Winter_Fox said: This episode is okay-ish, the pacing is definitely not that good. They make Hector less menacing and instead focusing on longgg dialogues between beatrice and shima. Having to wait one week with this slow pace is killing me :( the last scene were pretty great tho, the rivalry between roswaal and Subaru. I just hope for the rest of episode they will make the fight scene look more polished and impactful. May I ask how the pacing wasn’t good? They cut almost nothing and I thought Hector was portrayed well. |

BromWalar said: Probably the weakest episode of the second cour. I too was not expecting the kiss at the beginning but am glad it was there; re zero showed us that gore is not the only thing this show can pull. I am very much looking to Subaru and Emilia meeting ones more and interacting. Hopefully something like that will happen next episode. I guess the next episode will be action packed. I personally thought it was stronger than episodes 1 and 2 of the second cour. Really dialogue heavy but still great |

I’m saddened to say this when they are obviously going above and beyond with this show by giving as 30-minute episodes without ops and eds but they really dropped the ball with the overall pacing. This arc was freaking amazing in the light novel but this overly slow full of flashbacks pace doesn’t translate into an anime medium at all and they didn’t do enough to fix this problem. And to make things worse instead of shortening some of the overly melodramatic and padded dialogue they cut some important details here and there in order to save time instead (for example they butchered the details of the bet between Roswaal and Subaru but they let Emilia hug her mother for 10 minutes in front of the people who came to kill them or in this episode the overly long farewell scene with Betty). Couple that with the fact that it’s really obvious that they are struggling with the production values .... and now I'm depressed like Hector. |

Damn that Echidna deep kiss though! So while we're told how the sanctuary started, we also got to see the relationship between Ryuuzu and Beatrice. That was a pretty sad backstory. I now know where Roswaal got his way of speech from lol. I wonder what he did tot the Devil of Melancholy to obtain that way of speech. That talking between Roswaal and Subaru was intense as fuck! |

Returnbywaifu said: yeah I also wasn’t that big of fan of Subaru confronting Roswall again. It was different in the Webnovel. In fact arc 4 in general is structured differently in the Webnovel. They cut a lot of content from the Webnovel to fit the light novelThat's quite the steamy kiss for Re: Zero. I understand the people saying it came out of nowhere but I personally welcome it because it goes against that waifu purity bullshit of female characters not being allowed to kiss someone other than the MC. I take great satisfaction with people being disappointed by that (not the ones saying it does not add anything from a narrative stance). Anyway, it was a rather good episode but I also think the dialogue between Subaru and Roswaal, which I usually like, is starting to feel a bit dragged because at this point they have already challenged each other (straight bet and all), so coming again and saying "give up" lessens the tension in my opinion. Taking the context into account I think this should be resolved with actions and not words, regardless of what will happen with Roswaal after the fight. That being said I have been enjoying the flashbacks and the character developments of all the characters (except for Garfield maybe?). Some time ago I did say I didn't give a damn about what would happen to any of the characters and was staying just because of the mysteries, and the reason was precisely because of how antagonistic and undeveloped all of the characters on the "good side" were. Like, the majority of things they had done up to this point were to insult, humiliate, and/or kill Subaru (if Subaru deserved that or not is another question). I'm very grateful for the second part of season 2, since I really needed something like this to stay. It also helps that I don't mind slow pacing like the majority of people. Now that I'm starting to like the characters the only thing I'm worried about is the potential increase of harem-like elements, and more girls falling for Subaru. Really hope not. The longer the dialogue, the weaker the emotional impact. At least make them sound serious instead of shouting all the way. You only need the shouts at the emotional climax parts. In the novels, roswal is a prodigy in magic, even though it was still a one sided stomp, we at least see him casting op magic to buy time, but here, it just looks like he just go out to be a punching bag. Also, why did they cut out beatrice ethics teacher? maybe they add it when subaru confronts beatric? it feels out of place to place that scene there though. And some random rants about the other episodes Pandora was controlling the minor spirits/'fairies' the whole time. Which is pretty important bit but they dint show it, because she lured emilia outside the princess house to the seal. And emilia believes all that happened is because she broke her promise with fortuna to not go out of the princess house. Thats how her obsession with promises started. Throughout this season we seen some highest AL tier magic but they all have been pretty underwhelming, even with ram vs garfiel, ram just shows up , give a few punches and then nothing else? what was she even there for if everything she does is going offscreen. she was supposed to stomp him for a bit before the burden of being unhorned gets to her in the novels. But besides those, it's still a pretty good adaptation compared to most anime i guess considering that they have to squeeze in a 100+ chapter arc in one season. Knew this was going to be a cool down episode. I wish we had a whole ova of Roswaal past with Betty, and the others. I love the goodbye between Beatrice and Ryuuzu. It's hard to hate the people you love. So many unspoken feeling Betty must have towards her mother. Who the fuck is Hector? Everybody always on some other shit in this series. I love it lol. Not to much to say in this episode. Just a little cool explanation. Guess we heading to the Mansion arc now? Can't wait. 3/5 I agree this episode was quite slow. It feels a bit like padding honestly. BTW. When you said this: "Funny how Echidna shamed Emilia for kissing Subaru, but kissed Roswaal as soon as they met lol. I guess she really is a witch who occasionally does nice things." I almost fell out of my chair. You're so right! Echidna out here accusing people of hypocrisy but she's a big hypocrite herself. It's a running theme too. Echidna accuses Subaru of being a hypocrite, and accused Emilia. Her behavior with saving the beastfolk for her own personal reasons is hypocritical though, and her reason for wanting to help Subaru and make him a pawn is also hypocritical. |

