In Another World With a Smartphone might have been a nice anime, if not for being bland and rushed. I didn't read the LN so i can't say if the story is good and the anime is trash, or if they're both trash.

What anime did you expect to be good, that turned out to be bad due to being bland or rushed?

Erased, the anime could have been a masterpiece if the studio didnt' try to fit all the manga in 12 episodes.
Oh and tokyo ghoul, damn pierrot ruining everything

What? Isekai Smartphone was actually a perfectly fine harem series, what it lacked was actual likable harem members (which I guess does technically fall into the "bland" category...)

The downfall of a harem anime lies in the cuteness of its girls, that was exactly the case of Isekai Smartphone. It fails to grasps that the strength of harems lie in the huge variety of girls to pander to a larger audience, which is why they have 3 tsunderes and 2 blonde lolis (which for a harem is utterly stupid).
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

I could think of so many shows that a bad for being bland, but I feel sorry for a show that's rushed. The first one that comes to mind is Angel Beats. That could've been so good, had it just been given time to breathe.

And yeah, Berserk 2016/17, but that shit's so funny I kind of love it

Ohh well, in my opinion the last EP of Isekai Smartphone is really a give-away. I didn't really mind how bland or probably rushed it is since for me it was trivial if I enjoyed the anime. Well, aside from that I'm still wondering if there's any active fan translation for the LN.

But I cared, because I loved Aki and Mirai x3 - and the art was also a great plus. Uhm... gorgeous art really helps me to get emotionally attached. XD

Chain Chronicles. I liked it + the art & OP, but it should have at least 18-24 episodes. So many parts of their journey were cut out in the middle of the series.

Granblue Fantasy. High enjoyment rate for me, because the world was fun to watch, dragons (just because, wonderfully drawn dragons: +1! XD *) and art style / colors, but the plot and characters felt like "how many high fantasy cliches is the viewer able to endure?"
Tho, they all were okayish and kinda cute enough to keep going and don't mind them. They were just... there. ^^"

Same for Tales of Zestiria. Fantasy world, dragons, journey... great thing, but let's be real, I got the feeling that Sorey was a Gary Stue. ^^" Tho he is a really cute and likeable one lol.
The anime was fun to watch, but it felt always a little bit bland.
I prefer so far Vesperia and Symphonia.

GATE. I liked the premise and Rory was so damn hilarious. XD Tho it kinda wad ruined for me, because there was another self-insert otaku with his harem. I still haven't watched the 2nd season yet.

These Pokemon specials, Generations and The Origins.
The Generations episodes were sooo short.
The Origins was too rushed and the scenes felt like outtakes or a triler video for the games. XD Would it hurt to animate 10 episodes with decent pacing?

The King's Avatar. I enjoyed it, because I like the idea that they are just playing the game for competitive sports and aren't trapped in it. Also the camera drive in the battles etc.. and the battles per se were fun to watch. Tho the protagonist felt so overpowered and that was a huge let-down.

So and before someone maybe wants to chalk up that I complained too much: I scored them all with 7, because of my personal enjoyment and the art & animation (and OSTs - maybe, for some). ^^
Tho, my latest anime-disappointments were Koi to Uso and KADO. I expected ... more.
I also have very conflicting feelings about Digimon Tri, especially after the 3rd part.

* That's real objectivity ... not! XD

That's true. Especially the school-, comedy- and moe part was a little bit meh? I'm used to weird comedy after years and can ignore it though. ^^" And Kyoukai no Kanata should have been longer as well.
Anyways, the movie afterwards gave me even more feels.

I call this emotional fanservice lol. Just give me some sort of drama and there is a chance of 90 % that I will love it. XD
... excluding AnoHana. AnoHana couldn't catch me on an emotional level or any other level at all. ._.

i don't mind it being rushed tbh... although Bland is bad...

