Morality aside, how do you feel about sibling incest in fiction?
| So you may know or you may not know that there is a show airing this season which has a mother character who is lewded somewhat. I don't know how much of the lewding takes place in the show (though I saw a pic where the son is like "but you're my mom!") but I'm suddenly seeing the word mommycon a bunch on Twitter. ... What? That's gross. Anyway, it made me think about sibling incest. I don't mind it personally, I think it's just another hot tabboo romance, but I've always thought I'd probably feel differently if I actually had a sister. But now... I mean, everybody has mothers. The idea of lewding a character and celebrating how shes a mom seems reallly weird to me lol. That's just me though, I don't judge others for whatever tabboo fetishes they may have. You do you. Reading these comments it's strange to feel like the uptight one cconsidering how much time I spend defending lolicon and sexual themes in general...] I thought it might be interesting to see if there are a significant amount of people that either don't mind or like sibling incest who have siblings. I have two younger sisters and I never felt any kind of attraction to them, far from it. In fiction on the topic of horizontal incest, I'd say I'm quite neutral to it. If it is done well, I get invested. If not, it's just a meh thing about the show. In both cases, I'm not disgusted by it, nor do I think there's any rational reason for it. One of the possible purposes of art is to explore morality with the safeguard that a controlled environment provides and push social boundaries. Sometimes, art is supposed to make the audience uncomfortable so it can properly convey its message, that's when the common criticism of 'edgy' comes in, I've noticed. People still have a lot of problems with displays of sexuality, more specifically with open and taboo sexuality, after all, so it's to be expected that artists will still try to explore these themes and rub salt on those wounds. @Sphinxter I have the impression this thread might be to your liking. |

| I don't really mind any kind of incest. I have siblings (and I wouldn't want to engage in such activities with them) but I see no problem seeing it from 3rd person perspective in anime. It can be kinda hot in a weird way, so depending on how it's done I can even enjoy that aspect. |

The point is to not think of media as straight-forward wish-fulfilment ("I want exactly what happens in the show I love happens to me in real life", or "I want a show that fulfils something I want to happen to me in real life.") Think of it as a free play of our libidinal possibilities. You don't want zombie apocalypse happen either, but you enjoy watching it anyway. It is quite underrated how often we don't want what we desire, and how often we don't desire what we want. |

| We do get exposed to incest from some other sources such as the Egyptian Pharoahs or the Targaryen's in GoT, so I'm not opposed to incest as part of a genuine storyline (ie royal families trying to keep blood lines pure), but deliberately making romances between family members, when it could be a normal romance would put me off, particularly if it's too in your face. I liked Kiss X Sis, I suppose as it was clear from the start they weren't related by blood, but I found As Long as There's Love, It Doesn't Matter If He Is My Brother, Right? a bit over the top. Yosuga no Sora, one of the best known sibling incest anime I found interesting but also disturbing. I have a little sister who's having her first kid soon and can't understand an incest relationship happening personally. |

| Enjoy it a lot. As I'm rather romance fanatic and plenty of incest Anime have pleasant romance to it. (or doujinshi) I don't get why it's incest is such an issue for people. I have a sister, I know I'm not attracted to her in romantical sense. And if someone happens to naturally fall in love with their siblings.. well that's cute. But in a long run if they end up want making children. They will get "defects" . (I'll ignore the whole social norm and challenges that come with that since people are morons) Only reason I can imagine people are spiteful to incest is simply because they are insecure of their feelings towards any siblings. And out of fear? they force hate/disgust towards incest as escape. Familiar love and romantic love are absolutely separate things. |

| Breakdown as follows: I support and cherish the inclusion of its portrayal in the medium, now and always. I am not interested in it for sexual excitement, but only romantic portrayals that highlight the familial love and bond coupled with the romantic and prioritize this over a purely sexual exhibition. I really don't watch any hentai or even non-animated porn. I'm not morally or ethically against it in any way, but it just doesn't interest me. Thoughtful portrayals of how romantic love could transfigure the pre-existing platonic love between family members though? This is the kani miso on toast and Tokaji of anime to me. Sadly rare. In real life, I support first cousin marriage and/or sexual relations and think the prejudice around it should be dispelled. The genetic fears are bad science since it's no more risky for women 40 and over to give birth, and even without it, they can adopt or remain childless. Plenty of sterile and childless couples aren't similarly stigmatized. As for siblings in real life, it wouldn't be ideal on a large scale, but this is always going to be more rare due to the Westermarck effect of those raised under the same roof or in close proximity from the time of early childhood development will have a natural barrier to developing those feelings. Siblings outside of that effect are extremely rare and are often those separated at birth or raised separately, meeting later in life. It's something destined to be rare, but I can scarcely think of something more beautiful in this world where and when it is allowed to flower. I'm against parent-child incest in real life and don't really care to see it portrayed in fiction. I would watch something portraying it for sure, but wouldn't seek it out. I guess this is just one bridge too far for me, because I think a mother-son and father-daughter relationship should be something completely set apart as the person responsible for bringing another human to the world should always feel the role of a guardian and protector, whereas sex and romance equalizes things too much. Also, there's inherently a hefty age gap. I'm not against age gap in any other case outside of parent-children, but I consider it to be somewhat foul to raise a child and muddle their rearing with romantic/sexual grooming from birth or a young age. I'm not opposed to its depiction, as said, and am open to hear and discuss others' viewpoints, but that's my stance. So yay to first cousins, brothers and sisters. Nay to parents and children. |

| Incest in general makes me feel uncomfortble when I think about it or when it's explored as a theme, but Mother-son incest in particular just repulses me on another level, almost making me feel physically sick even at a glance. Other stuff doesn't bother me in porn where I just focus on the visuals and don't have to think about it too much, but mom incest is one of the biggest boner killers for me. Probably on one level with stuff like scat. Just, eww. It also doesn't help that in hentai/doujins it often comes with another element that kills boners for me: shotas. Oh and also MILFS, which I also find pretty disgusting. It just combines all of the worst fetishes into the ultimate boner-killing cocktail. So yeah, incest in general I don't find appealing, but I'd say I'm generally neutral since it doesn't bother me a huge deal. I think it's supposed to be something uncomfortable and how I feel about it isn't really extreme in either direction (except with mommycon in particular). Mostly I tend to just treat it as ignorable in porn. It makes literally zero difference to me whether the dude fucking the hot girl has some speech bubbles attached where he talks about being her sister or not. That's just cosmetics as far as I'm concerned, I'm just interested in whether the doujin covers some of my fetishes. But mommycon is not ignorable, because as I mentioned it usually comes with two distinct visual tropes/designs, a MILF with balloon tits and a small-dick shota, both of which on their own would probably make me skip a doujin. If you combine them and add incest to the mix, which I'm already not a fan of, it just becomes the ultimate form of eye bleach. I can probably list the amount of fetishes that turn me off more on one hand.
