| Honestly anime rarely challenges my brain so why would I need to rest it? What from? The complicated plotlines of battle shounen? The episodic, plotless cuteness of moe slice of life shows? The predictable formulaicness of sports anime? The endlessly repetitive shenanigans of rom-coms? The ever-similar pathways of shoujo romances? The mind-numbing pewpew of mecha battles? Where are all these shows that tire out your brain so it needs rest? I'd like to watch some more of those. Anime is already great for 'resting my brain' 90% of the time tbh. Shows that challenge it are much rarer than shows that allow you to rest it so if anything I'd want more of the former to balance things out a bit. So I have more reasons to actually rest my brain -.- |

I used to have a similar opinion before realizing that "lolicons" aren't going to change, or go away, and it might be better for them to have 2D media to satisfy their interests rather than pursue or support media featuring real people. | Some watchers are able to filter out the ecchi while watching a show, or they just don't care or roll their eyes because it has been overused so far, so for them any fault in the plot is still visible even with an ecchi packaging. Ecchi is a genre, animes with no ecchi will naturally rely on their other themes and story genres. Animes with no ecchi have always existed, still exist and will always exist, it's just the ratio of them which varies over the years. |

Depend on the anime. Ghost in the shell season 1, Major clothes while sexy, made it hard to take her seriously and make the audience question; why no pants? Kill la kill the fan service is great since it add to how crazy and hilarious the anime is. Fan service is no different from comedy or action. Simply having it does not make any anime better, is how it utilized. Examples include: -A female character is talking, but the camera is on her legs. -A high school character is introduced as a modest, completely normal female, but the camera pans over her entire body and focuses on her breasts. -A female character's breasts slip out to show the audience, but no one in the show even notices or comments (because it's not part of the plot). -Characters wear revealing clothing (e.g. Ghost in the Shell, and transform mech anime) for no reason. -Random upskirt shots that doesn't add characterization. Some shows comment on this by breaking the 4th wall and laughing at itself, or if a character is "sexy" and introduced as such, or there's a running gag. Even for those shows, and other shows that don't have a sexy character in the plot, there are sexualized shots that don't contribute to the plot. That is fanservice. Since Kill la Kill comments on those ridiculous uniforms, and it is part of a running gag, it is somewhat justifiable. It is part of the plot. By definition, fanservice is utilized in a way where it's not part of the plot. |
