Damn, that spider youkai really wanted to be released.

This episode really had an ominous feel with the clashes of two powers. Good thing Ashiya finally woke up after being obssessed. That was very tense to watch. Interesting that we find out more about Sakae. This episode gave me the impression of a series' finale although I feel like there may be more content to come in the future.

So it ends...going to miss the show.

Main guy found that youkai unconscious, with black thing on its back, and immediately got by the spider youkai.

Main guy being controlled to release a youkai. In his conscious, he saw his father. Then father controlled him and got spider off. So he's the one who sealed the spider youkai.

Maeno-san's character vs. Ashiya father.

Main guy still trapped and saw young Maeno-san's character. He finally found a way out and father left somehow.

Spider youkai hates human because of him. Moja persuaded her.

After sending them back to that world, he told main guy about father.

So the person main guy met at age of 3 was not real him. Father doing harmful thing to youkai because he hates them somehow. Main guy understands why that youkai who hates humans is acting the way it is.

What?! More requests?

Maeno-san's character decided to keep secret.

I feel lonely to see this season end.

I... really don't know what to think about this episode.
I mean as someone who's reading manga I feel kinda betrayed because they completely changed really crucial moment
It was still nice episode, though quite chaotic in the beginning, but I wonder what will become of the plot from now on.

I'm very confused as to what happened. Abeno said that the person Hanae saw as a child was probably a disguised Aoi, but first of all, why would he need to do that 3 years after Sakae's death and only to disappear with no excuse? And second of all, Sakae also had a flashback with Hanae back then when he was riding Abeno (or it was an allegory of Hanae trying to stop him, but it was still when they supposedly met when Hanae was 3 years old). So it must have been him, not Aoi.

Either way, it was a very confusing finale, especially if Abeno lied or something. Hopefully there will be a season 3, I am interested in seeing the continuation.

As a reader of the manga, I feel disappointed with the ending. I guess since they changed the entire plot there will probably not be a season 3 for this, which is a real let down. With the way the story has turned darker, it might have gathered more fans that would have also picked it up for another season. Yet they went original universe here, entirely changed Sakae's character and Hanae's motives for future developments... As I wrote in my review... they basically did a Blue Exorcist season 1 2nd half on this... And unfortunately I doubt they'll get enough requests for a follow-up to pick this up again with the way they shortchanged existing fans of the manga. I'm really sad.

If they had adapted all manga chapters, remained true to the real plot, they may have needed 3-5 (only 1 more if they left out the other already left out chapters as well but followed the manga plot) more episodes in total, they could have ended it with the chapter where Koura asks "Where should they meet?". That would have been a wonderful cliffhang for a 2nd season end and 3rd season anticipation-trap and we might have gotten another season of maybe 10 episodes in a year and a half. But no... they blew it with that alternate universe stuff. /cries

I don't understand what happened.
It feels like there's a huge gap of story that remains to be explained.

If that means that they're hinting at a season 3, then I am totally fine with it. But if this is it, then I'll be quite disappointed.

I just hope it doesn't take another 3 years before the next Season. lol

Now that I watched this episode I'm seriously afraid that there won't be a 3rd season. I liked the episode but hey changed parts of the original plot that were crucial and some were still not fully explained in the manga.
Guess I'll remain hopeful for now and wait.

As for the chapter in the manga I'd suggest you pick up from 54 if you don't wanna read from chap 1 (chap 54 starts from when they were going to meet Bonta at the shrine)

That explains why Sakae had fangs. Glad that it wasn't a vampire-like youkai.

Ashiya's dad is still alive inside him. Creepy! I wanna know more.

I am kind of sad they didn't announce a third season. 。・゜・(ノД`)・゜・。

so many secrets, and Ashiya being kept in the dark for his own protection...somehow that doesn't bode well IMO. but Abeno wants to protect Ashiya from the three higher ups, but wouldn't that get him in an even bigger trouble if they found out he was keeping that from them?

anyway, can't wait for 3rd season coz this can't end there. there's more to what's going on, and Ashiya's dad a big mystery.

I was looking forward to this episode, but the way they changed the ending was quite a let-down. It’s been a little while since I read it, so I thought maybe I was remembering it wrong... but no, I come here to find other people saying the same thing. I liked the season overall, this episode not so much.

At least I can still enjoy the manga!

Let's be super optimistic, different path than manga doesn't mean no more anime sequel, see Blue Exorcist that we get a sequel that suddenly stay faithful to the manga LOL, though Blue is way more popular than Fukigen.

I agree to most of the messages already here. I also read the manga, and the end of the precious episode had me already questioning how it went. Also the fact that at the beginning of the ep how it's suddenly Ashiya being all hasty and such. Means that they had limited time for the ep so they had to cut certain story parts, which kinda takes the "building up feeling" away.

Next to that, I loved how they used the voices and music. It was still very nerve wrecking to watch. I also got the feeling of: This is possible ending of the anime, but it HAS the open ending of the possibility of it continuing. I'm glad they did a second season, it was definitely worth watching. Especially this kind of genre/kind of way of story making is something I missed (like for example Natsume Yuujinchou)

Omg I cant believe Haruitsuki has to live with this truth now and hide it from Ashiya and then I cried just cause Ashiya thinks his father is nice and such but is ruthless and also that Aoi disguised himself as his father and now he has no clue how he really was. What a sad ending. Like :(

Beautiful continuation.

The first part feels way too shounen, then there was a role mix up in the latter part. I wonder if they somehow got confused on how it should've really went.

