| Guilty Crown and Re:Zero. The former because the writing is lower than the inner core of the Earth, the MC is the unsympathetic version of the "Sit in the corner" protagonist, and the cringiness was at extreme levels throughout the 10 episodes I lasted. As for the latter, while the MC does develop as time goes on, Subaru for the first eight episodes was so cringeworthy and unlikeable, I just couldn't care at all for him by the time suffering rolls around. Not to mention that the entire series was built around a fixed set of "checkpoints" that the viewer must follow, or else they will feel offended, and hate the show as a result. The transition between episodes 9-11 and 12-13 was a perfect example of this, but I won't elaborate due to spoilers. |

It's also the same issue I had with Voices of a Distant Star, another Shinkai work. I don't like his storytelling methods. I instead prefer that stories wrap up their loose ends, otherwise it's unsatisfying and makes the author look indecisive or lazy. |
