"Come, gather and bear witness to my opera, now in the making. Its script is the height of cliché, I am forced to admit. And yet... Its actors are of the finest fold; beyond exquisite. Thus, I believe you will find it enthralling."
Hello! My name is Ovidiu and I'm from Sibiu, Romania. I first made contact with the anime world when I was like 5-6 years old thru a little-known anime named Dragon Ball. Since then I watched shows like Shaman King, Naruto, and Bleach, but only got heavily into anime when I started high school.
I'm currently in college where I try not to fail (lol). I also started practicing creative writing as I'm always daydreaming, so I put that imagination to good use. And, finally, I'm trying to make my MAL profile more appealing to the world (whatever that may mean).
1st anime: Dragon Ball
50th anime: I honestly can remember xD
100th anime: Hellsing Ultimate
Currently reading: Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson
Visual Novel I'm currently reading: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni
that sounds suspicious, why wouldnt they give an exact goal to reach? Surely they would know how much exactly it would cost.
Chuunibyou has a 2nd season? huh...
I wonder how it felt for a Mami fan to rip off the head to get into the movie lol
It wasnt just that, and even then the Lisa and Eleonore subplot was simply a product of the time they lived in. They did live in Nazi Germany after all.
The fact that most of the female chars take either a lover's or stereotypical woman's role (staying behind waiting for their loved ones to return, existing only to give comfort to the male MC,etc.), with the only exceptions being Kei, Eleonore and Beatrice. Also how a majority of the female chars seem to have their goal be getting married. And that it seems to be implying that women like Eleonore are not considered true women. Tho i could just be spouting nonsense.
If i wanted a GILF id rather have Lisa thank you very much.
I even made a meme that i used to annoy my Dies Irae hating friend:
"SPEAR THAT CANT MISS, ALWAYS KILLS, AND IGNORES DISTANCE. ALSO BURNS THE SOUL JUST BY LOOKING AT IT"
I have a strange idea, would Madoka from Madoka Magica along with every other Magical Girl be able to fight off Reinhard and his legion? Ignoring the fact that he cant truly die as long as Mercurius lives.
It could be both, in fact all-fatal lances that never miss seem to be very popular in mythology. You have Irish Myth with Cu Chuulain, Norse Myth with Odin, and the holy lance.
If it makes you feel better she's just below Rusalka lol
Marie's ultimate attack: Hug of Doom.
You should see the actual dub, i found it good to the point where i dont wanna see it in japanese cause i think English fits the setting better.
I took a look at Methuselah and it made me wish Interview with Kaziklu Bey was translated. Apparently this guy is between the 3 colors and Reinhard in strength.
I posted in the Dies Irae reddit thread btw, good to finally have more people to talk about it with. Tho, i initially didnt want to post because i dont like writing giant essays and i felt like i have nothing new to say, but at least i got my point across. It was also great to learn why fate is compared with Dies Irae.
Chuunibyou got my attention because i heard it makes fun of chuunis, is it true?
Yup, also i finished the last other story. Just some lighthearted fluff nothing more, it was basically "Rusalka gets thirsty and a wedding."
And wow, Lotus is savage. "Can you at least imitate Lisa's voice? That will get help me get it up in no time if i close my eyes." I can taste the salt from Rusalka fans.
Also Kasumi looks really...different in this story. I couldnt tell it was her for a while.
C O N C E P T U A L C H O K E S
Apparently he and Reinhard are memes on the vs battle wiki. "Reinhard throws his spear."
When i first saw Gilgamesh vs Reinhard and saw the majority saying Reinhard, i didnt believe it. This was only when i first started Dies Irae and never saw all that Reinhard can do. Now ive been enlightened. Longnius > Ea. And if that wasnt enough, Reinhard's arsenal of WW2 soldiers and LDO abilities are just better than Gate of Babylon. Its like if Reinhard is Gil's older brother.
Its so hard to find memes for this series honestly, i could only find these on my own:
I think it only involves the 3 colors and Reinhard. There is also Norse Runes on their outfits and even on Reinhard's spear. Also Reinhard calling Gladsheim Valhalla, which makes senese since its a place where people fight to train for the end of the world. Reinhard having a 1-hit kill spear is very similar to Odin's Gungnir.
