Assuming that almost everyone knows what the Naruto Run is, I'll move on to the topic. ( In case if anyone doesn't, it's the edgy kid way of running with both your hands behind your back.)

I almost forgot (or tried to forget ) that anything called the Naruto Run actually exist, but then a certain anime had to reminded me about that painful stuff again. To think that a modern anime would use such things, I'm beyond surprised!
Why would they still use something like that in anime? It's not like this will actually make you run faster or anything...

Now moving on to the topic:

Why does this trope still exist in anime? I thought this naruta run was long extinct. Are the anime studios actually taking them seriously? Why is the "Naruto Run" still a thing in and outside of anime?

I'm not blaming anyone or anything. This just.... brings back painful memories >.<

It looks stylish. That's basically it--a stylish action show wanted to make their characters run in a manner more stylish than plain ol' running.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Maybe Japanese people don't actually cringe whenever they see it, unlike westerners? Maybe they even think it looks cool? Dunno.
I don't think Naruto run was ever a thing outside anime.

I don't know. Maybe the studios think it looks more dramatic than just running regularly? To be fair, if someone did that in real life they'd get laughed at, but this is Anime where it's a thing.

Naruto probably didn't invent it, but I have a feeling it popularized it.

Well, you're gravely mistaken. I can still remember kids running like that during my high school days. Some even wore those Naruto headbands!

The naruto run is an excellent technique with many advantages and allows for a faster run. When you run you can't bring your chest too forward because you would fall but his ingenious and revolutionary style manages to do that thanks to the arms pointing backwards that keep the balance preventing the otherwise unavoidable fall. And of course as we all know the more forward your chest is the faster you run.

It was there long before Naruto came out. I've seen this in mostly anime related to Ninjas like Flame of Recca and Ninku. Maybe it's easier to animate or maybe it looks different/cool or maybe it's aerodynamically beneficial. You do look like an airplane while running like that.

I used to run like that sometimes and emulate Fuusuke as a kid. I was a retarded child.

Well sonic does that kind of run to you know?

there are mainly 2 reason why they do it:
1. it looks cool to them
and
2. it is allot easier to Animate that because then they don't have to animate the arms swinging

I never said that running like a plane is ridiculous. I'm just saying that it's ridiculous to think that this kind of running would be faster than normal run :/

Why the fuck not?
It looks kewl and it's an aerodynamically efficient way of running.

You see, running like that makes your body a streamlined shape by cutting off the resistance your arms would've produced otherwise, making cutting through air easier hence increasing your running velocity.

Tobe honest I can't see the difference between your original post and all those so-called "anti-echi" threads you are against all the time. Are you being hypocritical? :D
Wat?
My original post has nothing related to ecchi. It's just against a trend that grew from a single mainstream anime.

And to think that you of all people would defend kabaneri... '>.>

@Bobby2hands, it's understandable for small shaped fictional character to run like that ( tbh, it'd look weird if sonic ran like normal humans).
But for a human shaped character to run like that, idk, 2clichéd4me.

As for why Naruto is a thing? Beats me!

I imagine running like that would give you less balance and you'd eventually fall forwards if you sprint fast enough.

Why not?And why isn't it called the "Arale run" by the way? (right, @bikers123 , it is old)

I'm sure I saw the EVA-01 do this some years before Naruto started. Or Sonic even before.
I always found this pretty bizarre in Naruto because it looked like a "cheap" replacement for what you can see in some historical reconstitutions where ninja are running with an arm in front of them and the other hand in the back (I saw it in some animated movie too)

This is just a guess, but I would say that it might be easier to animate than a normal person run with their arms pumping.
