The problem isn't necessarily with how Ernesti was able to do what he did. He is technically ~40 at this point if we combine his previous life with his current age, so learning how to operate the machine seems unproblematic given the apparent similarities between magic in this world and programming. The fact that he can operate the machine better than others also seems explicable given how he's using an entirely new method of operation that's less mechanical and more neurological.

What is problematic is that he inexplicably acts like Earnesti's age. Yes, we get that he's a robot-con and that he wants to operate a silhoutte knight. But to go fight a monster of that size and caliber as his first time made no sense at all. He's smart enough to know that it isn't his responsibility, and not having been trained there’s pretty much no way he could’ve known how the battle would've played out. As he said at the end, it was lucky that he did it. But is Ernesti's personality really that he’d risk his life for something as trivial as being able to ride a silhouette knight then and there? Again, he's a robot-con, but that isn't the same as being an impulsive idiot, which was basically a synopsis of this episode absent his enormous MC plot shield.

Problem is this is the same with ep. 1 in terms of a Gary Stu setup. Everyone around him is drastically inferior in either intellect or ability, and of course the king is going to act like an idiot by trying to keep a lid on his genius. All of this screams of a self-insertion fantasy. Rather unfortunate really since this is a common flaw that series like this suffer from.

I thought the CGI was very well done. Also as an anime-only watcher I didn't have any issues with how this episode or the last was paced

I think how they balance Ernesti's OP-ness is by the fact he still has to follow this world's laws and regulations in a sense.

He's still a kid.
He is child of a powerful person.
He's not a Knight yet.
He knows it.

So though he has the skills and such he has to follow how things work or else he knows shit will go wrong for him. It's nice that it's like that actually since not only does he know it because he's an adult but also since he worked in a big company so he knows that chain of command and such are important.

I find it similar to Regular at Magic High where though the OP is incredibly powerful he knows that he can't just throw around his power else the higher powers will deal with him.

=====

Read the manga to the current point and there really isn't that much content honestly...now that he's defeated the Behemoth and the King is showing interest that's maybe one episode worth after this?

I do like that they are being relatively faithful to the content but they are shortening it quite a bit which is surprising as stated before there isn't much material yet.

I love the mech design in light novel and they did a great job in anime.

Lol Gephardt got really roasted, he and Dietrich were just too cocky.

Liked the CGI animation in this episode, fighting scenes against Behemoth looked good.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

as LN reader bit sad they left out few things, but otherwise good adaptation.
as for all who think it was easy fight, in LN this is quite long fight where he is harassing monster for long time and only useful damage beside destruction of eye at start was his repetitive attack on monsters leg joints. he was more or less annoying fly to monster.
and first real damage was from those big rams.

few things about ending of this fight will probably be said in next ep since is important plot point.

The episode ends with the end of Volume 1 in the LN. So read from the prologue in volume 2.

^^ Does that mean they intend to cover each volume in 2 episodes? That is rather rushed if you ask me. I guess it's unavoidable when it comes to action adaptations. I can only compare this series to Overlord atm.

Interesting episode

The name Behemoth really is a apt term for this beast i think. The knights first attempt to hold the beast was brave and valiant but the chances of victory was just too slim sadly. To think that the beast attack was just a precursor to Behemoth which is on a direct path to the forest where the cast is. Its funny seeing Ernie get fought over by two girls though. Im surprised that the number of knights in the order are so few though. Seeing the overconfident knight transform into a coward after losing his friend was surprising though.

To think that Ernie was able to reprogram the knights OS though his innovation skills truly are impressive. So instead of physical controls he reprogrammed it so that he can control it with his gunrod eh. Its impressive how Erne was able to get a feel for how the knight moves so quickly. As childhood friends Addy knows Erne's personality pretty well so its not surprising that the thought that Erne might have stole a knight to attack the beast would have crossed her mind. Hmm Ernie looks like he was having a lot of fun fighting the behemoth though. Hmm the coward knight regaining consciousness right there though lol. Well reinforcements from the order finally arrived on time at least. Using bunker busters to crack open the Armour eh. Still each of Erne's strikes are hurting that thing immensely and its really seeing a sight seeing him use the knight so well though. Wow that last deciding battle in the end though truly an impressive win. Ridding the pesky enchantment magic before going for the kill eh. Smart tactic. That was one hell of a gamble for Erne though. Looks like Erne's skill though has brought him to the attention of the rulers of the nation though. Love the ending theme as well. Ayaka Ohashi is both a capable seiyuu and singer as well.

Nice action this episode. I hope this show keeps it's cheerful attitude till the end, it's entertaining at least that way no matter how generic it is.

