By the way, you say you probably have bad taste in your bio - but I'd look at it less as a specific taste is objectively good and focus more on just being critical to the things you like. If you like a specific shoujo romance a lot more than others, try to find out why.
It's been a while since I've seen Kuragehime, but I don't feel I focused on the love triangle in my review, while it definitely was on the negative side. I felt the situations were dull, the character interactions and humor lacking, the overall premise not strong enough to carry it, and the ending undermining the show's one potential idea to leave off with - the incompatibility of a NEET lifestyle while living a healthy outgoing lifestyle. I get the show could be viewed as strictly comedic in focus, but I also found the comedy too focused on quirks and lacking in variety enough to justify an entire series. I did find the romantic aspect the most interesting though, which is why I focused on it at first in my review. I also do try and explain how I felt Tsukimi didn't really come much out of her shell by the end. She still stuck closely to her roots, but simply got a good hand of cards at the ding of a microwave.
I'd agree, the quirkiness of Kuragehime is its selling point. I recommend it to people looking for that near the end: "If you want a slice-of-life series with quirky comedy and awkward situations, this show has that." I've actually never read the manga though so I don't know how the quirkiness is in that, but I actually feel it's prevalent enough in the anime. Kuragehime isn't really Josei to me while it sometimes carries airs that it'll switch to some Josei content, but the story is much more down-to-earth and Shoujo in my opinion.
I'd definitely recommend picking up Japanese again. I really couldn't imagine these VNs in anything but Japanese, and any time I do see translations (even professional), all the nuance is gone and it reads awkwardly and lifelessly compared to the original. WA2 especially, and others like Asairo and Oretsuba are made special by things inherent to the Japanese language.
Nico is indeed perfect. (Though I'll have to disagree with the notion that anybody could ever top her.)
