I think that people who starts with slice of life are the ones that appreciate this community the most and are the ones who get really invested in Japanese culture as a whole, there is nothing bad with liking shonen but, they are the most elitist when it comes to criticize a anime or be the most hateful, maybe due to just starting with anime and they need to understand the wide ocean we have in this art form.

That's because shounen anime is easy to watch and understand, they're made to grasp quite a wide range of audiences, especially battle shounen. New anime watchers can easily enjoy them and have a good first impression of watching anime.

I grew up on them, I like the format. That being said, its hardly the only thing I watch.

I've been watching anime for 15 years or so and I still watch new shounens when they come out, if they interest me, so its not something only "new people" watch.

Don't limit yourself to any genre.

Cause most of the mainstream animes are Shonen, and they dont know where to start on their own. But it isnt a bad start as long as they dont stay in the same spot.

That's a fair point. Shounen is far from being a bad genre, but it doesn't hurt to diversify a bit.

"Why does Newbies gets attracted to Shonen animes?"

1. Battle shounen fans are the most vocal part of the fandom and have being such historically. (For example "The Big Three"...out of actually hundreds anime titles which reached western television.)
2. Just check all the requests for recommendations going by this pattern: "Hello, I am newbie and I have watched Battle Shounen 1, Battle Shounen 2 and Battle Shounen 3. What are your recommendations?".
They will get even more battle shounen suggestions.
3. Many people have no concept of personal preferences and just want to be part of the herd. They are not actually interested in japanese animation. They will never do a research of their own just ask "What's trendy?" or check the ratings "X is rated below 8 and ranked 1200, it must be total trash!".

Yeah, something happens once in 10 episodes, the rest is recaps and flashbacks.

The answer is fairly obvious, it's easy to get into really, the storyline is easy to understand and it's action heavy to keep you entertained. That's the reason they appeal the most to anime fans.

i prefer my anime to be simple and to the point. not a lot of thinking required. that's what the majority of shonen animes are like, and that's exactly why i watch it. if i wanted to something complicated that require a lot of thinking, i would've just worked on my college essay.

The only shounen shows that I have seen is DBZ, and while they are attractive at the beginning, they tend to grow out boring fast, plus fillers, predictable fights and extended arcs.

Lastly I prefer to enjoy more variated genres when comes to Anime, since their shows have such a rich diversity when comes to storytelling, that I ignore shounen shows totally.

Can't comment on DBZ, but it helps somewhat to not avoid the fillers (if you know of them beforehand), but overall it ends up being a repetitive sequence.

Specific type of action. Eg action series tending to question the mc morals or shows the ramifications of their choice would not fly with many. Doing heroic deeds yet knowingly killing civilians in the process is the epitome of anti-shonen action.

One reason Cannon God Exaxxion was never adapted to anime and English manga release was seriously edited (underage sex) or cancelled (due to subsequent rape scene).

It's not just newbies that like shounen or "battle shounen". Even though I'm an oldie is still like shounen for all the many reasons mentioned in this thread (fun, fast paced, fight scenes, camaraderie, adventure etc....).

You never grow old of many of these aspects. I tend to watch a lot more SoL, seinen & shoujo than shounen nowadays, but I still have Black Clover and One Piece on my watching list and will pick them up and indulge in a shounen binge every now and then. I only completed Hunter x Hunter 2011 for the first time a few months back, although it took me over a year to complete. Also watched Demon Slayer couple of weeks back and that was great, I thought it was darker than your typical shounen though, and more gory.

It's simple, approachable, and highly engaging. Shounen has developed a winning formula for attracting large audiences with its spectacle and broad, easily digestible tropes. It's the genre with the broadest appeal overall hence its popularity. People who aren't as entrenched in the anime scene are going to naturally gravitate to the shows that are flashier and more popular than the weirder and more obscure stuff.

This is true of every other genre or medium. There's a reason the most popular movies are Star Wars and Avengers movies and not stuff like Enter the Void.

A lot of us older anime fans (30+) grew up watching shows like DBZ, Pokemon, Naruto and One Piece. They'll always have a special place in our hearts. Even older stuff like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Ninja Scroll and Ginga played a huge role back then.
Call it nostalgia or whatever, but shows or movies that can bring back the same feeling now as when we were young will always be appealing.
That said, I'm incapable of getting into some of the newer shounen, like BNHA and HxH.

I don't consider myself a newbie, but also not an expert (most of my "plan to watch" list is about slice of life) too.
I grew up watching The Big 3, DBZ, Death Note... etc. on the TV when I was like 10 years old or so, basically. So from the very start I always have found shonen anime / manga appealing.

