It's hard, I listen to a lot of music but it's hard to say if anything is truly worth a 10. I would think the only group that has something that is actual 10 worthy would be someone like Deftones, Guthrie Govan or even Electric Light Orchestra. But really these questions are just all personal interest flexing. |

Out of all the albums I've listened to I'd say only about 8 of them are a personal 10/10. I'll list off a few. Sweet Trip - velocity:design:comfort Insanely creative mix of glitch, IDM, shoegaze and pop. This album to me sounds like you've found the most beautiful piece of music ever made, but it's been digitally corrupted and glitched into something entirely new. The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency and I Excellent indie rock with some post-hardcore vibes. This album captures the anxiety and confusion of youth and early adulthood so accurately that it hurts. Shiina Ringo - Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana Probably one of the most perfect pop albums ever made. This thing is just such a blast every time. It manages to mash-up sounds from rock, swing, jazz, folk, even classical and acapella into it's art-pop sound while still sounding extremely well-crafted and consistent all the way through. |

Some examples would be: Cocteau Twins' The Opaque Tree (collection of songs from EPs and singles) Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking (the coziest folk album of all time) Van Morrison's Astral Weeks (magical album, godlike singer with beautiful arrangements) |

I love DG as much as the next guy but wow it's annoying when their fans comment "sounds like death grips" on anything remotely experimental. Also The Ugly Art is the superior machine girl album imo :P |

What do you think makes it better than the other Machine Girl releases? Personally I thought the sprawling, colorful clusterfucks of ...Because I'm Young and Gemini are a lot more colorful and interesting. It might be because there's less breakbeat and PS2/Dreamcast-era soundscapes. |

It might be because there's less breakbeat and PS2/Dreamcast-era soundscapes. I like Because I'm Young but I've never been able to fully get into it because I find the production to be pretty messy a lot of the time, and it's almost a little too edgy for my tastes to not cringe a little at. imo the production on The Ugly Art sounds miles better than any previous MG album I've listened to and I find the album has much more focused, well structured and varied tracks than Because I'm Young. I'll admit The Ugly Art does drag a little bit too long, and Because I'm Young is somewhat more cohesive start to finish but TUA improves a lot of the issues I had that stopped me from really enjoying Machine Girl's music before. I haven't listened to Gemini yet so I can't say if that's better or worse though. WLFGRL is decent as well but kinda lacks that chaos that makes Machine Girl so fun to listen to. |
