That they sometimes try to fix their shet?

(tl;dw
Bluray sometimes looks better than TV aired)

It does somewhat explain why currently airing shows seem to look sooo much worse than just slightly older anime... (to me at least) Aanyways, I'm not sure if I should try rewatching some bluray versions of poorly animated TV aired anime, or whether MAL needs a different rating entry for bluray versions (on top of dubs, which are obviously needed, and completely different, often even without considering voice acting. Already made a thread about this though (https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1560681)
). Also, if I saw that sort of TV art for ore twintail ni narimasu, I'd probably have given it a 1.

That said, nothing can make Berserk and Dragon Ball Super not-shit. Probably.

Apparently everyone was in on this, and they still watch airing crap on illegal sites? Real? Wat?

You didn't know? Lol.

I still rarely wait for BDs when a seasonals has caught my interest. I did end up watching the first ~10 DB Super episodes in their BD version because I heard how terrible the episodes looked on TV. I do not regret that decision.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well, I knew they changed things, but I didn't know they tried to make things better
Indeed, the evolution of fencing (And fancier fences doesn't mean it's better):

Anyways, I watch the vast majority of anime on BD (if available). I only watch the TV versions of anime that mediocre, and I'll probably never look back at.

It's one of the reasons why I sometimes put seasonal shows on hold.

3DCG will make animation quality more consistent, if 3DCG looks awesome it will be awesome in all episodes but if 3DCG looks shit then all episodes will look shit too

plus 3DCG can make production cost less since it will not make a lot of redo like 2D anime being redone to look good in BD/DVD

TOEI is a champion at this, its Sailor Moon and St Seiya ONA series often looked weird during their broadcast on the Internet, not only during stills (who are supposedly the easiest pictures) but also during animated moments.
(the best part is France got the original non-corrected version of SS SoG as retail release XD Well, later the publisher did sell the "better" one)

MortalMelancholy said:

That said, nothing can make Dragon Ball Super not look bad.

Especially the beginning who looks worse than some later ugly scenes. No matter what, it will always be compared with the incomparable (the original theatrical versions).

Also, the Madoka screenshots are a bad example: they didn't raise the animation quality there, only the "drawings" quality/details.

Do note that not everyone bothered redrawning frames in the past.

Yeah, I never knew that redrawing frames for BDs was thing at all. The Madoka screenshots are the extent of what I would normally expect a bluray version to change lol.

Not only change in quality. Most of the time BD have more added footage to some episodes.

Do you not put shows on hold?

It usually happens to action and ecchi, so if there's tons of off model animation in them, odds are some of them will be fixed. Good quality animation though is relatively the same in bd vs tv version, which is why when I'm bothered by the off model, I just wait for the bd.

Well, if "indefinitely on hold" counts... I've dropped the vast majority of TV anime that I've tried to watch lmao.

Most of the changes are art changes though.
I heard that Shinsekai yori also got a good art update.

Let's hope that the jjba 4 bluray will have that to.

They can add as many fences as they want but I am not raising Madoka's score nor change my general opinion of the show just for that.

Still hurts the TV broadcast version (aka the one seasonal viewers see).

Sailor Moon Crystal on Hulu is the blu ray fixed version but it still has a lot of janky animation in it because Toei is still trying to get away with bare minimum these days. That feels insulting when they wait til later with blu rays to fix it.

I do like it when things like My Hero Academia get animation fixes because it was good animation from the start being made to look better. This is blu ray stuff done right.

im sorry but the exxtra fence completely changes that scene, which was the start point for the whole plot, wildly changing other instances of fence symbolism present across the show
you have to watch all versions one after another to get the full intended experience of madoka magica

While the last fences add a much darker atmosphere, this improved experience is counter-balanced by the failed fence's shadow on the left side which makes the show completely unwatchable and unbelievable. I might lower the score by 1 thanks to this fence fix.

This is pretty common knowledge but I guess even common things escape a certain percentage.

First time it was jarring for me was after watching Bakemonogatari as it aired. Shaft dropped the ball pretty heavily throughout but the Nadeko Snake arc was in shambles by I guess them getting behind schedule. But they did a great job fixing it for the dvd/blu ray. Here is a few examples of the updated scenes.

This is also the reason that ecchi dvd/blu ray can sell so well even gore. Because the censors are dropped and they add in more sexy/gorey details.
Yet those fixes don't matter anyway, it sucked before and still sucks after so I don't see any improvement.
