how many heartbreaks am i going to feel within these past 1-2 months dammit, so can we assume Shin is also dead now? if so, whats season 2 going to be about? Lena finding and "killing" Shin like how Shin went to find his brother? the cycle repeats itself? |

Tremendous quality and well done direction with great soundtracks and osts a semi solid story that brought me to tears dozen of times, the pace to was also done so well 11 for a volume that is what I call justice. Designwise Major is by far my favourite of all also we got so much funny expressions out of her that I can see them on social media for few years in the future. I don't know how the direction of the plot will go but I have hopes for the Legion to help Shin out hopefully someone else if not those other countries. 9/10 can't wait for second cour. |

They pulled nasty ending on us or at least anime watchers only. So spoiler alert I guess. LN supposed to end like this, but decided to end on same despair but hopeful not with spoiling end instead, while anime, where yall probably know it continues thanks to LN readers like me, decided to end the show in the feel of Volume 1/Season 1 only. But I have no worries about anime doing good enough for another season. |

So do they become part of the legion? I dont see them being saved, at least not from any character that we have been introduced. |

This probably the best sci fi/mecha i have watched till now. There was alot of information to take in. And everything was done in such a great manner those last moments were quite emotional. A potential anime of the year if nothing else. 10/10 Desrved |

Very very underrated, ermm... I mean, underwatched anime from this year, the characters likable, the plot is interesting, action not so good but decent enough, but the last episode is really cliffhanger. Is Shin Dead? What happened with the rest of the spearhead squad? Well, I guess I need to wait for the 2nd cour. 8/10 for this show! |

The-Wombat said: 7/10 overall for the show. Honestly, the pacing felt super weird, not just across the whole season but even individual episodes. I feel after watching 11 episodes we still have little information about the world or really anything, to be honest. The soundtracks/animation was great but i still think it had all the potential to be great but really squandered it. That is because for better or worst the director only chooses to adopt volume 1, vol2-3 would give you the crucial information you were so eager to know. NOW, adapting solely volume 1 was a decision that paid up IMO, and the fact that they did not adapt the epilogue is an interesting choice, I don't disagree or agree, it surely leaves anime onlies more in the dark, and in a way wont ruin the surprise too much. LN readers were after all reading 2 whole volumes just to see that scene appearing again. Lovely adaptation in it all matters, to me the source material is still supreme, the poetry is written there was something else, the directing of this adaptation tried to make up for it and the director deserves credit, this adaptation would have been a failure IMO with anything less. How volume 1 was written would be impossible to fully convey here, so rather than calling it a decent adaptation, I will say, it was a successful adaptation, I would still recommend people to read volume 1. Vol.2-3 had way less going IMO, so I think they are going to stand out more within S2 because this director was really great. I honestly disliked the OP, but the ED was superb, the OST was decent to good, tbh, I would have to hear it alone to make better remarks on it. Battles were really good, this is high praise, really I may sound harsh when I say successful adaptation, but again, volume 1 is that amazing. It is a miracle such talented director was chosen to this. Outside the LN, guess I will have to wait till part 2 to see more Lena's cute faces, and definitely looking forward to Frederica's. This last episode managed to make me cry, I have loved all the original addictions from the LN, but all the more these last episodes ("the baddy" Shepard from part 2 already making an appearance). Avid is a great ending theme and how this ended, with Shin seeing his brother again (won't be the last :3), some endearing and sad, Lena's scene at the end broke me, just like it did on the LN, and that little piece of magic, Shin and his brother's scene at the end was PERFECT, I smiled and cried again, FELT IT GOOD. xD Goes to show how good this director was, he deeply respected the source material and did his best, volume 1 is probably 10/10, impossible to fully adapt to be just as good IMO, due to the writing, me giving this 9 doesn't mean I m disappointed the least, this was a really good adaptation, it is just really HARD to convey all the poetry and feels, the talent the writer had when writing volume 1. I would say we are in for a treat with S2/part 2, I m putting my hopes that this director can actually improve on some stuff there I didn't like as much as volume 1 (I want to see volume 4-6 adapted ASAP). 9.2/10 = 9 |

So everyone died in the end of this generation of 86ers...boy oh boy I hope this doesn't become like that Mahou Shoujo battle arena series where the cast changed every volume or two and one or two characters was kept around to bring it all full circle. Nevertheless, this series was friggin phenomenal. I'm so glad I held off on watching it weekly and decided to binge it for the full immersion. Definitely one of the best LN anime I've seen in a long time. Hyped for season 2, can't wait to have my heart destroyed all over again. Honestly, I might have to buy this LN series. |
Don't believe the hype. |

