Kageyama gots more emotional again. Damn.

Karasuno has trouble keeping up with Date Tech High although I can't blame them given how powerful Date Tech is. Glad to see some more of Tsukishima this episode on the field but I hope he can control his emotions better. Hinata got fired up too like usual. The king's crown imaginary scene was pretty cool.

So there's a reason he said so to Nobu's character. He also became observative.

Opponent team banner brought.

Setter guy and megane guy in awkward atmosphere.

Setter guy almost got back when Hosoya-san's character missed it, and main guy doesn't seem to mind. Communication problem.

Making a crown hat out of towel making setter guy more relaxed.

Someone is seriously exaggerating when he say's this series is unwatchable due to the animation.

I thought Kageyama was being a little strange. At the same time I question if he is trying to help. I am also wondering if Karasuno is just doing something new. Date Tech is making major improvement with themselves.

I was surprised by Kageyama's reactions in this episode. He even shouted at Asahi. Though Karasuno was able to get over it.

Date Tech is quickly becoming one of my favourite characters in this series.

Date Tech isn't an easy opponent.

tfw even back in Karasuno, Hinata still isn't playing. I'm just gonna write him off for this cour, it's clearly more focused on his mental development than physical one

but the way Kageyama and Tsuki exchanged glances was like when the 2 smart kids have different answers lol

I loved this episode so much. The scene when Hinata gave Kageyama the "crown" left me speechless. It was amazing.
Also loved the animation when Kageyama yelled at the team. His expression afterwards hurt though.

"go go let's go let's go dateko!" war flashbacks.

can't wait for next week!

Amazing episode.

The animation was great compared to last few weeks so I have no god damn idea what some of you are talking about.
I agree that the artstyle is an undeniable downgrade but for this episode there was some actual motion for the most part.

But holy shit if Haikyuu doesn't have some of the best cast interraction I've ever seen. When Above started and Hinata made that crown I had so many chills. Love this show to death.

Man, this episode was both great and hilarious, I ended up taking a bunch of screenshots again. The animation was sleek too.

Now that we have witnessed Hinata's character development in the first half, it seems like now's the time for Kageyama's character development.

And lastly, Karasuno team has the best character interactions I've ever seen in anime, and this episode proved it once again. Oh, and Asahi is a pure angel.

---

By the way, the commercial break animations this season seriously SUCK. It's always the same animation of baby crow Hinata flying. At least make baby crow animations of other members too for a change, smh. I miss previous seasons' skits.

Probably the strongest episode of the season. It was a little cheesy, yeah, but I still loved the scene where Hinata "crowned" Kageyama with that used towel lol.

The problem with Kageyama most of the time is not WHAT he says but HOW he says it. I feel like the people around him accept him as he is but when he gets too aggressive (like at the start of this ep) there needs to be someone to bring him back down to Earth which is why him and Hinata work so well as a duo; Hinata isn't afraid to tell him he's being a dick haha!

I'm still impressed by the interactions in this series. All the characters seem to know each other so much and get really meaningful dialogues. It can go through stupid jokes or taunts, but it's very authentic.
I would really like most series to imitate Haikyuu!! on this aspect.

Impressive animation when Kageyama yells against his teammates. I don't know who was the key animator, but definitely we have really talented staff. ^_^

I think you guys can't complain about the animations since these are episodes that focus a lot on the growth and development of the characters.
Animations are however at a more than acceptable level.

Really good episode after all.
Just wished to see hinata playing but it's fine since we saw more kageyama's development.

I loved Nishinoya's reaction when he realized what he did wrong, he instantly agreed with Kageyama lmao.

Hinata is truly the backbone of Kageyama, he always got his back no matter right or wrong and he brings out the best out of Kageyama! With Kageyama getting over his "King" mentality and having his teammates support his actions and behaviors, both Kageyama and Karasuno now seem to work pretty smoothly together, they've surely improved their chemistry.

It was nice to see that everyone is trying out new skills especially Tanaka, who most likely was inspired by Bokuto! This episode really reminded me of the Tokyo Training Camp in season 2, where Karasuno seemed like they were in a slump or isn't playing too well but they're actually just practicing their new skills to become even better!

Fantastic episode as always.

Kageyama realizing that to become his best self, he needs to be aware of his teammates but at the same time, not make up for all their shortcomings so they have it easy.

It's nice to see how observant Hinata has become.

The comedy is great as usual, I love how they are able to keep up with the consistent comedy over all these seasons.

This, love the character interactions and everyone on the team feel like friends and people that can understand each other intuitively. They can't always know what the other guy is thinking but on some level they all 'get' it.

Can't wait for more.