The ED is a straight banger, maybe even nailed for ED of the year already. Too bad we may not even hear it again this season :') Great episode, another crazy strong character introduced in Hector who's left me wondering if there are more people with the title of Devil running around in the series. The last scene between Ryuzu and Beako was really sad and executed perfectly, honestly White Fox are doing such a great job with this series. This season has mostly just been epic flashbacks and backstories but it looks like we're going to get some actual progression in the sanctuary from Subaru now and I can't wait!! |

I haven’t watched him because I’m a web novel reader and I don’t need too but I’ve had some of his videos on my recommended list. I’m sure you’ll find him if you search for “re zero cut content”. It’s not that they cut anything very major but many little things likes how the Witch of envy’s behavior is explained because she has two different personalities, the details of the bet etc etc that make me question why the hell they though it was more important to keep Fortune saying that see loves Emilia for the tenth time instead of including them. Ln translations are obviously illegal but you can find the web novel translation in the “Witch Cult Translations” site. |

Or was it another Roswaal?(with H or anything) Long answer: spoilers. His soul is more than 400 years old. He uses a soul-transfer spell to, as the name suggest, transfer his soul to another body. He's been using members of Mathers family to do that for the past 400 years. He used a female body in the past to bear a child, who he later used as a new vessel. The first Roswaal was named Roswaal A. Mathers. It means the current one is the 12th incarnation (the 12th body). |

That kiss was the hottest thing I've ever seen ngl. It was sad seeing the farewell between Ryuzu and Beatrice and in fact, the whole flashback segment was a really nice surprise since I thought the flashback stuff was over. found myself drifting off quite a bit , i'm all for heavy dialogues but the format just doesn't feel that exciting or engaging for how long it went on ( also another super OP character has shown up which im just not gonna even process for how seemly unbeatable they seem),will say Hector's speech pattern sounds a lot like current Roswaal i just dont get it this season is killing me and it's not even worse than later parts of season one also wondering what the true total episode count will be if you factor in how much bonus run time this has gotten lol thought it would be a full 29mins again but they hit us with the ED for once |

Still don't understand Rooswal.. I mean, how could he even believe in what he was talking about, he doesn't make sense. Well, unless Echidna locked Hector inside him, that would explain his disappearance and also Rooswal's way of speech. But as for why the barrier was so important for Echidna... I'm really not sure. I mean, was Hector there on behalf of Pandora? But I guess the why won't get answered until much later on. |

The new guy Hector shown in the flashback fucked up Roswaal pretty hard back then... but he recovered alright as seen in the present. Hector had some connection with Echidna too. Recently there have been showing up a lot of powerful people. Roswaal has accumulated quite a bit of negativity in these 400 years. Ryuuzu bid farewell from Beatrice, so sweet, but sad, kinda wish Ryuuzu gave Beatrice a hug though. |

Was anyone else screaming in their head "Why are you kissing a guy who just vomited?" during the Echidna-Roswaal kiss? For me, that fact alone made the kiss worthwhile, since it definitely added to the creepy factor of Echidna. No normal person passionately kisses a person who just vomited. |