At first I was skeptical about this since I never expect much from LN adaptations but fortunately it turned out to be quite good. I did have gripes but a lot of other things were great so it made the whole experience great in the end. Most characters quite simplistic, though likable, and often acted overdramatic. But the overall story is good enough to hook you, not to mention the overall beautiful presentation, both in production values and directing. I am sure the guys aren't dead yet, duh. Lena touring their base and finding their picture was touching. Looking forward to the next cour! |

Interesting but I think great directing choice of not adapting vol 1's epilogue to end the first cour, Shin's fate at the end do be left hanging eh Ultimately this is one of the rare cases where the anime adaptation very much triumph over the source material, kudos to the production team. Will very much look forward to the 2nd cour to see the arc I dislike very much in the novels to be bearable (or even enjoyable) in an animated format |

visuals, music and premise are good. story, characters (especially child "major") and resolution are garbage. Despite it's flaws I found it to be watchable. This show is a textbook 6/10 for me. |

animejas said: Thank god they left off the epilogue. Nice to see A-1 adjust the fact that the original volume was supposed to be a one-off and not made as the start to a long series, so the freshness of the upcoming 2nd season is retained here without any spoiling. Great episode to conclude what was truly a great anime and a phenomenal adaptation from A-1 Pictures, something I would never say about an A-1 anime given how many bland adaptations they've done over the years. The final episode adapted very little but even so, was a tremendous little conclusion to this chapter while leaving me anticipating the next one to come in the 2nd season. I'd go with a strong 9/10 for this, maybe a 9.3/10 as it's close to that 10 mark on MAL but not quite there if I really compare it to the other anime I have at a 10. But so, so close. So many things were done well from an adaptation perspective that really enhanced the material of the first volume, with the director getting the most out of nothing in terms of amount of content. My 2nd favorite anime of the year so far behind Mushoku Tensei (that adaptation and material is just on another level that it's on my favorites list) and definitely one of the best seasonals I've seen personally in my 4+ years of seasonal watching. Finished rewatching it today, just in the nick of time since season 2 starts tomorrow and I was curious as to how I would feel about it now. I sounded pretty damn passionate about my praise for this series in the past and for good reason then, but I will say, my opinions while still pretty strong for it, has decreased just a little bit with this watch. Back then I had it at a 9.3 and not far off from a 10, but now I'd probably go with a 7-8 (leaning a bit more to 8 for now) on MAL for this season. Still loads of things to like from this series and the directing was top notch but I will admit, the politics side of this series is clumsy in its execution at times, and for a series about war and being in a fictional country, would have liked more world-building to go into those elements, just to seal the deal on the writing side and make this story even more impactful. I'll also say that while my score for 86's anime decreased a bit, the anime is still far more enjoyable than the LNs, which I find too dense, clumsy and has far less appealing of a cast compared to how the anime tries to bring the spotlight to them. I'm intrigued about how season 2 will adapt the volumes, definitely won't have as slow of pacing as the first season since there's double the volumes to animate this time around, but I do hope the director continues to make little changes here and there to make the second season more interesting and appealing since I'll say, it needs the help given how the 2nd and 3rd volumes paled a bit in comparison to the first. |

Π’here were no answers to the most important questions: 1. For what the hell reason did people suddenly start discriminating against other people by color? What events preceded ??! They lived together on the same territory only 9 years ago! 2. Why do teenagers believe that those who live in the 86th district are inhumans? It's only been 9 years, and the new generation hasn't even had time to replace the old one yet! 3. What the hell kind of war is this at all? What happened to the world? 4. If there is such a cruel, despotic government in the anime, then why is it possible for the main character, almost from the podium, to show her dissent, the leadership does not react to it in any way? Is her uncle covering for her? This is nonsense, bullshit. It doesn't happen that way. Both she and her uncle would have been called to serious responsibility. 5. Why the fuck didn't Lena go blind as she should have?! Why was it necessary to introduce a topic with blindness at all, if it does not affect anything in the end? Lena should have gone blind. I've been waiting so much for answers to all this at least in the last episode... Πurtful. |

