So they couldn't raise enough money for Ciconia phase 2 from 1 season + a gacha game, they had to ruin the series even more.

Well, it’s finally here! Guess the 30+ episode mark did end up being true, albeit in a slightly different sense.

You say that like this hasn't already been rumored for months.
Regardless of your personal opinion on the quality of Gou as a series it clearly isn't over yet, the story could not possibly wrap up in 24 as is. So duh there's going to be more of it, it isn't finished.

MAL doesn't like it, most fans do like it

The people that don't like it are very vocal about it, but go to reddit or anywhere else and you'll see that people really like it

So 24 + atleast 12 eps (36 eps, 3 cour), or even more?

That's just the vocal minority. MAL culture is generally very negative.

Honestly Higurashi is more popular now than it has ever been.

Alright this is refreshing to know that When They Cry will continue, and we're not gonna wait that long for that package since we're only gonna wait for the Spring season to pass along.

Now Gou means Karma.

And Sotsu means Graduation.

So who knows what Sotsu will bring to us, but aside from that I am excited for more Higurashi this year.

not to mention most negative perception of this show has been gounlies who haven't watched the originals

most original viewers I've talked to view gou pretty fondly. If not a solid entry, the best one.

Unsure what the SOTSU stands for, but even after watching the original Higurashi five years ago, I do quite like GOU. the start was sketchy, but bearable enough to watch. later episodes improved.

I wonder how long it will be. 24 eps would be nice but I can see this whole thing being wrapped up in 12. I've heard some say it'll be 7 eps long? But I think they just misinterpreted the 7 from July as 7 episodes.

In my opinion, it could refer to that everyone(including Rika and Satoko) can truly escape(graduation) from the time loop.

What I'm wondering about, is what was the deal with the TV schedule listing that the episodes would keep going when in reality the next season wont air until july. I can only rationalize it as a massive fuckup due to poor communication. But maybe it was originally intended to air continually but plans were dropped? I find it very strange tbh. It's also worth considering that Higurashi Gou's air date was postponed, with the reason given siting the pandemic.

I just find the whole situation highly unconventional.

It's kinda obvious this was planned from the start, they just couldn't do everything without a 3-month break, they had to split to prevent the production from falling apart
(Passione is not a big studio and it was already 24 episodes, I bet the pre-production wasn't the best either so ofc they couldn't do more than 24 episodes without having a break, which for them isn't really a break, they keep doing their job without stopping lol).

There's no way they would, half way, "Oh, this is popular, let's keep going", like, think people.

Ciconia phase 2 was delayed because of the Pandemic, mainly due to the presence of something similar in Phase two, probably.

We know that the original plan was to air Summer-fall, but COVID pushed it to Fall-Winter. In the summer-fall pattern, they would have had a one season break in Winter to pick up again in Spring (the time that all the stations had listed for more Gou episodes). Since the break did not happen, they ran into the original reserved block, realized that they still needed the break, and here we are.

That and with Mieruko-chan now likely being Fall 2021, Passione needs the extra time to ensure that they get both shows right.

BD sales are nearly irrelevant ever since like, 2015.
Streaming services are vastly more profitable than it, and singlehandedly broke the way how physical sales basically dictated the success of a work. Most BD sales nowadays are solely linked to event tickets and limited release goods, like the very expensive one for Gou Vol1 that included a Rena figure, which is the one you are mentioning right now.

Higurashi Gou is always on the top 5 for the most viewed anime in its main streaming website in Japan (above a big shot Jump series like Dr Stone and even Re Zero Season 2 part 2). And always around that successful in chinese streaming sites as well. And mind you, most impressions are positive.

It's doing great (even first place trending several times in Japanese Twitter), and so is the gacha game that released with Gou and is likely increasing the profit by a lot, since that's gacha for you. Seeing the guild events in-game would let you know just how freaking many active players there are for it.

Wondering how many episodes it will be, because I think I'll stick with binge watching for the new season.

Watching up to the "villages-destroying" chapter in one go felt better than watching it weekly from that point on. Not that watching weekly gave me a bad experience, but I think I somehow wasted a better experience by coming back weekly to it and lose the momentun (of reveals for example).

I'm definitely hyped and Ryukishi is a genius!
