Ya know, doing some researches.

Well, if you wanna know the stereotypes of my country here you go:

Brazil

1.The foreigners think everyone in Brazil likes FootBall(Soccer) (not every brazilian likes Soccer btw)

2.The foreigners think we have carnival the entire year and that everyone knows how to dance "samba", that's such a myth and I hate carnival btw, it sucks, and I don't know how to dance "samba".

3.Almost every foreigner thinks 'Rio de Janeiro' or 'São Paulo' is the capital of Brazil because 'São Paulo is the richest state of Brazil and because 'Rio de Janeiro is the most visited one, but the captal of Brazil is a very small federal district localized in the middle of Brazil named 'Brasilia'.

Update: And most foreigners think brazilians speak spanish like the other South American countries. (we speak portuguese, not spanish >:( )

United Kingdom (Yes, its half past 3 in the morning here. I have no life)

1. We all drink tea - I prefer coffee and, going by tea consumption per capita, the Irish drink more tea than we do.

2. We have bad teeth - No. We have natural teeth. Most British people don't go in for the expensive and unnecessary whitening/straightening that many yanks do. Most of us maintain a level of dental hygiene that's to be expected in any developed country.

3. The country is ruled by the Queen - No. We are a constitutional monarchy where all political authority is ultimately in the hands of elected politicians. Yes, the government and most of the state's institutions are technically operating at 'Her Majesty's Pleasure', but the British monarchy has traditionally (since the restoration in the 17th century at least) been nothing more than a rubber stamp in politics.

4. We either talk like the Queen or a Cockney chimney sweep - Just like how there is more to American English than the vernacular of Texas or California, there is more to British English than the vernacular of London's East End and the Home Counties. I have a bit of Wess Cun'ry in me myself.

5. It's always cold, cloudy and raining - This is probably the stereotype with the most truth to it. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the British Isles are rather wet and overcast a lot of the time since we receive the remnants of hurricanes and other tropical storms carried up from the equator. However, this also means that we are actually quite a bit warmer than most other regions on the same latitude. We rarely get snow in the middle of winter, for example. Our summers can also be quite brutal, just last year we had a rather serious drought and temperature nearing 40 degrees (celsius, of course).

6. Our food is disgusting - Oh really? Try a Scotch Egg, pork pie or a nice slab of Stilton cheese and come back to me. Don't like it? Well, chicken tikka masala is technically British (it was invented in Scotland).

7. We 'keep calm and carry on' - This may have been true in the past, but British people of today have become almost as public with their emotions as the yanks. Bawling their eyes out over the most trivial things. A great shame, in my opinion.

8. We're becoming a Muslim country - A recent stereotype I've seen occasionally on the internet. Aside from a few enclaves in the largest cities, the vast majority of the country (87%) is still overwhelmingly 'White British'. I think there are still more Hindus than Muslims here.

Well, to be fair, Rio de Janeiro used to be the capital of Brazil. Brasilia was built in the 1950s to make the capital more centralised. There are actually similar plans floating around here in the UK to relocate the capital (at least Parliament) to Manchester to reduce the concentration of political power in the south east. Schemes like that are a waste of money if you ask me.

Ah yes, the Brazilian Empire. Brazil would have become one of the great powers by the middle of the 20th century had ol' Pedro not let that tiny coup overthrow him because he literally couldn't be arsed to stop it. That was certainly one of the more bewildering events in history and, as a staunch monarchist, makes me sad.

Brazil could be an empire until today if the political coup of the implantation of "democracy" had not happened, in fact it was a military dictatorship.

1. That we all say "Eh" at the end of our sentences, but that's definitely not true, especially in my area of Canada. The "Eh" and the Bob & Doug McKenzie accent is mostly a Central Canada thing, although it appears to affect parts of Ontario as well. To be fair, people in the prairies usually substitute "Eh" with "Hey," which is also kinda annoying.

2. That that we all drink bagged milk. Maybe in some areas, but you can't buy bagged milk in my area of Canada.

3. That we're all nice. This is definitely not true. There are nice and mean people wherever you go, and there are no more or less here.

4. That we eat a different kind of bacon. There's a type of bacon called "Back Bacon," which is typically referred to outside the country as "Canadian Bacon." While back bacon is sold here, it's not as popular as regular bacon.

5. That we all use maple syrup. I've never tasted maple syrup in my life. I'm not really a fan of maple-flavored things, and real maple syrup is very expensive. It's far more popular as an export than it is here. Most people in Canada just use that plastic bottle of Aunt Jemima syrup like everybody else.

I agree. While the empire was not perfect, it was definitely on the right path and it was certainly miles better than the authoritarian republican regime that replaced it. I was just trying to point out that the fall of the empire itself was so easily avoidable. All the emperor had to do was give the word and they would have put down the coup. Unfortunately, he didn't want to rule anymore and didn't want his daughter (or her 'foreign' son) to succeed him so he let the coup succeed so he could retire to Europe to pursue his interests in science and philosophy.

Dom Pedro II was the best leader Brazil ever had, he readed much books when he was a child so because this he learned 13 languases if I'm not wrong, so he turned out to be a polyglot, and he focused on education, in that time being a teacher was the best job you could get in Brazil, the theachers in that epoch was so valorized, and he abolished slavery, I feel bad that Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery, nowadays teachers are so desvalorised, the socialists have killed Brazil, thank God that the new Brazil's president is not a socialist.

Lol I admit I think of all this when thinking about the UK, especially (is it written with or without the "e" btw? I've never been sure xD) the weather part. "Sunny, warm day" and "UK" are two terms that are incompatible in my mind, I guess thanks mainly to movies, books and literature. I have never seen milk that wasn't bagged. Besides the original metal can. That picture of the plastic bottle in the US makes me feel so uncomfortable.

I think the biggest one is:

1. The rest of Austria is friendly, Vienna is rude and thinks negative ... and bureucracy.

Well, kinda yes. Both. And screw that bureaucracy!

Tho it's often meant as sarcasm and tourists thought they were rude to them. Sometimes people are just rude and down-right unpolite and complain all the time.
But most of the time it's more a misunderstandig and they mistake dry irony for rudeness.
And in general we just don't smile at people with no very good reason to?

But a friend said, after she came back from Japan with their forced smiles, she learned to appreciate the in-your-face-demeanor. Tbh I thought these forced happiness from waiters etc elsewhere more of disturbing than friendly.
In countries like Japan you often can't even say a no without being considered as unfriendly.

Why should waiters be so happy about bringing you food, if they can't eat it themselves or about working in a shop?
But tip anyway, just not so much as in the US.
Sometimes it's a sort of game and they just want you to sass back, because they are bored, especially in bars and some cafes.
And so many staff from the public transport is rude. That's something you expect.

Btw I googled for fun what others think and a guy on reddit even called us tsunderes. 😂 Mission accomplished, I guess?
Being just introverted and sassy, but really sweet, if you get to know some of these people.
People from East and South Europe or Middle Asia said to me they just don't like it, if a stranger isn't open and bubbly to them right from the start or hate small talk with strangers.

And for god's sake, don't you ever enter someone's home with street shoes.

Scotland

We wear skirts all the time - We only wear kilts at weddings, or maybe some other special events. Last time I was at a wedding I wore a kilt but you can wear a suit as well. Kilts are expensive and I now have my own suit so who knows what I will wear next time.

Scottish people are very aggressive. - Most people are nice in Scotland, but you can run in to a few aggressive people. Our country is pretty nice to foreigners, although if you are from England some people may give you a weird looks.

We all have an accent - Most people do have an accent for sure, heck mine is very very strong but I have met many people who sound English but are from here. One of my flat mates is like this. There are a lot of accents in Scotland as well, if you drive an hour one way you will encounter a different accent lol.

We are all heavy drinkers - I mean a few are certainly, but most of my friends are lightweights from what I have saw. I am also a lightweight.

2. Our diet consists of chocolate and cheese:
Swiss meals often have potatoes and cheese in them, but because we are between 4 other countries we also cook their style of meals. Also there are a lot of foreigners here (25%) who also eat meals from their country.

3. We all live in the mountains

4. Everyone and everything here is punctual.

Sad to admit that I honestly know precious little about Chile. The only thing that comes to mind about it is that it's very long and thin, it's where those miners got trapped and they are the only country in South America that regularly backs us up whenever Argentina kicks up a stink over the Falklands.