Just take a look at the US and you'll understand. No matter how much legislation you keep passing inequality somehow is still a problem. 2. You kind of answered it yourself already, the army was decimated as mentioned in episode 2 and obviously you're left with people who are probably very young but also don't know much. 3. Episode 2 showcased the Republic practically surrounded on all sides by the Legion, and those mayflys are disrupting aerial attacks and communications. As for the rest of the world, who knows? You need to read ahead for that. 4. This was already answered in episode 8 when Lena held the conversation with her uncle. It's not that the uncle doesn't want to do anything about it, he merely accepted the situation for what it has become. There's no reason for the government to do anything about Lena because she's simply background noise to them. 'Both she and her uncle would have been called to serious responsibility' Throughout the 11 episodes how many Albas are taking this war seriously. You can count the number of people with just one hand. Howitzers and shells aren't even maintained properly but no one seems to actually want to use them either. 5. The translation reads as 'can cause blindness'. Consider smoking. Usually cancer is considered a possible outcome of doing so but it's not like every single person instantly contracts it after the first puff. Consider if you were to actually share sight with someone else or even multiple people in the squad, you could possibly get away once or twice before suffering any long-term damage. |

Oh, hanks, you helped me sort out some points a little. But I will still comment further: 1. We know a lot about the US and of course we can use the local state of affairs (and it's not even just about the US, but about the whole world), but from the point of view of screenwriting and directing, we were not given even a hint to explain the policy of oppression in anime. We know why discrimination exists all over the world. We know about the events that led to such terrible things. But in the anime, so far, it looks like a plot hole. I hope that it will be closed in the future. 2. But we see a lot of adults on the streets. 3. Right. Hopefully we'll get answers to that. 4. If you look at the totalitarian policy of my country, Russia, or the policy of other countries with such a disgusting regime, you can see that no matter how strong and powerful the government is, it will in any case suppress any opposition spirit, even if it is, as you put it, "just background noise to them." 5. I can accept the assumption of blindness. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks :) |

This is what basically hitler did since this series is also heavily inspired by WW2 and humans are easy to manipulate 3. Nine years ago, the Empire of Giad declared war on all neighboring countries using an army of autonomous drones known as the Legion. So basically the empire wants to rule the world, the anime just didn't clarify this well season 2 already drop i hope they can fix the world building. 4. The Republic's Alba population was largely receptive and even enthusiastic about the new law despite its blatant racism due to a long undercurrent of prejudice against the Colorata, who were descended from immigrants. The Colorata themselves protested and rioted to have the law repealed, but the government violently quashed this unrest and carried out the mass relocation. |

It's the fault of the adaptation really, there's a lot of information they omitted due to time constraints even though S1 only adapted vol1 and i can't really blame ya hehe Anyway, thanks a lot for the explanation! The picture became much clearer in my head :) |

Well now that I've bawled my eyes out I hope the author's happy. Really intrigued to see where the plot's going in the next season. 7/10 |

Decent anime it would have been better if the characters act more realistically, the forceful comedy and the immediate act of the side characters really decrease my overall enjoyment. There are some moments which is very much over dramatic to the point that it makes me laugh. Anyway the animation and sound track was good. Op was bad but Ed was good. Overall I am giving this season 7/10. |

What a way to end...wait this is just Volume 1 out of 10...well fuc- What a way to end what has been the best anime I've watched in months. Not even Spice and Wolf for all its dialogue and economic banter would hold off against this beauty of a story. It really is regretful that I didn't watched this back in Spring, and even if I binged it, it was still a hard watch. But still, congratulations 86, you are now part of the rare selection of animes that I give a 10/10 score. Yes it's that great, and it really touched from it's hell and back. I know ill downgrade this to a 9 once I have time to recollect, but dear Lord this was such an anime. Finally onboard to pick up S2, and I'm excited for how things develop...SHIN NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! |

Slightly reminiscent of The Sky Crawlers. The endless cycle of fresh meat for cannon fodder. Depressing. |