Now we have a new super op bad guy the villain of the week I suppose rofl, or is that the villain of villains, which witch watches this new watch or should I say the new big baddie of the show... god this show is going everywhere but nowhere at the same time. Can't wait for people to go muh can't you see the depth and world building, I'm forgetting another buzzword, oh yeah character development "hurrr duh haven't you seen that kiss scene"... I may need a recap I legit almost fall asleep half way, even the "fight" wasn't interesting, make up guy find his doppelganger and is beaten to death(great youtube vid title BTW), also we get it the pink hair is a sacrificial lamb, doesn't need to have a 5min dialog/crying over it, if anything this episode seems rushed and it rushed the wrong parts while leaving most boring parts in, dude seriously we get it show don't tell..... We prob could have had an opening and a normal length episode if they cut half the bullshit but noooooo we need fan service so people can discuss another kiss scene(not that I mind episode length just a basic observation). Like how many new baddies have we been exposed this season, 7? 10? 15? And we don't know why they are the "bad" other then they told us so or they killed some people or beat someone else.... The only real bad that have a clear motive that we know off are the hirelings, well they are mercenaries so duh obviously bad guy, that suspect dude hired to assault his own mansion and servants because yeah I look sus so I must be sus, follow the good book and do sus things(god really this is the best you guys can come up with?). The rabbits they are basically a force of nature, so they are "neutral" at best, and on top of that it's something that MAY happen in the future, everything else it's trying to be in a grey area and it's failing miserably and tons of people insist in calling this a masterpiece. We have re:zero(get it I can be smart too) reason to fear any of the witches so we can cross over at least 7 baddies, the only real menace is Roswall twin brother, that beat the shit out of him for some reason 400 years ago, and that Pandora chick, that want to open the seal for god knows why I guess her name has something to do with it... and both of these have happened in the past.... So what we are fighting for again? Ohhhh I get it's called foreshadowing they are gonna show up again and protag-kun will have to deal with them in the future.............. PEAK FICTION RIGHT HERE. This is what episode 17 or something of this season and we haven't dealt with a single threat and every week a new bad motherfucker shows up.... soon they are gonna have to call the power rangers to deal with them in a weekly basis..... PEAK WORLD BUILDING RIGHT HERE. The only way to deal with this is Subaru pulling a hand from his ass not his stomach(I'm still laughing my ass of from that scene, can't believe that actually happened holy shit I legit thought I was watching some kids show), or they giving a new power to someone, maybe hmmm I don't know, one of them for some reason can speak/control nature ohhhhhhh PEAK CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT(also power of friendship woorrrrayyyy).... jesus..... fucking..... christ....... slowclap There is no way in the seven hell we are watching the same show, if you genuinely think this is peak fiction/ world building or witchever(get it witch cause it's a show that have witches, aint I smart can I be a re:zero fan also?) other buzzword you want to throw out to look cool... I wish I was wrong but I was right, the moment I saw that twin girl was still "alive" at the beginning of this season I knew something was wrong and that I prob liked season 1 for all the wrong reasons and people kept saying "keep watching it gets better" well it did for like 5 episodes not gonna lie but then shit hit the fan again this show is legit hot mess with no direction at all... I legit tried my best to like this season, holy shit these couple last episodes about Emilia past was so fucking good and then we are back to this shitstorm holy fuck.... Let's talk about some roller-coaster right here. I guess you all were right the best normie thing in this show are subaru deaths and I should've enjoyed them more... maybe this is really what this show is really about see subaru die the most horrific deaths, that's not why I came here but it's probably why I'm gonna stay(The one thousand rabbits death was metal as fuck). Basically half of you like this show because you like to ship couples holy fuckkkkkkkk yeah I'm definetly watching this show for the wrong reasons......... And to think most of you think this is the best arc..... Can't wait for more torture to myself and Subaru kun. Now I'll leave you all within your echo chamber of this is the best show in existence and never disturb you guys ever again. |

This guy is legit having a stroke |

Honestly a bit too much dialog for my liking, hopefully it will make sense in the later episodes (or seasons). Kiss was SPICY. ED visuals were great and made me like the song even more (surprisingly I loved the song from the beginning haha). 5/5 was given strictly for the ED visual. |

Great episode again. Didn't expect the kiss but damn there's no way Roswaal wasn't gonna fall for her after that. Not that anyone could resist Echidna's charm. Nothing like a good old mana transfer. Really like the contrast between Roswaal and Subaru this episode, the former believes in the weakness of people to constantly fall down and the latter believes in their strength to stand back up. Finally! Visuals for the ED, that was beautiful. Seeing Emilia smile in the ED makes me smile too. |

damn, that was good, in moments like this i wish i knew japanese tho the full story of re zero is so crazy, we even got a new op guy, a Devil, maybe the male type of a Witch? and looks like Rosswall talks like him, really interesting |

ngl although it was short, the Roswaal, Echidna, Ryuzu and Beatrice segment that felt quite SOL was really touching, made them look almost like a whole family. Which made it hurt 100x more when things came crashing down. Roswaal's past was hella interesting, his quite interesting meeting with Echidna, then becoming her student along with Beatrice and Ryuzu. Beatrice farewell to Ryuzu was really heart breaking ngl, was still recovering from the last few episodes, but damn they didn't hold back ;-; also good reminder about how sad Beatrices past is as well. Definitely getting caught out with the sudden appearance of new characters, first Pandora, now this "Hector" character that seems to play a significant part in the creation ([i]or rush[/u]) of Sanctuary. Honestly my slight complaint would be it can be quite overwhelming to, on top of an especially big lore dump this episode, have a new character thrown at us so quickly with very little explanation on who they are, but that could just be me. Only noticeable thing i can scratch away from his character is, Hector definitely seems to carry a similar get-up and i would go as far as to say the same weird speech pattern, that our current Roswaal has today, definitely raised some flags in my head. Pretty dialogue heavy nearer the end, massive 1ups to Garfiel this round, held his ground against Roswaal and defended Subaru, instead of getting aggressive which i really thought would happen as it would of fitted his personality, but the talk back he gave was much better imo, and showed that Garfiel isn't always just fists and muscle. Really interesting talk from Roswaal and Subaru, saw Roswaal practically break character, and with the reveal of his past, i can definitely see the similarities Roswaal and Subaru share when regarding doing what ever it takes, and pushing ideals onto loved ones, however Roswaal's being pushing "weakness" and Subaru's being "encouragement" or "strength". All in all i want to say their talks, ended on a stale mate with Roswaal refusing to back down and Subaru hitting a dead end in trying to reason. Really looking forward to next episode, cannot wait! |