Edit: Okay, not it feels like they are just trying to portray that the yokais in this universe are just misunderstood beings and none of them are actually bad.

I guess Yahiko has no hold over Hanae anymore too bad for him. I wonder what will most of all the executive do if he finds out Sakae is possessing Ashiya? He will definitely kill him with no conditions this time.

Such a good season with lots of drama, too bad Hanae didn't get to meet his dad though. This needs a sequel.

7/10.

I genuinely created and account just to express my frustrations here... The whole DBZ style clash was completely horrible, especially with the entitled villain speech to it. And then cramming about a whole subarc on less than 2 minutes to explain that it was Aoi during that christmas party... It was such a letdown from such a good anime that propelled me to even read the manga out of so much enjoyment I had... Ugh... I'd have rathered just to have the cliffhanger we would have gotten had they ended the series like the manga chapter ends to... Well, this.

Also, this is VERY accurate.

Honestly I was extremely let down and it's not only us, I've seen reactions on Twitter about the shortcomings of this episode. The Harry Potter duel shit was absolutely trash and idk why the anime went in the direction to make Sakae look like an evil villian when in the manga he showed up when Hanae thought he killed Abeno tried to save them. Sasa was made into a good guy. Why?? Now the anime had a nice happy ending but how will it move into the next arc where Hanae gets into major trouble with the executive? There is so much char development that could have been added here but now it feels like wasted potential. I wanted to give it a 8 if it followed the manga all the way through but sadly I ended up giving it a 7. IDK if there will be season 3 but chances are lower now... (Sorry you had to create an account just to vent, let's cry together)

GDI I typed like two paragraphs but I clicked cancel !@@##)

Actually the final episode wasn't that bad at all. But my main concern about the main change in this episode is the same as other manga readers...the changes made here will affect what happens next, IF there will be a continuation. Which leads to most of us believing that a season three is high unlikely. I can't really understand the change in what happened with Sasa-san unless they knew they wouldn't be doing a third season.

Well, like others said, they could just retcon the change, or just continue it...without the impact and other problems...that...arises... :/

Still, I really enjoyed this season, and I would love to see more of my favorite characters animated. This season's OST was also such an upgrade!

Man this was a weird one. I liked where this season was heading, especially with the hint concerning Ashiya's 'influence', but damn, this was an uncomfortable one. Sakae is Ashiya's dad, also employee of the last Mononokean, as well as a yokai murderer... but a tokai murderer BEFORE becoming the Mononokean's assistant?
And Aoi is the cat right?? Who was the Mononokean who also found Haruitsuki?
I'm also confused about what the relationship is between Haruitsuki and Sakae? Why do we keep getting references of them looking alike with their golden hair and golden eyes? So strange.

I might get into the manga because it seems like a really interesting story.

I was happy with the better production style and OSTs that seem to have more effort but the story eventually turned bland and weirdly paced at the second half. As a viewer who has read the manga about 3 times i have to say they screwed this anime big time.

Okay...
This episode is altered from the manga. Very very far away from it so manga readers don't worry, you will see different scenes here. I kinda have a sad theory on why it's differ, but I hope it's wrong.
Also, even though this anime has a very light atmosphere with comedies here and there, the ending in here is kinda sad. I don't know about the others but I find this episode is very sad for some reason. I just want to mention that this is a great anime, even though the early episodes of season 1 is kinda boring and cliche, it brings amusement in the end. I really hope we have another season or an OVA at least

I don't know what I'm missing, everyone else here is saying that the way things played out during this episode will lead it in a direction away from the manga. I read the manga after watching this episode. Yeah the manga did it better but nothing actually changed.

Actually, character-wise a lot has changed. Sakae turned from a mysterious character who was displayed as caring into a cold-hearted psycho. Ashiya (even if only done by Sakae through Hanae's body) killed a yokai, which will come to haunt him emotionally later on. With Sasa turning into a repenting, misunderstood being instead of the sinister monster it was in the manga, there also goes that "Not all yokai are good. Some are actually evil and a threat" aspect. So far the manga has not reached that point, but I'd bet that Sakae initially came to hate yokai because an evil one did something to him or his loved ones.In the manga Abeno had to withhold not only the info that Sakae is inside Hanae but also that he killed a yokai.

So the main question that, so far as I gathered, still remains unanswered even in the manga: how are Abeno and Sakae related? I don't believe their similar appearance that's been insistently pointed out quite a few times is just a coincidence.

From episode 12 to 13 the scenes felt very choppy. As a reader of the manga I’ve got to say I’m unimpressed by this ending and this season as a whole.

Also, I didn’t like how they made my lovely Sekae cold blooded and ruthless when in the manga he was protecting his son and Abeno. Stupid spider was innocent in the anime compared to the manga. Worst finale ever!

I highly doubt that they'd do that. I watched the same scene and did not get the impression that it was meant to mean anything other than an inner monologue with changing scenery to save up on animation minutes. And it was never even hinted at in the manga either. So I'd say this is a misconception of the scene. But if you do believe so, you might want to read the manga and then come to your own conclusions and see if your assumption still stands.Maybe you can even find hints in the manga. Who knows. :)

BIGGEST. DISAPPOINTMENT. EVER. I don't understand why did they decide to change the plot so much, especially in that way. As much as I love this manga, this episode was terrible. I mean if you have not read manga this episode would've been much better for you, but if you have read manga it's a whole different story. [minor spoiler ahead?] really love the light-hearted story, but the way the manga became kinda dark at some point made the whole story 10 times better. And I really wanted to see that scene where Ashiya thought that he killed Abeno. Manga was much more emotional....