Those last episodes were very good. I thought it conveyed well this feeling of tragedy, of characters who wanted to have a normal life but are doomed to end badly. Plus, I'm probably in the minority but despite what I expected, I ended up enjoying the 86's side of the story more than Léna's. So this show left a good last impression on me. But if I have to judge it as a whole, I wasn't as fond of it as I wanted to be. The art direction was pretty great (I often felt like I was watching a movie), the thematics interesting, the narration quite unique, but there are two main problems : too much info-dump without letting us much time to breath, and the characters being hard to get attached to for the majority of the show. Plus, while I found the 86's story to be believable, that wasn't the case with Léna. I mean, how could such a young and naive girl have obtained such a big responsibility ? How did she even managed to reach that rank ? She has the entire behaviour of someone who's all new to this job even though she's supposed to be experienced, that doesn't work. And not only that, but there were a few times where I expected things to go badly for her because of her way of going against the Empire (like when she made her speech to the classroom), but in the end nothing happened. And overall I just really wasn't fond of the melodrama with her, I mean I understand that she is naive and all but sometimes that was just too much. Which actually highlights another issue I have with this show : the overuse of characters randomly breaking into monologues about their past got very annoying after a while, it is clear the show didn't know how to properly bring those stories up. Now about the 86's side, my main problem is of course that there were too many characters which made it hard to follow at times, and even if I got a bit attached to the remaining five, it really took me a while for that to happen and that impacted my enjoyment. Another thing is, as I said, the info-dump, there's just way too much stuff that probably makes sense in-universe but is badly explained. With that I can say that I have nothing against the addition of sci-fi elements, but sci-fi works well when there is a real worldbuilding. Here it just felt like a realistic world mixed with totally non-realistic elements, that felt weird. Now I did like the show, I really did, but I thought it could've done better with what it had, it really had this potential. I'm giving it a 6/10 (though that should actually be 6.5), and I'm definitely going to watch the 2nd season (though maybe not while it's airing because my watching list is already quite big). |

Only a few moments before disaster might fall and they enjoy their fun times and found a school typically on a ghost town Shin doesn't give a shit to anyone unless he's fighting for something even though he's putting himself in danger before others Lena paying a visit to their base while witnessing the next group die before her that's sad, This is going to be good I'm so hyped for the next season. This season was just a blast from A-1's part they made this so good and every episode just progresses the series even better with the addition of that sick OP can't get a hold of it such a banger. |

An amazing finale for a highly enjoyable season. This episode too had that tragic inevitableness to it,which is the trademark of the enjoyment bestowed upon us while watching this series.Ngl first i came close to crying in that school reenactment scene, but during Lena's visit to the barracks i cried noncholantly.Overall,a very fitting final episode with an open ending and of course a Lena that's full of conviction. After all this i can say that they have the material to use in the second cour without relying on heavy expositions because anime-only watchers like me has some sort of ground to hold on to.They may move their lens to a far away place, unlike what has been the case with the solely focusing on a handful of characters.Of course what i want isn't a narration that looks at all things from above but subtle placement of memory fragments, places with special history etc.Again i haven't read the LN but i hope there is a material to be translated into this medium. Characterization-wise writing falls flat even though this setting has an enhanced sum of possibilities. It is delving into nature of war.lots of people are victims of the deceit that's coming from a higher plane.Anju, for example has this kind of backstory and i understand the need to squeeze plot points in a concise manner but whenever the chance presents itself to use more character PoVs to make the world more lively it should be used. Music was definitely one of its strong parts.Songs that's been used to seperate more dramatic moments from the rest got the job done.I didn't like the OP too but w/e. All in all i enjoyed this ride with all of its bumps and certainly look forward to what second cour has to offer. 8/10 |

ZXEAN said: There are some moments which is very much over dramatic to the point that it makes me laugh. Yeah, that's the thing that made me dislike the anime in general. I can appreciate some drama, and i can understand the situation they are in. But for the love of god, there are so many dramatic scenes, that near the end i just didn't care anymore. Somehow, i just couldn't appreciate this anime. 5/10 |

Does this get any better after this point? I honestly was expecting a lot more from this series but apart from A LOT of drama I didn't see anything. We are told there is discrimination and then got a bunch of characters introduced who were all killed off to try to squeeze out some feelings. Apart from that, there is nothing, nothing is explained about the world or who/what the heck Legion are, or anything else for that matter. No politics to try to resolve the messed up discrimination, no rebelling from the oppressed, no nothing. |

So that's how Fido died, protecting Shin. Bummer. :-/ Seeing the 86 at an abandoned school reminded me that that's where they should be y'know? Kids shouldn't be on some battlefield and for what? I liked seeing Lena again. The scenes involving her were poignant moments, especially the one where she was standing on the train tracks. Now that she's got the cat, I do wonder what she'll name it |
