Why does Edgey have that steel samurai figurine in his office, even though he hasn't met Oldbag yet?

Disappointed at the lack of Gumshoe's theme and Grossbergs theme.

Still pretty crap but at least it was better than the first episode.

He even has the king of prosecutors statue even though he got it between 1-4 and
1-5. A-1 just used the design of his office from 1-5 and they didn't pay attention at those things. It really looks like they played the game for the first time only a few weeks before making the episode.

They most likely will skip at least the 5th case ... sadly, it's one of the best, imo. :/

@Episode

It was better than the first one, but still underwhelming. Wonder how Phoenix vs. Miles in the next episode is done.

Hopefully they turn the 5th case into a movie, then pray that after the movie credits we get some announcement that the 3rd game will be adapted. *crosses fingers*

Skipping out the 3rd case would be a shame, despite its goofy nature, it is actually a decent case to boot, and the Steel Samurai is quite an important figure to the series.

Maya crying breaks my heart, sob.

This episode was great. :D I always really liked this case in the games so I'm super excited to see the courtroom scenes animated.

Also really glad that whoever subbed this episode used the American localized names. Really was not feeling up to learning all the Japanese names.

Maya looks cute and has a cute voice. Edgey sounds really high class and superior like even if his seiyuu is really low class.

The first two trials were never that good because they introduced the killer. At least in the last three trials counting the extra was where they weren't shown.

With Edgeworth already having that trophy, it looks like they might skip the 5th case but it also means they might adapt it. Hopefully they do, I want to see some Ema Skye.

It looks like the subs are using the English names now. Idk, I kinda want it to keep using the Japanese names since the subs would match what the characters are saying.

It's sad to see that Chihiro is gone so soon, but I think this will make room for Naruhodo's growth as an attorney. Decent set up episode, I'm sure I already know who will win the case but lets see how Naruhodo fares against Mitsurugi.

Also, I didn't know miso ramen = burgers.......wtf was that.....
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Better than the last and still adapted well, but with a few awkward moments (there was no transition between explaining who Edgeworth was and going back to Gumshoe, and they didn't include the conversations with April May).
The statement below is true.

Yuuki Aoi voicing Maya/Mayoi!!! That makes all the better.

As for the low score on MAL, I can't say I'm surprised given what happened to Chihiro. Even when playing the games, that was the biggest hurdle to get over. But it certainly isn't the last time we see of her though, and that's all I can say without going into major spoiler territory.

The best stories come later, with each case, flashbacks, and scattered hints throughout, all leading up to more and more climactic cases. So for those dropping this because of only the first couple of episodes, you're making a huge mistake...which is the opposite of what I would normally say had this been an anime-only title. But since it's based off a game, then it's a given that it starts off slow and builds up.

Did anybody notice that they changed the date? In the anime, the trial takes place on the 6th April while it's the 6th September in the game. I wonder why they'd do that, maybe because it's April now? Or they wanted to justify the cherry blossoms...

lol, i found this quite funny actually cuz the detective felt almost dumb enough for that to be an actual possibility. Like, if gumshoe had been the one to find the body instead of phoenix wright, i would have sent another police patrol just to double check she was actually dead xD

I'm pretty sure Crunchyroll still has both unlocalized and localized sub tracks, and HS rips the latter. In the localized games, Maya's favorite food is burgers instead of ramen, so I guess the localized subs match that.

How awkward that would be if they actually show her eating....

Escpacially since they DID admit that it takes place in Japan... in EP1 with the timezone thing, unless you'd start making the case that the statue of liberty... is actually in Japan and the victim in EP1 was actually a Japanese citizen and that the story takes place IN New York instead of Japanifornia.

Ugh. Maya's voice is exactly as annoying as I expected. Just hearing her cry is giving me Madoka flashbacks.

I couldn't help but notice that Mia was using a cell phone during the first scene. In the game, the office had one of those corded phones, and Phoenix noticed that the receiver was missing some screws, hinting at the use of the wiretap. How does a large wire tap like that get put in a cell phone?