The shonen market is the most popular overall, and you can find every kind of genre in that demographic: from SnK to Naruto, from Jojos to Evangelion. Some plots are more mature, and some others are more youngish. No matters if your are starting or you are a veteran, there are at least a couple of shonens for you.

Hunter x Hunter, Shingeki no Kyojin, Death Note, Evangelion's manga and FMA are shonens. They have a more mature target audience, but still focused on teens. The same reason for Tokyo Ghoul and One Punch Man being seinen.

Edit:

they're easier to follow and tend to catch your attention more. plus shounen contains some of the most popular anime so that's where everyone starts off. you can watch romance irl but seeing a guy have fire coming out of his feet to pass through space and time to beat up his albino time stopping younger brother who he thought died in a traumatic fire but ended up being a leader of a borderline terrorist group isn't something you see in most irl shows. plus, most newbies are teenagers which is the literal demographic of shounen lol.

Battle Shonen are appealing due to the easy-to-follow story, characters and fight scenes; also because they are the most well known to non-anime fans. There is nothing wrong with starting out with a battle shonen as long as you branch out into other genres.

I won't say anything else, since I can't add anything more without reaffirming something already stated.

Battle Shounen have interesting fights, and they are made for the mass market. The big question isn’t why it’s popular, but rather why the West hasn’t been making animated fight shows with the same level?

I'm not a fan of a lot of the long battle shounen in general, but I think the attraction comes from the fact that they're a lot like Hollywood blockbusters. Here's a short amount of characters, a sprinkle of plot and a huge amount of over the top action.

I'm sure part of it is also that those are usually the anime that play on television and are easily available. Though we may see some shift in that regard now that streaming is a lot more of a thing and what's playing on TV matters a lot less.

Shounen are simple and enjoyable anime, but its average quality is quite low

You've got excellent shounen: Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal, JoJo and Mob Psycho

You've got ordinary shounen: Kimetsu, Shingeki, Dragon Ball

You've got appalling shounen: Naruto, Black Clover, Bleach, Nanatsu no Taizai etc etc

If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

I find myself agreeing with those saying that those who are new stick with what is popular (at least for a time). When you go onto, say, HBO for the first time, you are there because you heard of the zeitgeist around Game of Thrones. Maybe you'll discover something like Watchmen that you also enjoy, idk. If you are wondering why things get popular in the first place, the best answer is market research (darkness, depravity, foul language, sex, and violence are all in these days, e.g. Devilman Crybaby, the aforementioned Game of Thrones, any number of other things). What is also important is the platform of release, such as Netflix, Fuji TV's noitaminA and +ultra blocks, and, of course, Shounen Jump.

Personally, I can't stand any of the shows I just mentioned (except Watchmen) which puts me firmly in the minority, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy, or even love, popular stuff, like Psycho-Pass or Gundam. What matters more to me is why I enjoy them. I don't care about anything Shounen Jump has to offer because 95% of it just seems kiddie to me, I haven't enjoyed anything Hiroyuki Imaishi has ever made, and I am finding myself preferring to rewatch things I like rather than test what's new and trending because, more often than not, all research I do points me to the conclusion that I won't like them or will get bored of them.

NEVER settle for something that bores you, regardless of others' opinions. That's my philosophy when it comes to watching stuff.

I think it's because shounen anime are usually:

-Not too dark or too light hearted
-Action
-Well paced

Many people don't have great attention spans when it comes to consuming media. So they generally tend to gravitate towards entertainment that is easier to consume.

Because that's what new fans will see when they first get into anime. Shounen in general also has a lot more cross gender appeal than shoujo, I feel, so it's possibly the widest demographic.

It also helps that most of them are easily accessible. You don't have to do a lot of digging, nor do you need to get yourself into anything weird to watch it.

QFT.

I would find them exciting 5 years earlier , but now I don't find them interesting in any way (battle shounen, specifically). Now I am 21, I find trash anime more entertaining and when my brain wanna watch something serious will set up for it ( I have PTW FMAB, Promised Neverland, Series Experiment Lain(?), stuff like that). I recently tried clover and I kinda pushed myself into it rather than enjoying it(it was interesting the last ~40 episodes and into the first 20-25, but then eh).

Simply popularity.
Many genuinely good story's are short so they end rather quickly and people who are new to anime aren't going to notice them at first.

They will see the big anime that are popular all the time.
I think that is a pretty normal thing