And I hope to see more cool architectural design like these:

Alright the first episode was pretty good, but this second one really kicked the show into action. So far the plot is very generic and somewhat predictable, but I don't mind; sometimes simple is best. Only time will tell whether or not the series will turn out well or poor, but so far, I'm enjoying the ride.

I would like to see this series be 2-cour or have a second season so that it doesn't feel rushed, but odds are it won't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I already had mix feelings when the manga wasn't able to capture the same feeling from the LN, so I am not surprise that the anime was a bit of a disappointment. The series is very rush, which is honestly not surprising for new anime, but it's rush to the point where I felt that they even made the battle scene look boring and anti-climax.

Fucking hell this kid is like quality shota yaoi bait material.

The behemoth's cg was awful and for some reason the mechs look worse than they previously did. At least with him having so much fun piloting it it kept me distracted for a bit.

Ignored this show because the title and premise sounds retarded. And it is. But Ernesti's a lot of fun to watch. Shared enthusiasm helps. Would have preferred him as a girl though. Not feeling the mech designs either but they're fine.

If it wasn't for :

- Generic MC but enthusiastiac as shit and actually being smart

- Well done CG mechs

- Better pacing in the 2nd episode( with a good battle )

I probably would have drop it, but I'm kinda enjoying it, so I'll stick around :)

Oh, love triangle is growing.

You deserted....so can I commandeer your kick ass robot!?

Reprograms the OS. This is like a fantasy version of the first episode of Gundam SEED. So joyful that he can finally pilot a robot.

Ernesti's enthusiasm and dedication is so entertaining:

lol @ Edgar mourning at the end.

Despite it's premise and eccentric lead the show does go down pretty easy. It hasn't spent much time faffing as other shows up to this point and keeps pretty good pace as far as action goes. I'm also pleased they've seemed to skill the whole "honor duel" as with many LN fantasy, magical school themed shows. The music isn't anything pecial but it gets the job done. Character design is mostly basic but that is fine seeing how many animes make the most unusable (read: excessive) character designs and end up being shit anyhow. They don't stand as blocky like one other shows. I like the touch with the throne being a built-in mecha (though I'm sure it has been done in some way or another it did get my attention). The monster design, particularly the behemoth wasn't too bad at all, at this point we'd some very cheap or poorly animated creature flailing around.

I don't, however, see much reason why Ernie would need to be the reincarnation of a Japanese Otaku other than to legitimize his quirky infatuation with all things mecha but it does better justify him bringing something new to his world as well as the drive to express that. So I guess that is a plus considering the lame-ass excesses for why the MC is "the best there is" or the "weakest undefeated" or some oxymoron shit we've heard in recent years. He can live right now. On a final note he has temped my faint homoerotic tendencies towards hentai, perhaps the boorus will see more of him.

Pretty cool battle. Ernesti kicked ass, despite already being overpowered. The pace slowed way down, which is a good sign.

Well, at least all the girls are hot. Especially the short haired older one.

I just wish Ernesti was a little fem-boy. It's kind of off putting.

The King is no fool.

Ernesti has already totally disrupted the balance of power, and it has to be determined if he will be an asset or a threat in the long run; if the latter, it will already be difficult to deal with him as is, if he has any warning at all.

We, of course, know that Ernesti has no desire to disrupt the structure of society... at least, no more than is necessary to create the things he wants to play with, and to protect his friends and those others he cares about.

If you take that into account, he should be relatively easy to guide into a role that can be accepted within this culture.
Maybe.
It depends upon just how calcified the structure has become; it does show some signs of still having sufficient flexibility, as he was able to convince them to advance him academically.
If they can work with him, they're looking at an incredible advance in their tech in a short period of time.

ETA: Just glanced back at the other comments.
Yes, if you are looking for a cute shota, it doesn't matter which way you swing, Ernesti is gonna push _all_ of your buttons.
So I found all of those comments quite amusing.

Uh, author? That's not how programming works. We are not hackers.
Action was fine this episode, even though it was 200% predictable and overflowed shounen tropes all over. So far this is looking like late 2000s isekai.

Who would win: an entire team of trained, elite, robot fighters with 10+ years of experience each, or a 12 year old C++ wiz.

What's the point of giant robots if "Hello World" here can blast down the strongest monster of all with some magic.

Damn, that was a good move by Ernie. Also, I wonder what the King's reactions would be to find out how Ernie pilots the Silhouette knights.

A question: HOW THE HEY ARE THERE MECHAS IN THIS WORLD? It seems to be set in the medieval era, but there are literal post-modern technology. How unfitting. Probably a reincarnated person introduced those things huh?

That capital sure looked amazingly big!

Also, Ernie looks so kawaii!