Completely agree I don’t know why so many people are complaining especially with this episode it had great animation and I actually prefer this artstyle. I guess people don’t understand that this season is slower than the ones before it. (Which is not a bad thing btw, it just explains the “animation problems”)

Until today I was not sure what I should think about the new season.
To be honest I was kinda disappointed. It wasn't even about the new art style or the animation, but the first episodes felt kinda rushed and emotionless.
I know some people here might disagree about that but to me it just didn't feel like haikyuu anymore.

For example the introduction of the new characters or how Hinata, Kageyama and Tsukishima thought or felt during the training. I don't know normally they give the characters time, we get inner monologues or more communication between the characters. I just didn't feel weird.

But right now I'm super happy, cause this episode did an amazing job in bringing back just all of that.
Kageyama finally facing his problem with communication, that resulted from his experiences in his past. Hinata that observed the situation just right and giving kageyama confidence. Tsuki discover that he can even reach higher goals if he puts in more effort and seen everything together, the communication among the team members, that resulted in amazing character development.
It's was funny, heartwarming ( that smile !!!) and enjoyable to watch, which mad me want more. I hope they continue like that.

For me, the best episode so far.

It isn't unwatchable but there's no denying that the show looks like crap. The new designs are inferior to the old ones and the animation (or should I call it non-animation?) is a joke.

why yamaguchi is so goddamn tall??? he wasnt this tall in the prevous season, right? or am i imagining things... also suga looks horrible in this new art style they picked in new season. not only he doesnt look like himself anymore, it feels like he lost most of his personality? he looks kinda bland :/ i m so dissappointed with the new season

also yeah new animation is turnign into a slide show as the season progresses... sometimes i have to put the player settings to 1.5 speed so the watching is bearable. idk i feel like season 2 and 3 were so much better and much more dynamic? there are still good moments animation-wise but they are pretty rare... i thought my avertion was caused by the new art style and that i would get over it as i get used to it... but idk. the animation quality is really sub par at times, and this wasnt the case before.

i still love haikyuu and will still watch the new season but with every new episode i lean more and more towards the idea of switching to the manga instead to catch up with the story.

I suggest that you go back to see the previous seasons, you are simply exaggerating and creating false memories in your head, the previous seasons had more movement/dynamic but you make it seem as if the current one was at a much lower level than really is,so exaggerating, the previous seasons were not "perfect" like you think, they also had their weakest episodes and their moments of lacks, in fact you are deluding yourself with false memories...

The fact that this many people complain about animation just goes to show how heavily casualized Haikyuu has become over the years. These people have actually no clue what they're talking about.

If you have eye, you can clearly see that there's animation, and it's very dynamic and detailed animation with the character expressions and little character motions. You can see kageyama's slowly wobbling smile after he was crowned king, and the scene where hinata runs up and puts the crown on him had very dynamic, fluid movements that had plenty of frames. The focus on fluidity is perfect for depicting motion in the striking manga art - https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/113140

https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/113141 - the thick lines create intensity for this key moment and perfectly capture kageyama's frustration

Also most manga readers disagree with the designs. Most of us think it's more accurate and they look very cute.

I liked thevariant pacing in this episode. The first half had very quick pacing, but the second slowed down to emphasise the characterisation.

We don't know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths.
As death comes to embrace you, you will realise what you are.
That's what death is, don't you think?

I feel like they baited us with a Kageyama-Nishinoya conflict last episode that kinda turned out to be nothing, but otherwise no complaints! I think there was a new piece of BGM this episode, and the series is at its best when the team is interacting.

I can't really say I liked this episode. I mean, it was okay, but nothing much happened in the episode to get me thinking about it past this very moment...

Kageyama gets annoying again, yells at a senior but gets a pass out of apologizing because they "understand his behavior" (okay, but he still needed to apologize for being a jerk wtf. Just because jerkitude is someone's natural personality doesn't mean they should be given a free "get out of apologizing" card).

Also, there was a lot of trial&error and talking this episode. NOTHING HAPPENED. The end.

Hoping for a better, more exciting episode next week!

Even though the character interactions were a bit testy at times, I feel like that will only help them going forward. Kageyama already seems to be making more of an effort to improve his communication, so that's a good start.

Hot damn Kageyama, shouting at Tanaka and Nishinoya is one thing, but to Asahi is another thing.

Hinata giving Kageyama the crown was super hype! He finally become the one true king!

That aside, Karasuno is finally evolving. All it takes is a bit of fighting and communication. Fighting in a team isn't necessarily a bad things, some things need to be said no matter how harsh it is for the good of the team. Being able to criticize also means trust. Trust that your teammate can accept your criticism and improve their play.
Thing is what Kageyama said wasn't necessarily wrong. He just need to said it better.

Honestly, at this point the only problem I have with the animation (or art style, to be more exact) is that both Hinata and Kageyama stop making rapey faces :/
