lukidrag26 said: I have a question, whether mitsuha and taki have a same age? There are many theories that discuss the timeline difference and such. The most rational one in my opinion is the one that suggests that they are not the same age. In Taki's original timeline, Mitsuha is already dead, and her death is the result of the disaster that happened 3 years ago. We can clearly see that Taki is a high school boy in his original timeline. However, Mitsuha is also in high school in her original timeline (which is 3 years before Taki's), and that implies that 3 years after Mitsuha, the high school girl, had died, Taki found out about her death while being in high school, which in turn emphasizes the idea of Mitsuha being 3 years older than him. Another thing that supports this theory happens to be when Mitsuha went to Tokyo in her original timeline to meet Taki, but he didn't recognize her (because that was his version from the past that is Mitsuha's original timeline as well). So he was supposedly younger than her there. There was only one moment where they met and were the same age at the same time, which was later on the mountain. It started when Taki woke up inside Mitsuha's body (which is already a high school girl's body) the day she was supposed to die in, and then Mitsuha woke up inside Taki's body that was lying near the mountain at the same time, and his body was naturally that of a high school boy (because that body was originally Taki's who has come searching for Itomori from the future). Of course that mysterious paradox that happened there was probably the creation of the complex entanglement of the Musubi's and Sake's influence, which I believe was the idea the director originally wanted to convey. |

BEST. MOVIE. EVER. I literally cried from the mountain scene when Taki and Mitsuha met, up until the very end. The whole film was one big emotional rollercoaster. The end in my opinion was perfect. Unlike the ending of 5 cm per second, which left a bitter taste in my mouth, this time the MC finally decided to show courage an speak out. (my God I was going to lose my shit if he just left her there, saying nothing :D) Needless to say that the OST was absolutely astonishing! I give it a score 100/10! :D I interprete the ending a a good one beacause in my opinion Taki showed the courage to turn back and speak to Mitsuha. They both shared the same feelings - the search for someone they had forgotten about, but loved and I think that when they start talking to each other and sharing their memories, they will most probably remember about the relationship and events that they shared. So I'm happy with the ending, couldn't have been better after all the turnarounds in the film! |

This is one of the best movies i've ever seen n my life, if not the best. For me saying that, there's a lot to be said. There were notable continuity problems and scientific fallacies, which normally would bother me, but this work was such a touching story, that i don't even care. ----- It's unfortunate that the premise of the story was all misapplied. The first problem was the time stuff. Besides the fact that you can't violate continuum with time travel, let alone change history, i usually let that slide as it's always a very interesting tool to use in fiction. In story context there was a lot of staggered back and forthing, and there was also ambiguous transition points where it went from all died to all survived to them being out of sync to them syncing (outside of the underworld area). Lots of perfectly timed things to yank on your heart strings as you go along too. The flaw in the premise is the comet. Setting aside improbabilities of the comet fragment path hitting where it did - fiction is allowed to override probability. However, the comet piece, in the movie, fell through the clouds, very much not bright mind you, and hit the ground like an orbital cannon or something. Nothing natural that enters the atmosphere does this. A meteor or comet piece does not ever hit the ground still intact. They either burn up just below the ionosphere due to energy input from proximity to the planet overthrowing it's capacitance, resulting in sublimation to plasma. The alternative is that it detonates in mid-air because the input charge exceeded the rate of inductive discharge, and destabilizes the structure of the meteor, causing it to explode (and only the fragments make it to the ground). While the plasma sublimation is happening, it's no mere flame. Look up the Chelyabinsk meteor. There are many other accounts across history of these events, and they are blindingly bright and blow up in mid-air. When i say detonate or blow up, i mean nuclear scale explosion. You could get a single projectile to reach the surface intact, but it would need to be intentionally insulated; meteors are not. (At least they didn't say the comet was ice, because it's obviously not: see data on 'deep impact' and 'rosetta'.) ----- Ps: neither of them were able to read dates apparently, or recognize an unusual date even . . . . . . . . . All of that said, it is still an emotional masterpiece. |

I can say this show is even not as good as Laputa, which I give 9, or Kiki delivery service, which I rate high 8, for in the same category: a movie. |

Besides, the difference between 9.4 and 8 are hundreds and hundred of movies. If Kimi no nawa's true score was an 8 it's get thrown all the way back to the 500's bar. |

pacuuuuu3 said: It was good but the love between Taki and Mitsuha seemed a little forced to me. Still a beautiful movie, while not the best plot. Ya I also felt the plot was confusing with all the time travel going on toward the mid-end part. The story was very love anime cliche. They fall in love for no real reason but never say it to each other. I feel like the people who are giving it 9's and 10s have probably seen it in theater because the screening version is only 720p and doesn't do the cinematography/direction/artwork justice. I gave it a 8 rating despite the quality of my version being pretty shit. Maybe if I saw it in Bluray 1080p I might see how good the art is and increase the rating but 8 seems reasonable. Shinka Makoto's movies all have similar plots about forgotten/lost love but this one was a bit more interesting because of the body switching part at the start. Atleast he didn't make the ending super sad like he usually does. I would have liked them to say each others names at least but he didn't give us that lol. |