Have you even seen my anime list? Ive seen tons of fate. And i can see the similarities. Gilgamesh is practically Reinhard Lite.
Rusalka bumped herself up
Shirou is basically a meta take on the stereotypical "cool guy" and also used to play with the concept of plot armor. Also he's totally not inspired by Dante from Devil May Cry, nope, not at all. But can i just say that Shirou's angry face looks really weird?
Speaking of, what happened at the last part of the final 3-way battle? Did Marie just come in and beat everyone?
Oh, and another complaint i have is that the romance is the weakest part of the story. Except for Kei's, the other pairings seem to only be used for the sake of plot advancement, the worst case being Marie x Ren, its literally the reason they fall in love. Tho i guess Mercurius intended that too...huh.
Well i thought Hellsing Ultimate was cool, so this might be funny.
Part of me wants to watch episode 0 just so i can see Die Gotterdamerung without having to read it again, but the animation from the Wilhelm vs Schreiber fight makes me nauseous.
OH and before i forget, one thing that annoys me about the anime is that how foggy it is all the time, did you notice that?
All 3 of them. oh yeah...
Ah, and another nitpick, the music sometimes makes the chars with deeper voices hard to hear, specifically Michael, Eleonore and Reinhard.
Ah, and i finally finished Rea's route, only have the last Other Story left. And what can i say? this is one of the greatest things ive read!frankly i usually find reading boring. I give it a 9/10.
I dont know what i can say that isnt blatantly obvious, but the things i liked most was the chars (All of them had their roles and unique traits, including the likes of Spinne and Kasumi who do almost nothing. I kinda feel bad for Spinne for always being in the background lol), OST (favs are Holocaust, Omnia Vanitas, L:D:O, Dumme Marionette, Letze Battalion, Shade and Darkness, Einjerjar themes and the 2 songs used for the final Rea route 3-way battle.), the Artwork and just the general story. Also the usage of Norse mythos makes me happy.
I recently learned what Chuuni is and this is perhaps the most Chuuni thing ive seen. Its like what Gurren Lagann is to the mecha genre if that makes sense.
Top 5 male chars:
1. Reinhard (This may sound extremely neckbeardy, but he reminds me somewhat of myself. Im very easily bored and nearly always so. In fact, if i could have an Ahnenerbe, id say my craving would be "I long for a searing flame to ignite this cold soul of mine.")
2. Shirou (Basically Reinhard but more human.)
3. Wilhelm (I have a weakness for chars that love battle and are bloodthirsty like Kenpachi from Bleach. Plus his voice is great.)
4. Schreiber (Same as Wilhelm but Wilhelm is better imo.)
5. Valeria Trifa (I also have a thing for corrupt priests like Kirei from Fate.)
Top 5 female chars
1. Beatrice (She's too pure for this series, thats all i can say. And yes i think she's arguably more pure than Marie if that makes sense.)
2. Kei (Great char development and best heroine.)
3. Eleonore (Her voice is arguable more commanding than Reinhard's)
4. Ellie (Always knows how to lighten up a scene, aside from being just as cool as Shirou.)
5. Rusalka (Great background and later development in the Rea route.)
I now have this as my wallpaper:
I do not regret my decision to watch the shitty anime adaptation, had i not, i wouldnt have read this masterpiece. Is it weird im interested to see the dub, if only to sate my curiosity?
That reminds me, one complaint i have is that the story couldve been ALOT shorter if they cut some of the rambling. There were times i was screaming in my mind "ok i get the point now can we continue the story plssssssssssssssssss". The unnecessary length also makes it easy to forget earlier plot points. Like right now, i only have a general idea of Kei's issues. I guess it kind of fits tho since Mercurius himself said he likes to ramble and knows it annoys people.
Another complaint, well more of a nitpick, is that they dont use the Einjerjar themes more often.
Exactly, the Choice of Games series has tons of stories. Ive only played 3 of them. Here's the summary of Choice of Rebels:
Part of me is hoping that actually, but hope sets you up for despair
oh yeah lol
In that aspect, Mercurius reminds me of a fanfiction writer trying to get his dream waifu to fall for his character.
