It's so stupid, Yaoi is always better than Yuri. In Yaoi, not only the Sex, but everything, the story, the art, the romance , everything <3 Oh, Yaoi always sell better than Yuri. |

To give a serious answer, because the repercussions of a man being homosexual are greater than the repercussions of a woman being homosexual (think violence, etc). Therefore, the fear of being called/labeled/seen as homosexual (homophobia) is greater in men than in women, and is thus acted on more by men than women, against homosexual men more than homosexual women. This of course loops back around and makes life all the more terrible for homosexual men, and starts the process all back up again, increasing homophobia and leading to more extreme homophobic behaviors. Nasty positive feedback loop. |

Nasty positive feedback loop. this this this this this! Everything you said is very true. Although, one of the reasons why it is so wrong for men to be portrayed as feminine homosexuals is because of the patriarchy in our culture, and even more prevalent in other cultures. I will not say lesbians do not face repurcussions, because most of them do as well (especially when they are not feminine sexual lesbians as porn portrays). However, the repurcissions for gay men are slightly greater because of a society built upon patriarchy, |

Essentially, these anime are both romance. I kind of find the idea of yuri or yaoi fandom to be a bit silly. You're not a fan of a genre. Maybe because I don't read yuri manga, or any kind of yaoi. But most yuri shows seem to be pretty individual. Other than maybe a few tropes, they don't seem to have a ton in common. The only reason half of them are even recognized or remembered is simply because of lesbians. If not they'd be forgotten about |

I didn't meet many guys loving yuri (I think 0). Both genres are pretty repeatable. You don't need to read/watch many to know who's gonna be uke, seme, tachi, neko or whatever you want to call the characters. It's mostly a matter of taste. whether you choose to watch/read or not. I know that many people have problems with gay relationships even in the real life, so I would not expect them to be huge fan of yaoi. Lesbians are seen in another light (oh, just look who watches lesbian porn...), often as girls who will magically turn into hetero when they find the right man. Personally I would love to see people wanting to discover new genres and titles but mostly they have their own little fears and prefer to stick with known world. You can't make people like something, you can make them stop hating it for no real reason. First to judge are always those who have never seen something or are lacking knowledge about the topic. It's human nature to comment before getting to know something better. It's fine if they don't like something. It stops being fine when they start a flame war about it. |

Shows like Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto portray their homosexual love stories in a more normalized, realistic manner rather than the tiring fan-servicey, pandering style that we're more accustomed to. I just want more cool BL/GL series' that's more about the love and interaction between two homosexual characters rather than the fan-service. |

It is because most anime fans are guys and most guys are into Yuri than Yaoi. I for one am a supporter of gay rights but I don't watch Yaoi nor do I watch Yuri. Now, before people accuse me of being a homophobe and that I'm insecure about my sexual orientation...let me tell you that I'm not. I don't watch Yaoi or Yuri shows because I get no enjoyment out of it. I myself am not gay so watching gay people get it on is not something that I'm interested in. It does nothing for me. Doesn't interest me. I am a gay rights supporter though. This is because I feel like people deserve to love whoever they want and should not be stopped due to a case of gender. I brought up the whole ''insecure'' stuff because apparently, if you don't watch Yaoi then you are insecure about your sexual orientation. Which is absolutely stupid. Why would I watch something that doesn't interest me? I think it is a really low move to use ''insecure'' as a means to make you feel guilty. I've seen it happen a lot of times so I just felt like I needed to say it. |

I don't mind yaoi type relationships being in anime I watch and the same goes for yuri, but I would never go out of my way to watch straight up yaoi/yuri anime because I don't find it interesting to me. Apparently there is something called shonen-ai and shoujo-ai which I just learned about from this thread. Something like this I wouldn't mind seeing in a manga/anime if it didn't consist of the entire thing. Although I have read/watched No. 6, and didn't know it had a shonen-ai (am I using this right?) aspect to it. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and thought it was a great read/watch. The same goes for Shinsekai Yori, I enjoyed watching this as well. Most people seemed to drop it when it had some yaoi/yuri elements in it which I find dumb because its not like they were having sex and it really wasn't in your face. Not to mention it lasted an episode maybe an episode and a half. |

Most animes/mangas have at least some fujobait scene, no matter what demographic it is aimed. There is a Yaoi fanbase for everything, even the most improbable franchises ever(Inazuma Eleven, Professor Layton, Bananas in Pajamas, Kaiji,High School DxD, Oreigaru).Cartoony artstyle, 1:10 male female character ratio, children's shows, canon straight love interest, NOTHING can impede fujoshis ruining everything with some shit fanart or fanfic. It's annoying, it's on the same level as MLP fandom. Yuribait is pretty rare, there is some in Mahou shoujo here and here and that's about it...And most men prefer "normal" hentai than Yuri anyway. But all the female otaku I 've ever known are fujos, no exception and they hate straight sex so much that I suppose they are transsexual gay men or something like that. I've seen some Shoujo ai mangas with fujobait scenes(WTF?).I mean, ecchis, harems, even eroge adaptations have fujobait, this shit got out of control. We'll never have a anime/manga with 0% of fujobait, it's impossible, i'ts really really sad.Even Prison School and Highschool DxD had some Yaoi scenes.... |

"Shōnen'ai" and "shōjo-ai" categories are invention from the Westerners, they don't exist in Japan. Actually if you go in Japan, you should avoid to use those words, except you don't mind passing for a Class A+ pervert. By extension, since they are not used in Japan, not all Westerners use those words, I don't use them. So when someone speak about "yuri" or "yaoi", don't automatically assume that the person imply that it contains sexual contents. Especially in case of the "yuri", since the yuri fandom globally avoid the "shōjo-ai" term, the yaoi fandom seems more prone to use "shōnen'ai" though. I dunno why there is this disymmetry between the two fandom. |

I do want to point out first that it's not because most anime fans are male. If you visit any yuri fanpage, blog, etc. you'll find that almost always more than 50% of the fans are female. There are also VASTLY more straight females who enjoy yuri than straight males who enjoy yaoi. This is because yuri tends to be more about the romance/elegance/"cuteness" of the relationship than yaoi, which girls tend to like. Not just saying that, you can look it up yourself. I daresay it also has nothing to do with yaoi as a genre. As a straight male, I obviously have no interest in yaoi, but I'm not going to actively dislike something just because it is not my taste. The dislike of yaoi (for me and many other anime fans I've spoken to) stems from the fanbase. I understand not all yaoi fans are like this, but while you almost never see obnoxious yuri fans posting all over yaoi fan pages and shoving their ships in your face, there are yaoi fans doing this on a regular basis. And don't just take my word for it, look up popular yuri ships from big shows like Attack on Titan or Naruto on Youtube for example and you'll always find that comment from the yaoi fan with more likes than any other comment being like "What about that malexmale ship though?" Harmless? I suppose. Disrespectful and annoying? Yep! Anyway, sorry for the long post. But yah, that's why. To all the yaoi fans, please just enjoy what you enjoy with your own group; we don't need that stuff flung everywhere x_x |