My favorite movie so far. Never had so many feelings watching a movie, I smilied, cried, laughed and was at edge of my seat the whole time. The visuals are gorgeous even in 360p, lol. The ending was heartwarming and I'm really glad it is a happy ending, I probably would punch my monitor if it was a sad one. Tbh, I probably would watch an entire slife-of-life series just for see those two screwing everything with that body swap. Need some extra scenes with blu ray release. ): 10/10. |

Unfortunately I was scratching my head throughout the second half wondering why the hell they would forget each other so many times throughout the movie that these moments just felt like plot contrivances in order to generate drama and the sad feels. Totally took me out of the immersion the film had me in the first half with the great comedy and character interactions. And the whole "did you even get the theme" argument, if you can even call it one, someone please explain how it's relevant and how the execution is any different from other shows that try to "defy destiny"? If it weren't for the visuals I'd have scored it lower, but I'm going to give it a 6/10. This movie wasn't for me. |

Absolutely stunning, amazing... in a way it picks up where Byosoku 5cm did not... the ED of that movie is echoed in lines and the OST of this one. In Byosoku 5cm they did not get their One More Chance, One More Time... but in this incredible film, they did and I'm so happy that they did. Most of Shinkai's movies end up unrequited other than Promises perhaps so I'm glad this one took it that extra step. Can't wait to read Another Side: Earthbound to see if there is more. A perfect 10/10 or 1000/10 or 1000000/10. I may need to downgrade most of the other items on my list. The animation, the music, the voice acting, the story... At this moment in my life I can't say I've ever seen anything better. I need to think and reflect for a while because I may just be biased since I just saw it but... OMG.... I really can't think of any film animated or otherwise, Japanese or Hollywood or otherwise that has affected me more. I may come back and change that but the feeling right now is that it's the best film I've ever seen. Tears of sadness and joy, hope, it was literally a rollercoaster of emotions, I was literally gasping at points, holding my breath. Yes, yes, please, please... yes, he did, he finally did. This deserves all the money it's raked in and all the accolades it has received and will receive. Anyone who says this is worse than something like the shows rated higher than it here on MAL... well, they obviously haven't seen this movie is all I can say. I truly thought my heart might burst while watching this. I only prayed I would live at least until the end of it. Incredible. |

Sure, but in Steins;Gate at least they attempt to explain the phenomenon via the different worldlines you mentioned here. However, the explanation the show uses for the events that happen and for purposes of the show is fictional. Using another fictional work to explain a phenomenon in a different series doesn't hold up, especially since Kimi no na Wa makes no mention of the alternate timelines at all. It'd be like a viewer explaining why in the last episode of Charlotte where Yuu's brother somehow conveniently finds Yuu in time makes sense is because of that one thing in Bleach where people actually have spiritual energy and you can find people based off of their traces, even though Charlotte never mentioned anything about spirits or what not. Maybe irrelevant, but I think if Steins;Gate didn't exist you probably wouldn't have been able to come up with that conclusion on your own unless you were really interested in quantum mechanics and looked up the many-worlds theory. |

That was just an example. It's kind of hard to explain since it's been nearly 4 months since I last saw the film, but it has something to do with fate/destiny separating them/erasing their existence from each other and them overcoming the causality of the universe to be together. If you want something like a neat scientific explanation, you won't get one because that has never really been the intent of the filmmaker, who was mostly interested in telling a story that explores the meaning of an abstract Shinto concept/Japanese phrase. Maybe irrelevant, but I think if Steins;Gate didn't exist you probably wouldn't have been able to come up with that conclusion on your own unless you were really interested in quantum mechanics and looked up the many-worlds theory. I've read a bit about that already, so maybe I would have, but going back to the original film I felt that fate/destiny were working against Taki and Mitsuha was self-evident when I watched it. |

Yeah I figured science wasn't what Shinkai was going for at all, but it felt like fate/destiny just acted whenever it was convenient for the plot rather than it just happening organically which was my biggest problem for the film. The drama that resulted from fate's actions seemed forced as a result, so when the leads were able to meet again it seemed more that fate/destiny didn't care anymore rather than the two managing to overcome fate themselves. |

The movie was just a great time to watch, it made me laugh, made me cry, made me think, made me feel sympathy...... and above all else it made me satisfied. I could not ask for anything else, maybe a little bit of it, and a little more. It deserves every praise it could get, every money. The plot and the characters may be its weakpoint , but hey if we focus too much on scoring whats wrong and whats right, we would miss the opportunity of just "enjoying every part of it". I dont care if others score it 7 , 8 , 9 or 10. Will it go top 10 or not. Its just a great experience overall, and just shows the effort the creators put through. |

Absolutely unbelievable. I went into this thinking "well it's probably good (it's Matoko Shinkai after all) but also over-hyped and disappointing" but boy was I wrong. I actually think this might be on my top 5 favorite anime movies of all time now (even top 3), I liked it even better than last year's When Marnie was There (which I absolutely loved) and even over some ghibli films... This is without a doubt Matoko Shinkai's magnum opus and it's really hard to imagine that he will ever top this. 10/10 |

From what I understand, that "twilight" moment is when the body switch occurs. But Taki's 2016 body with Mitsuha's consciousness is somehow transported to 2013 physically in that brief moment. I thought it was only their consciousness that could travel through time, so how did this happen? |