What really grinds my gears...are those that change the source...
Akame ga kill is a great example..
they were pretty confident it wouldn't get a second season...so they had to conclude the whole thing in one go

tokyo ghoul is the biggest offender. the constant time skipping was the worst missing out on key events to fit with the time frame of 12 episodes and in the sequel it got even worse with skipping around too much (sigh).

Shobitch is the recent anime i know because i read the Manga.

While the other one was the fucking Tokyo Ghoul thanks to Pierrot messing the animation and pacing.

Also Date a Live.
Probably most of LN if they didn't adapt properly.

You didn't read the Manga and the Thread is about Rushed and Bland animes, not a thread of not being able to understand an anime. The Anime of Ancient Magus Bride has perfectly adapted the story from the manga. Also you're too young for Ancient Magus Bride if you can't understand it yet.

If Isekai wa Smartphone weren't so bland, the show would've been nothing like itself in term of content so...

Gundam Unicorn is probably the epitome of "been there done that" in Gundam so it could've used more for its identity besides the Laplace Box and the finale

Re:Zero might have had its message come out perfectly if the characters (excluding Subaru, Rem, and Ram) weren't so generic and if the final 7 episodes (and episodes 12-17) were completely different given how the final 7 episodes sorta contradicted episode 18 and 12-17 were absolute hogwash.

Gundam F91 would've been fine if not for the brutally detrimental pacing and the circumstances that led to the sheer gutting of intended content. Most anime I see with pacing issues wouldn't have been saved even if the pacing were tightened up, like Blazblue Alter Memory, Isekai wa Smartphone, and Youjo Senki; the pacing just added fuel to the fire.

I don't know about animes ruined because they were bland, but if we talk about animes ruined because they were rushed, Shoukoku no Altair is probably one of the most recent examples. The pace is all over the place, the show introduces important characters so suddenly that it doesn't gives time to the audience to recover from it, nor to care for them. Also, some of the events presented through the series looks very rushed, like if they are cramming things who could last two or three episodes into one. This was not that bad in the first cour, but the second cour has been a mess.
I know Mappa was busy with Kakeguri and Shingeki no Bahamut as well, but, hell, they could had made something better.

The worst part is that the series could have been much better of how the anime is portraying it.

I also have that feeling about Shoukoku no Altair, I think it has the potential to be a very good series (Nice settlement, interesting history, great characters if they were more developed...) but ultimately it fails on achieving that, especially as you mention on the second part of the Anime.

I think the characters (at least the protagonists) are fine, and Mahmut has had a nice development, going from an impulsive kid to a good general and strategist. My main problem with the series is the execution of the plot.

If they wanted to put everything in, the pacing would be way to slow for a TV anime series. Sure they could have added some more important things like the characterization and development of the characters, but thats another matter. Not to mention the staff probably didn't have a choice on the episode count, so they had to work within the limits that they were given. Just goes to show that some stories are better told through novels and mahouka is one of them.

You can criticize the Anime, but the thread was about the comparison of the adaptation to the original, like the anime "Shoukoku no Altair" or even one of the worst adaptation which didn't respect the author, which is "Tokyo Ghoul"

I won't go and preach to "like" something you won't like, but the story itself was filled with good written characters and great narratives, it has perfectly adapted the manga and the English Dubbed made it more sensible. It was pretty clear that the Elias was taking a good care of Chise, the story even showed that Chise could have ended in a worst situation, I don't know why you concluded that it's immoral when in the past there are some slaves which were bought as a way to be rescued. If it's bland to you then it's a creative and colorful story for me.

So many light novel adaptations are made worse than they would otherwise be simply due to the fact that the shows are being rushed. A good example of an anime that proves that rushing can ruin it is Overlord. The first couple of episodes are incredible, the last few are pretty meh. The reason? The first 9 episodes took its time to tell the story. The last 3 episodes rushed the fuck out of volume 3, which was the longest of the 3 volumes adapted (and got the least episodes to it).

As far as bland goes, there are way too many to list or remember.
