over one hundred eps for this moment and am terrifically pleased. From the way, Yamato's colour pallette looked and from the VA themself. It's all so fitting! Ahhhhh seeing how Yamato greets Luffy fully animated in all its glory is something of a wonder to behold! The most surprising thing to me is how Yamato acted to *ehm* feminine when she met Luffy. It's cute. |

| 6 minutes until the episode starts. I was excited about the fight with Ulti, she seems strong and Luffy was about to get to gear four when Yamato intervened. Yamato must be very strong to one hit knock out Ulti. |