Speaking of, they said that Rea taking the 1st step forward is what caused the spilt in the round table, yet wasnt Rusalka the one who made the 1st move? Or am i missing something?
I do actually.
I thought that was obvious tbh. Schreiber's chant for example show the contradiction between his 2 wishes, that being to run away and to be embraced.
Reinhard and his legion also remind me of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann due to Reinhard being made up of millions of people as well as using the powers of all his subordinates.
Even tho i havent fully finished the story, i think its safe to say that Dies Irae is basically:
"A god plans out his assisted suicide with his best friend, a nazi chad, while planning on having his waifu do his work for him." My poor attempt at humor right there...at least i tried.
Rea's route really puts into prespective that every single character couldve solved all of their problems if they had just stood up for themselves and fought against the source of their problems rather than do the bidding of said source.
It didnt help that i was sick while reading it so that sucked some joy out of it. Its not to fun to read when your nose is all stuffy and you have a dull pain in your head.
Also, i was actually browsing r/visualnovels earlier and after some digging i found some very good discussion threads about the series. Its hard to find places and people to talk to about it. And through my digging, it made me appreciate the story more by looking at the various curses the chars go through as being bound by a cliche by an author. Mercurius is the writer of this opera after all.
I finished the "danced to the mercurial tune" ending. And i was impressed. Its a shame we will never see Reinhard vs Mercurius animated. Or maybe its a good thing it will never happen considering the anime...For a moment it reminded me of gurren lagann from when everything suddenly went to space, im surpised Mercurius didnt throw galaxies at like shurikens lol.
But let me get this straight, so in the end, mercurius got the ending he wanted and let Marie take over as god. But why did he not expect her to appear?
Also Ren, due to his nature as Zarathustra and being one half of Lotus, the other being Machina, is sent back to his original time in WW2 like everyone else?
And the meat of Mercurius' problem is that he wished to know everything there is to know, his lust for knowledge eventually leading him to becoming a god that is constantly plagued by foreknowledge that he himself wished for right? And ever since, he's been searching for a way to die (hence Reinhard) and someone to replace him (Marie, tho it can also be Reinhard.)
Overall, the Rea route was a bit confusing but still great. I still liked the Ren vs Reinhard fight in the 3rd route better for some reason tho. Maybe it was because it was more...grounded? Personal?
Oh shite, im late to saying happy birthday to you RIP.
Lots of great stuff in the Rea route btw.
That Ren vs. Shirou brawl was dope af. RIP Shirou
It was also great to see Wilhelm finally get what he wanted after so long. Schreiber still living cheapens it but at least he died thinking he won. Now we have even more reason to defeat Reinhard, so he doesnt get triggered by the truth lel
Needless to say, that whole brawl with Overture Ren and the 3 commanders was great too, and theres 2 endings to this right?
Im on the part where to choose between beating Reinhard or saving Rea, and it was very fun to see a mass defection within the LDO. The best part was that according to Rusalka it was completely unintended lol. She just wanted to screw over Trifa.
Sakurai's death tho ;-; it legit surprised me cause she gets a good ending in the other 3 routes. I kinda feel bad for her cause everyone in the story is just telling her that she sucks and her wish is bad (even tho it kinda is). RIP Best girl.
Does Trifa keep his Divine Vessal powers despite being Reinhard's body and its weird for the body to be working against its owner? If so, the situation isnt hopeless since no one except Reinhard and Machina can hurt him and whoever faces him will be stuck in a stalemate.
Such a shame that Rusalka got shunned only because she was beautiful and great. T H I C C Rusalka > Loli Rusalka anyday.
I know this was a supposed to be a serious moment and all, but...
Well technically she is lol
Also, i reached the part where Sakurai basically tells Ren and co why they messed up, and the whole reason Rusalka bothered to help Himuro was to ruin Trifa's plans?

Im assuming that guy who somehow beats reinhard, mercurius and ren ALL AT ONCE is the strongest?
So...we arent getting IkaBey?
I plan on getting to Chuunibyou once i catch up on VRAINs and Darling in the Franxx
Ouch, oof, too savage:
By any chance, did you ever feel Dies Irae was a bit sexist?
I even made a meme that i used to annoy my Dies Irae hating friend:
