I think i still could enjoy watching it even though i'm passing 24 this year but it's not as relatable as it's used to. How about you?

I am 27 to 28 this year and I enjoy watching it now more than I ever had. Experience not only gets you used to clichés and tropes, it also helps expand the ways you can enjoy, analyze and relate to anime and this one is no exception.

i still enjoyed it, youth high school life is a beautiful thing to be witness, no matter how unrealistic japan school life depicted in anime, and how much different it is with my country school system.

there are some things that seems relatable though, like supplementary class, school trip, school festival when every class create something, we used to create a short movie and create a mini theater. junior confessing to senior (but tbh i’d never seen one when the girl is the one who confess), verbal/non verbal bullying, and when a student is really close with the teacher, i was once very close with this one female english teacher, so sometimes i can relate, well there’s a ton of thing i can relate, but hey, i can only reminiscing it.

well, im a universities student now, too bad.

if it's comedy in school theme like D-Frag or Sket Dance i have no problem

if it's comedy and friendship shit like little busters and first eps of Rewrite then no problem either

if it's romance with school theme it's a huge turnoff

I pretty much started watching anime set in school after I graduated and I think that I will continue to do so.

School was a segment of my life I really liked and I gladly get nostalgic about it.

But that's not my main motivation, shows like Toradora!,K-On!,Kimi ni Todoke and many more are just fantastic.

Depends.

If it's just cute girls doing X then I'm not interested since I've seen a million of copy cats that do the exact same thing. Being in school in itself is fine, it just depends what you do with it.

I don't consider the place an anime is set in a determining factor in whether or not I'll be able to enjoy it so not really. There's a ton other variables to account for.

It depends. I have a specific taste when it comes to school anime when I get even older cause some of them are getting a bit too boring the more I grew up. But I still really enjoy them~

Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber!
Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route!

i'm 22, and I love it. It's usually my favorite enviroment. It gives me some kind of nostalgia and at the same time I wish that my school life was interesting/good that way.

school anime with romance as main focus - no, but I've never really liked them to be honest
school comedy/slice of life - yeah why not, they're fun when I need some change of pace

(I'm 20+ too)

Turning 22 this year.

Probably? I kind of avoid certain genres within school settings, but overall I don't really mind if it's executed well. Although I prefer manga as the medium is more diverse in setting and stories. You won't find something like Kokou no Hito or REAL in anime.

im 21 and For me personally i just watch it because it allows for more character development some of the time but can get a little repetitive just watching school anime's over and over not saying they are boring but its more nostalgia than anything else but i do like anime's that focus around clubs like in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, Love live series and such

Going to be 34 this year and I still enjoy anime regardless of setting. School anime can be good, Just Because reminded me of exams, graduation, university acceptance tests although it was portrayed in a different way as it is done in my country.

Hischool setting kind of bugs me, for me it was not a happy moment of my life (bullying, too much homework, exams). University was a much more happy place and lots of spare time after courses, sadly out of 150 students in my year, just 7 were female, very hard to make a harem in this case.

If I were to be in an anime piloting mechas or fighting zombies I would like to be in Univ. :)

I'm 23 and I already look back on the high-school days with nostalgia. Everyone went off to do their stuff, my group of friends literally went from thirty to five; Not to mention all my friends I used to know on Xbox Live are long gone for one reason or another, people I would talk to everyday and I felt like I knew so much about. School anime gets me with that charm about it, IT TAKES ME BACK.

Yea OP, and I'm even re-watching it. School anime is always good because I consider myself as a lifelong learner. I was inspired by my 50+ years old art teacher, she wears converse shoes and always treat us like her beloved junior.

If they are good, then yes. Doesn't matter what characters do if they're well written.
I probably regret this post by now.

I've been trying to watch more anime that are set in college recently. I recently finished Genshiken Nidaime. Unfortunately, I can't find a legal way to watch Honey and Clover.

That said, I still watch some high school anime.

It's more nostalgia at this point. So, if there is actually a good story, yes. But, I rarely watch straight up school Animes.

As you get older, do you still enjoy watching school anime?

In a way, yes. Though, it's probably due to the fact that I was simply going through the motions when I was still in Junior High/High School because of...reasons...that I won't go into on here. In other words, watching anime that's set during Junior High/High School is always going to appeal to me because a part of me will always think like a teenager/schoolgirl, so...

I think within the last 6 years nothing has changed for me regarding that genre. The only genre that I seem to enjoy less now would be ecchi.

I never hugely enjoyed school settings in anime anyway. They always seemed like more of an afterthought or "excuse setting" (in analogy to "excuse plot"), at least in the stories I watch.

I've wondered whether getting older myself makes it harder for me to relate to teenaged protagonists. I don't know yet; I don't think I have enough data (i.e. experience) to tell yet.

Actually, i have never enjoyed school anime, it's because i prefer fantasy and magical settings as opposed to everyday real life based scenarios, especially if nothing much happens in them. Depends largely on the anime though, for example, i found Hana Yori Dango and Hyouka a snore fest, but i'm really enjoying Shokugeki no Souma.

As a setting, it's REALLY beating a dead horse at this point to where I may pass on it unless it sounds particularly interesting and isn't a comedy/slice of life.

I'm 35 so I've long since graduated and I personally despised high school here in the US, I can only imagine how much more I would have hated Japan's more uptight version.

Highschool is tough and the highschool life is nothing like you see in anime lol.
I hope you're prepared for all-nighters and more homework.
And yeah, exams and applying to university/college in grade 12 too.

The setting doesn't really bother me. As long as the anime has well written characters it doesn't matter if it's set in school or any other place. I don't really watch those kinds of anime because of how relatable they are or for nostagia reasons either since school in anime is lot different than in real life, at least in my experience.

I mostly don't gravitate towards school anime anymore. I usually prefer to watch things I can relate to at the moment. But it's not like I will always pass up an anime with a school setting. It depends if the characters or story is interesting enough.
