Yeah somehow

I started anime with Digimon that aired in a local spanish channel then I got cartoon network and I think at 9:00 pm Toonami started and they aired shaman king and dragón Ball and detective conan on there that of course I watched. Toonami got cancelled on Spain on 2009 so no way I can watch it :/

I started watching anime through Toonami and my first anime ever was DBZ.

I don't watch Toonami as often as I used to but, now that they're airing Gurren Lagann, I'll be sure to check it out again.

Heard something called Naruto back when was first being dubbed saw it on Toonami and got hooked never missed a new episode. That was the first and last time I watched and kept up with a series on television. I thought it was amazing then I did some research and found more like Naruto called anime and thus it began the long years of anime before I came on MAL. Naruto was my first.

Toonami and ...Fox Kids, I think the channel was called?
Edit - yeah, Fox Kids which was then replaced by Jetix.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

They brought back Toonami around 2012 I believe. It is a segment as part of Adult Swim.

I did watch a few things on Toonami when I was younger. But it wasn't really what got me into anime. A friend of mine introduced me to a few shows (shows that weren't featured on Toonami) and that's how I started my journey.

Yeah I remember fox kids also I kept watching when it became Jetix. Whatever it became after that I stopped watching. I would say the anime I first watch that opened me up to it was either Pokemon/Digimon/Yugioh. For years I didn't realize that anime was a bigger concept. I just happen to watch all these different shows on Toonami and Jetix and someothers here and there. When I got older my family and friends made fun of me and told me to grow up. Then I became an adult and realized I really hate live action and didn't care what people thought of my choices in shows.

As a french representative, I started like every people of my age in the country: a very dumb show called "Club Dorothée" who mainly aired japanese animation simply because it was CHEAP (they could buy anything for nothing, the bands were literally sold for a price based on the lengths).

While the previous generation had discovered Grandizer (a Nagai series set after Mazinger), Candy Candy, Gigi, Cpt Flam (not sure of the name), Cpt.Harlock (two series) and Space Adventure Cobra along french/japanese productions wich I also saw (The mysterious Golden cities, Ulysses31), my period was full of JUMP adaptations. My first anime (I was 3 years old) were:
- Dragon Ball (Z later),
- Saint Seiya,
- Kimagure Orange Road,
- Wingman,
- Cpt. Tsubasa -_-,
- Cat's Eyes,
- Hokuto no Ken,
- Magical Angel Creamy Mami,
and later: Sherlock Holmes, the Nippon Animations productions based on litteratur classics, City Hunter, Fushigi no Umi no NadiaNadia, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2 up until I leaved the primary school.

Of course, each of those titles was censored in a way or another ;)

I started watching anime by borrowing dvds from different people. There was a chick in middle school who introduced me to anime, and another dude in high school who lent me a few movies and feature films to watch alongside some series. Everything else I either bought or streamed online. I didn't even really get into watching anime and reading manga until I was out of university.

The extent of shows on television that I watched were shows like Pokemon, Digimon, CCS, DBZ, etc.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Digimon and Pokémon on cartoon network and foxkids then DBZ and Naruto on toonami which i fell in love with. My friend showed me Fma brotherhood and then I found Kekkaishi and that's when I started looking for more anime to watch.

Nop, I started watching Pokemon on Cartoon Network, it aired at 1:30 pm, so it was right on time after I finished school. Although I don't even knew that it was an anime, I thought that it was just a regular cartoon.

Of course, Dragonball Z was the gateway anime for me, after that I moved on to other Toonami shows, Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo... and things went from there.

Watched Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Cardcaptor Sakura when I was a young child in the late 90's/early 2000's, although I didn't know they were anime at the time and just thought they were cartoons. Think all of them were on CITV. Then in my 1st year of college I watched an abridged version of Naruto with friends (made by masakox and vegeta3986). Enjoyed it enough to watch the english dub of Naruto before switching to subs when I caught up on all of the dubbed episodes at the time, then branched out into others anime from there.

Yes, Dragonball Z on Toonami got me interested in checking out the medium. It was around the right time too, because there was a lot of it available for me to try just on TV stations. After highschool I got a job and became a DVD/BD collector which opened up a lot more titles to view as well.

I'd say I have. Me and my brothers would watch DBZ for the most part. And I remember when they played Hamtaro in the after-school hours, which I loved the hell out of back then.

I still watch Toonami pretty much ever Saturday night. It's fun to watch shows that I wouldn't try on my own accord on a weekly basis.

Yes, I did. Tenchi and Outlaw Star (as part of CNX) aired, I was too young to understand the harem concept and I didn't get half the story in either of the two but I kept coming back 'cos there was something...unique about them two shows...then came DBZ and then with the internet boom, I realised this was all anime and for better or for worse, I was hooked.

I got into anime by watching DBZ on toonami back in 2000. This was followed by watching other shows, also on toonami, such as Gundam wing, Cowboy Bebop and GitS:SAC. Fox kids also had decent enough anime such as Shaman king. Good times.

Toonami was definitely influential, but don't forget a few of the other cool TV blocks that showed anime. I remember Sci-fi used to have Ani-Monday and used to show a lot of movies in the 90s. The long dead TechTV used to have Anime Unleashed as well.

Should also do a poll.
This way we would know

1. Toonami
2. VHS
3. VCD
4. 4Kids or Fox Kids (not sure if they are different)
5. YTV
6. CITV
7. Ghibli

Use the following above for the poll

They play a fair bit of anime on, I believe the station is Super3. A lot of Ghibli flims, Lupin, One Piece DBZ and a few others. It is the Catalán station though.

As for the OP: I got my start watching anime through my older cousins. They would lend me the series they had already seen.