Interesting topic!

My country is Sweden, oh boy here we go;

STEREOTYPES
1. Most girls are blondes.
2. We love meatballs.
4. Every household have an Ikea furniture.
5. Sweden is beeng overrun by immigrants.
6. Swedes are unemotional/shy, they avoid conflict.

REALITY
1. I would say 70-75%
2. Yes, that is the best food in the world. We also eat it at christmas eve ;)
4. If some Swede don't, I will be surprised.
5. Since Swedens population isn't the biggest, Sweden has welcomed a big percentage (number of immigrants divided by total population) compared to other european countries. This immigrantion have its won pros and cons. If its become generally worse; eeeeeeeeeeee NO COMMENT, (Don't want to debate and receive rasist comments)
6. We absolutely get emotional from time to time, I think a typical Swede is just more relaxed and carefull with expressing emotions in public. Shy? No, extroverts exists in Sweden aswell. If you call me an idiot I might write you an angry note. I'm scared of beeing angry with someone face to face.

Venezuela

We are all lazy at work: In recent years, the Venezuelan has been discouraged to want to continue working / studying due to the complex economic situation in which we are. However, that percentage is small. Most of us continue to do our regular activities for wanting to substise and survive in this misery.

We are all vandals: Since the Venezuelan exodus began, I have read the news from other countries close to ours that crime has increased. It is true that security in our country has been terribly loosened and new generations are talking about acts against the law, and there is a high percentage of the country that are vandals. However, the vast majority of us want to enforce the law, even if the authorities say otherwise and do as they please.

All those who leave the country are "Chavista" or are linked to the government: Most of us leave our home because we no longer support the economic situation and corruption cases in recent years. There are official politicians who went to other countries has continued to go, but these people do not even reach 1% compared to Venezuelans who decide to go abroad to seek a better future with the years of studies that would not serve him being here in Venezuela.

Now I will talk about other stereotypes, outside the current trend:

"Caracas es Caracas, y lo demás es monte y culebra" It is a Venezuelan saying to say that the whole country is not modernized and is very poor, compared to the capital. Since the Dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Giménez, the states of Venezuela (especially those of the Western Region) began to evolve at an industrial, technological and economic level. Unfortunately, with the management of the current government in the last 20 years, this start has been hampered, and by far.

We are all dark-skinned: Venezuela is a multidiverse and multicultural country, with a great diversity of races distributed in the regions of the country. The miscegenation of the Spaniards, blacks and Indians during the colonization was the beginning of this society.

You don't live in Venezuela, right?

That all black people love fried chicken, kool aid and watermelon. That we're all ghetto and ignorant. That most black males leave their kids fatherless. And that we're all armed and dangerous with the attempt to kill law enforcement.

Just to name a few.

There are official politicians who went to other countries has continued to go, but these people do not even reach 1% compared to Venezuelans who decide to go abroad to seek a better future with the years of studies that would not serve him being here in Venezuela.

i'll add some positive stuff to this because venezuelans are usually negatively depicted all around the world:

1) venezuela is full of beautiful women
2) we like to party a lot
3) and venezuela is a country of beautiful landscapes and surprising sights, from the beaches to the mountains

Australia

1. People believe we ride Kangaroos as transport. I find this a stretch, do people really believe that?

2. Desert everywhere. Yeah, a huge portion of Australia is desert, but the vast majority lives on the coast, near beaches and cities.

3. Vegemite. Despite how disgusting you believe it to be, Vegemite is very iconic and probably the most popular spread. I love it, and my username partly originates from it.

That's the main ones I can think of, let me know what you think.

The only thing that comes to mind about it is that it's very long and thin, it's where those miners got trapped and they are the only country in South America that regularly backs us up whenever Argentina kicks up a stink over the Falklands.

I don't blame you really, we don't particularly have anything very characteristic nor we do stand out much towards the rest of the world in anything either xD, it doesn't help that we're also a very low profile country globally.

About Argentina, well, that's maybe just because we really keep a strong rivalry with them, so whoever is enemy of them, is friend of ours lol.
