as the title say, heck some "seasoned" anime watchers or people who watch anime for years also seem to avoid mechas for whatever reason. any idea why? (if you hate mechas, do speak in this thread as well, maybe i'll actually learn something useful.) |

It's good that Slop leveling won the CR awards with such a power gap, Gaijin Weebs don't deserve good anime. Not after what they did to frieren, kusuriya, and many others |

Using mechas for combat seems dumb to me. Never made sense logically. Also visually unappealing. I know there's more to mecha than just spamming laser beams but I can't be asked to sit through all the other stuff that comes along with it. |

I find that mech suits and long battle sequences go hand in hand. I personally do not like long battle sequences thus I avoid the mecha genre. I'd also like to point out that I'm not firm in this belief. If someone I trusted (has recommended good shows before or shares similar tastes as me) strongly recommended a mecha then I'd watch it, but honestly, I've never seen mecha on anyone's top 10. At least not in the recently years (past maybe 10 seasons?) |

a lot of mecha animes are boring, comparatively. i do watch a lot of boring shows in general, just by accident, but giant robots are a decent indicator that a show won't be interesting. exceptions (all already mentioned lol): code geass, ttgl, nge (if nge even counts as a mecha tbh). definitely get the impression that gundam would also be interesting but i'm a start of franchise type person as well, so i'll probably never watch it. |

Why would casuals be interested in war drama, more complex plots, political and ethical topics? They are boring. Having seen the first Gundam and first season of IBO I do see why people would think they are boring, they are too dragged out/slow and some even useless episodes. However as you might see from my PTW I am going to watch 08th MS team and war in the pocket soon... maybe... and they seem to have a very good reputation. Casuals prefer more "mature" stuff like Steins;Gate, SAO, Attack on Titan, Code Geass, Madoka Magica, Re:Zero, Gurrenn Lagann and Yuri on Ice. |

I don't really care for machine-heavy shows, including anime. I don't like stuff that involve guns, robots and giant machines because they are boring to me. I prefer swords, magic, hand-to-combat or political negotiations. |

Because a lot of them think that mecha shows are -just- about giant robots fighting, which is not the case a lot of the time. If the person thinks that and doesn't really enjoy the idea of robots fighting, the person will avoid said shows. It's similar to people who avoid watching sports anime at first if they don't like sports. They think the focus of the anime is the sport itself and nothing more. I say this as a person who started out avoiding Mecha/Sports stuff but now I just don't care anymore due to RahXephon and Eyeshield 21 breaking said barriers. |

Lol well, that is basically what snk season 2 is all about, we will see how it turns out coming this April. Since a lot of manga readers has put a doomsday timer on snk season 2, saying once it airs snk will lose most of its popularity. I also lik how people act like casuals can't enjoy series with those themes. Game of thrones says hello. And wasn't code geass about war drama, political themes and ethical topics? Now whether you think it did a good job is another story. But I'm sure code geass was very political. So your statement falls flat on its face. |

Mecha tends to come with a lot of baggage that can put people off: 1. age 2. franchise continuity 3. length 4. fanservice (ecchi/robot) 5. story tropes / formulaic (episodic enemy-of-week, combine, sudden superpowers, etc.) 6. mecha action whether 'casual' or 'seasoned' anime viewers are more inclined towards mecha, I'm not so sure holds true. |

Yes it was but that statement goes in context with the second one about maturity. Would you say politics in Code Geass are dealt with in a mature way? I haven't read or watched GoT but I hear it is edgy and not that mature but those are just stuff I've read/heard from other people. However I am inclining to believe it sine my friend who is a big fan of SAO, Fairy Tail, Tokyo Ghoul and Elfen Lied likes it. I would say that maturity is not his forte. Combining this two sources my conclusion is that GoT has plenty of flavour (shock factor, edgy stuff, <insert another buzzword here>) to cover or compensate for the politics and other "boring" stuff. |

I guess i fall into the category of seasoned watcher who doesnt watch mecha anymore... and i cant really explain it i used to watch mecha. Gundam Wing was one of the first anime ive watched and Gurren Lagann is even in my top 5, but I just can't anymore. I think I'm just tired of them. They're largely convoluted political dramas, NGE wannabes (and i dont really like NGE), or just subpar shonen shows with mechs taped on to it. |

I don't hate mechas, I'll watch one occasionally and I actually have seen about half a dozen or so, but there's something about them that is almost instantly unappealing to me. It doesn't make a lot of sense to see robots fight it out with human pilots when you could imagine societies with that kind of technology would just build AIs and drones. And if you want to see characters fight with swords and other medieval weapons, a regular fantasy anime would probably do better, instead of watching a robot bring a sword or a spear to a gun fight. Anyways, I don't hate them, they're just not my first or second or may be even third or fourth picks for a show on any given season. |
