| Most likely it's one of the user's favorite character. If they recently changed their avatar and they change pretty frequently, I would guess they recently watched that particular franchise and just happened to be in the mood to want to sport one. |

| I'd assume that anime avatars would be a character that someone's favourite character, or at least a character they liked. I don't know why anyone would put a character they detest as their forum avatar... anyone does it? There's some out there that I think are more there for the funny facial expressions rather than the character themselves, but I'd assume they at least liked the character displayed there as well. I'm not particularly sure what ironic joke could be made out of a forum avatar, aside from an inside joke that probably no one except that person and their friends would get. Any other examples? What do people think of my anime avatar anyways? I just made it a long time ago and never felt the need to change it. After all Tsukiko is permanently best girl. |

| If you change avatars a lot it can be a good indication of mood, maybe your headspace that day/week, where you're at in your depression cycle. If you keep it the same for a while to the point where people recognize your words by the picture and not your username so much then it becomes almost part of your persona in a way. We spend way too much time on the internet. Take me for example my posting style sometimes changes depending on my avatar- I'm almost certain that's gotta be unhealthy somehow. |

| I think some avatars are meant to be smug and perfectly punchable because they believe it gives them an edge when they're lording over people. It adds to their "air of superiority" that infuriates you and tilts you as you make your counter-arguments. Troll tactic 101 or something. I haven't seen those two around AD since a month ago, I think, but every time I see their avatar beside forum posts that just basically saying "casuals are morons responsible for the decline of anime", I imagine war drums summoning me to do battle. It's inconvenient wasting a couple of seconds to calm the drums and scroll past them. |

I got tricked by the MAL finished status when i started it, it had the potential to end in my favorites and i got disappointed when i saw it was still ongoing. That's why i usually avoid ongoing manga, you will never know if it will be finished ot not. |
