I don't think of it much most of the times, it wrong or misrepresent of my country I don't hate it per se, it's just the author trying to appeal to more people, or maybe just moking steryotypes either ways, i don't think of them as my country representative or anything like that |

Pretty sure there aren't many Canadians in anime. The only one I can think of is from the game Etrian Odyssey Untold, where the character Raquna comes from a distant country named Ontario, where they have maple syrup ice cream and get drunk a lot. I thought it was pretty cute. Another scenario that comes to mind where the Macross had returned to earth, and only Ontario was willing to take the refugees aboard the vessel so the Macross could return to fight the invading Zentradi. I thought it was hilarious that an anime from the early 80s could nail Canada's doormat personality so well. It was even more hilarious when the shields on the Macross blew up Toronto, the city the refugees were going to be living in, causing the Ontario government to flip their shit and demand they leave Earth at once. In 2017, Toronto is THE place where immigrants tend to flock most. Not really a character, but it really displayed Canada's character well. |

I suppose I feel more connected to them and hope for the best for them. I guess you can call it patriotic pride, although the characters are represented in a way which shows what my country should be like, but in reality England is 60% shithole, and 40% okay-ish countryside and cities. There aren't many good places here. |

And it's written "doitsu". Ah, ok, thank you. Also makes more sense that way. (that's what I get for adopting spelling from [HorribleSubs] :D ) @annmaryjay - there isn't a Finnish character in Girls und Panzer, but a Finnish moment. One of the girls mistakenly appropriates sth. Finnish (a tank, or a battle) to Swedish, and that can't be had, so that team's boss intervenes: Generally, Girls und Panzer imo. does a good job with playing with "nationality" stereotypes, always in good faith, never demeaning - after all, everything is in good sportsgirl-ship. (Italia, USA, Germany, Russia, England ... I was missing the Portuguese.) |

Nothing. I don't like a character because of their nationality and I think it's kind of sad if you're offended by not being represented enough in anime. In fact I didn't even watch Shoukoku no Altair and don't think of watching it anytime soon. |

After that it will be fun to watch and see what kind of character they are, although it may be a bit annoying since they usually aren't really like the typical finnish person. ButadonMeitantei said: I thought half-Japanese characters were there for "foreign but not too foreign" and "they have a reason to be in Japan" reasons.Well... myself being dual nationality (English/Japan) I expected hardly any representatives of people like me, but surprisingly there's quite a few, and most of them for some reason are posh, elitist girls. I see English/Japan tends to be a sign of wealth and/or beauty, with members of the opposite gender flocking to those characters... Ha, I wish. I guess I could relate to characters who are American/Japanese, although the MC of Haganai is not one of them, as the nature of his character is simply because he lives in Japan, and I unfortunately do not. :/ In retrospect, I think the main reason dual national characters in general are unrelatable for me is because they live in Japan. MOB_ABOMINATOR said: There are some, just not many. Off the top of my head I can think of one of the main characters of Sky Girls (who largely only appears late in the series). Though the general stereotype is probably informed more by characters like Street Fighter's Dhalsim, and involves some combination of weird mystical/meditation stuff and spices in food.I'm indian and there are no anime characters who share the same nationality as mine so,I can't answer your question Elegade said: Get someone to adapt "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" or "The Lion King"?I don't know any characters form Mt. They still have an air of relate-ability to Japanese that way. I guess you could say that foreign characters are so few in anime is because they lack relate-ability to the majority / domestic (depending on how you look at it) audience. Most foreigners in anime are English-speaking or Chinese I find, as well, which are the major foreign audiences of anime. |

If we were to include half-Japanese/half-English characters, then there's Kodaka Hasegawa and his sister Kobato Hasegawa from Haganai. The fact that Haganai just happens to be one of my favourite anime (and that I like both of them) makes this pretty cool. Karen Kujou from Kiniro Mosaic is also half-Japanese/half-English and wears a jacket that has the Union Jack on it. |

The only Australians I've seen in anime was a middle-aged couple who housed one of the characters in Free! when he stayed in Australia. He and another of the characters (don't know their names, I don't watch Free!) came back to Oz. The fascinating thing was in the original Japanese version of the show they used Australian voice actors and not just Japanese VAs speaking Engrish, like every other English speaking character in anime. Yet they still used English subtitles >_> Apart from that, I'm not aware of other Australian anime characters. |

I'm brazilian, so, yea... The stereotypes really bugs me sometimes, as I'm not a hottie, I'm white and I don't even like football (unless it's the World Cup, because of reasons). I like my country, and I like to see characters with the same nationality, but even when I love the character, I don't really feel like "OMG I WANNA MARRY THIS CHARACTER MY LIFE IS COMPLETE NOW" just because of the nationality thing. I understand people who don't give a damn about it and why there aren't many foreigners in anime, but, as an otaku and a writer, I think its refreshing to see some characters with different faces and names. I mean, I don't like when nationality is just an accessory, but I don't need to see the character acting stereotyped just to remember me he's/she's foreigner. Heck, this apply to almost any kind of media, tbh. As infamous it can sound for some, I like anime like Yuri on Ice, D.Gray-man and Hetalia because of it (there other reasons too, but w/e). Even Shingeki no Kyojin and FullMetal Alchemist sounds refreshing to me. And about Korea... Wasn't Akatsuki no Yona set in ancient Korea? I don't understand how people can forget it, since it's a popular series with a 24 episodes anime. |

Well, mostly nothing since my nationality is almost never portrayed in anime. I think the only Polish character I've ever seen in anime was Czeslaw Meyer from Baccano. He was cool, though, and I liked him as a character. Hetalia's also bound to have Poland as a character, but I haven't seen it, personally, so I don't know how I feel about that particular case. |
