Watch Babysteps, https://myanimelist.net/anime/21185/Baby_Steps, and Log horizon, https://myanimelist.net/anime/17265/Log_Horizon?q=log%20horizon. Also Hunter x Hunter (2011), if you haven't seen that yet.

Well hmm....going solely by that standard, I'd suggest you watch Fate/Stay Night. I've seen it before, but am currently rewatching it so I can watch the following versions. But it certainly has that debate on what's morally right and wrong. Strong main character who wants to do what's right, even if it seems to not fit how the "world" works. Check it out someday! 😊

I read it, it was a great review! and didn't spoil the OVA which I hadn't watched before reading lol but I have now. Not sure which ending I prefer. My review on my tumblr just spoils everything in the ending lol.

So you're recently getting into anime, that's really kool. Your list has 11 anime a completed, which isn't a great amount, but I'm curious if you've been able to make any decisions about what it is you like about any of the animes? The genres? The art? From such a small selection it's hard to decide what would be best to suggest as something you might actually enjoy. Lemme know and I'll see if I can make any recommendations!

I see. Maybe the more anime you watch, you will be able to do a 1-10 scale. You can see my profile on how I do my ratings. I feel all aspects are pretty important, but not equally important. Like you said you in Haruhi that you enjoyed the technical aspects. I feel overall the movie really pulls it to be very good for me personally.

I think a big thing for you will be how your enjoyment changes. The characters and ideas in SAO are all new because you haven't really seen anime before. Eventually, the same tropes occur and you start to lose enjoyment. I don't mean it is a bad show like some people say, but my opinion has changed a lot on what I thought was new and interesting eventually to realize that it isn't . It is the same thing with music or any other media. Sometimes a new thing is so good because you just don't know the medium then several years you go listen to that same album, and you are like this isn't really that special at all and pretty unoriginal actually.

I am glad you are taking an interest though and writing a lot about it. I had fun reading it. There are shows that I enjoy basically the whole time, but still give a 6 or 7 and it is like an action movie. It is fun and exciting but in the end, it feels pretty empty. It set out what it wants to do, but to compare a fun movie like the Avengers to A Clockwork Orange or The Godfather just makes pure enjoyment ratings difficult for me. Things like character development, OST, character design, and VAs are so important but sometimes I don't "enjoy" certain things but realize how good they are. Like I hate Haruhi as a person, but love her as a character. I don't know if that means I enjoy her?

What are your thoughts?
will999909 May 30, 2016 5:47 PM
You haven't added the scores to your anime list. You said you were writing a blog, and I was wondering if we had similar tastes and if I should read it.
will999909 May 30, 2016 5:39 PM
Can you add scores, please.

Oh interesting and I read the spoiler, makes sense. I'll try and see if I can finish it finally next week! I keep trying to catch up with some of the American shows I watch in the day lately, that's why I've barely watched anime the past month. I watch too many things! lol.
stephtastrophe May 26, 2016 2:10 PM
Awww, you finished it before me! I watched 2 today, finally found out what happened to Yuno's parents, I can't believe they did that to her and not surprised she locked them in there and let them starve after that.

Awww, it got you outta a funk. I liked Frank way before I even knew what Angel Beats was lol.

I love Harry Connick Jr too, who Frank mentored too.

Yeah I agree, he sings with passion and emotion and it does have soul in it.

I agree with you about music nowadays, no emotion really behind any of it tbh.

Yeah, it bummed me out when I read Frank suffered from depression, it's so sad. He was a wonderful singer and actor. Have you ever seen his movies? but apparently he was often difficult on set.

What you said really rings true!

There definitely won't be another like him although Harry Connick Jr comes damn close.

That'd be cool but possibly disappointing.

It's like when I heard the Alexandra Burke version of Jeff Buckley's song Hallelujah - his rendition had so much raw emotion behind it and was beautiful but her version, never had any emotion to me.

Jeff Buckley is one of the few that comes close in powerful and emotional songs, it's just so sad he died so young!

Jeff Buckley ver.

Alexandra Burke ver.

Hey, I saw you on the boards about the ad blocking thing and I saw the Frank Sinatra song quote in your sig and I love Frank Sinatra lol. I was listening to his albums the other day, I got 4 cheap lol. Plus saw it say you were also watching Future Diary!
Bobby2Hands May 23, 2016 12:23 PM
Also I'm kinda disappointed that you never mentioned the dialogue/monologues and cinematography as they are two of the shows strongest aspects yet you didn't say so much as a single word about them.
Bobby2Hands May 23, 2016 12:16 PM
Oh sorry, you got a bit lost amongst my comments and I kinda forgot about you, please don't have Wallace Shawn yell at me again :p

Yeah sure good review, the only one point I would like to make.

You cite the biggest problem about this show is character development, you understand this is about 2.5 books worth of material out of 11 and counting. How much do you think a character should develop in such a short span?
Because I think they already did a great job growing the characters the amount they needed to relevant to the amount of material covered. Do you expect/want them to be completely different people within such a short span of time? because that would seem like crappy writing to me. Not to mention why would you even need the characters to develop? This is a comedy after all, most of the greatest comedies completely eschew character development.
Plus I would straight up argue that you are wrong, and characters in fact do develop, even just from the first arc alone.

Again I find it odd that the characters are the part of the show you choose to criticise as that is usually one of the most lauded aspects of the show, but then again I suppose character enjoyment is always one of the most subjective things to a viewer.
Bobby2Hands May 18, 2016 12:16 PM
Oh wow it's a long one :p

I'll give it a read when I have the spare time and get back to you ^^
Bobby2Hands May 17, 2016 9:41 AM
Sure, looking forward to it ^^
Bobby2Hands May 17, 2016 2:52 AM
Cool, just a couple of things.
Okay first of all Don't judge the entire series based on the Endless 8. You understand that was just 1 chapter in the books and the only reason it got repeated 8 times was because of a fuck up at KyoAni.
How much you enjoy characters is very subjective, but for me at least one of Haruhi's greatest strengths lies in its characters, particularly Kyon who is featured in nearly every scene in the entire anime (of course he would he's a first person narrator)
In fact the characters in Haruhi are so influential and well put together (many of the characters we enjoy today were influenced by the SOS brigade) that I have trouble understanding why anyone would find this a valid area to criticise the show on.

For me it's a show with beautiful art and animation, fantastic memorable characters, first rate voice acting, unique and engaging cinematography, snappy dialogue, an intriguing plot and a quirky cheerful nature underscoring the whole thing. A massively influential and important anime who's effect can still be seen in the industry today...but that's just my opinion.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