Do like Gumshoe and Edgeworth's voices though. I had no attachment to any of the Japanese voices (in fact I've only heard them through a weird promotional "case" about Gumshoe's lunchbox getting stolen) so I have no complaints about replacements. Phoenix's voice I'm more familiar with through the Dual Destinies trailers, but I don't mind his new one.

Speaking of voices, that's all way get of our "witness" and it's exactly as disgustingly over-sexualized as it needs to be for that character.

Overall not a bad episode. The investigation in this one was kind of minimal, and the killer was already given away in the games, so it's fine to cut out some stuff. They're laying it on a little too thick with the cherry blossom stuff, but the rest of the episode is fine.

This is ass :[

The adaptation is horribly uninspired straightforward and dull. This is worse than Danganronpa adaptation.

Some games can't be adapted this straight. You need to be creative in portraying it instead of just copy pasting parts of the game script :{

Giving it two more episodes, hopefully it becomes an adaptation this franchise deserves.

Not just the detective, but in general most characters seem to be dumb as hell in this series. The prosecutor looks bright enough not to take a case without a proper forensic report though.

Anyway, like others said, it's better than the first episode but still not good enough... going by the preview, seems like the "Ace" is presenting illegally acquired and contaminated evidence to defend his case. I feel like face palming already but I'll save it for next episode.

Yeah compared to the previous I thought this episode's case has somewhat of a creepy tone to it at first.

Naruhodou made some interesting discoveries before almost getting caught into some lewd mess. Ha, that would of been priceless. No real courtroom session debate yet but I think the episode conveniently sets up for next time.

It have nothing to do with anime translation ...

Gyakuten Saiban (JP) game = Ramem
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney game (US) = Hamburguers

I have heard that Capcom didn't want many japanese references in the game (from beginning they were planning to release it in overseas, I tought). So, localisation come since the games, and now subs are following this to please fans who have played the (US) version from game.

Even myself had played (US) version, because AA wasn't translated for my language.

As I expected, now that the tutorial case was covered in the first episode, the pacing is going to be better from now on. I really liked it, I would have prefered if Gumshoe was introduced at the Police Station, because when he entered the bufete the mood changed from "tragic death of a character" to "here comes the good old Gumshoe!".
Also, I loved the scene of Maya and Phoenix in the interrogation at the end. I don't remember if there was a similar encounter in the game, but I hope there's more moments like this.

Functional so far but just imagine what could have been made if the animation was better and the director took some liberties to adapt the story into anime format.

Also I still don't understand why they spoil the villain at the very beginning of the case.

I know what you mean. I know A-1 pictures has never been the best studio ever, but tbh i was expecting a bit more. I think part of the reason y everyones quite lacking in the "basic logical thinking" department might be cuz thats how the game actually is. I mean, they chucked the sister in prison for just being there (which is stupid cuz phoenix was also there so wtf, the fact that he's a lawyer doesn't make him automatically not guilty). Then again i feel that was done cuz the game is about solving cases, so they probably at times sacrifice logical storytelling for good gameplay (wouldnt be the first game to do this). ALso not impressed with how A1 didn't really adapt the game into an anime, its more like they made an anime out of game footage almost, if u know what i mean (too many game quirks and mechanics are kept in the anime, making it feel too little like an anime and too much like a game imo) But maybe thats partly cuz ive never played the games that i feel that way i dunno.

In any case, i think this might not be for me, i dunno if ill continue with it

Well ... it was Capcom's idea for games. But I guess that Capcom have not much to do with the anime, maybe a dubbed (will it really happens? omg please "Objection" in english voices) would follow the japanese game. Anyway, is nice to see that some subs do care about this.

Yeah, this. 2-4 is my favorite case in the entire series, so I'll be annoyed if they mess it up. 1-5 would be great as a movie or OVA series. Maybe the circus case could be skipped, if they had to skip one, but I'd rather they didn't.
