Do you prefer getting gifts from people or giving them out? How often do you give or receive gifts and from who? Best/worst gifts you've given/gotten? what's your ideal gift? [size=95]My Answer I prefer to give gifts, but that doesnt mean I dont like getting stuff. I just feel more joy when I give someone something that puts a smile on there face and I'm not very materialistic often caring more about the sentimental value of items rather then their actual value. I often get gifts from my friends and family. Money is an ok gift, it's the most conventional, but I dont think it means very much. I really like getting jewelry, but my favourite gifts are usually things people make or that come from the heart. A specially made piece of jewelry, preferably a necklace that someone made just for me, that came from their heart and is really pretty would be one of the best gifts I could think of. Please discuss and share stories~ |

I enjoy giving out gifts, but I don't mind receiving them as well. It's quite rare nowadays for me to gift people though due to my studies etc. and also because I'm poor as fuck. My most common gifts would have to be boxes of chocolate original as f My ideal gift would be something that the person would enjoy, and also remember me by. Perhaps something luxurious. Alcohol isn't too bad as well for a good gift. |

I prefer giving gifts over receiving any, but if I am to receive gifts I am most happy when it has more of a sentimental value as it truly shows how much they care about you. It has been a long time since I last gifted someone since I hang around people who do not really enjoy receiving gifts in fear of feeling obliged to gift me something back, when that is far from my case, as I always give without expecting nothing but their gratitude in return. To be honest I haven't received many gifts throughout my life. I've received a book concerning philosophical stuff of which I enjoyed reading it very much. And also when people make little gifs or something around those ways for me I feel beyond happy. As long as their gifts come from their heart, I will always appreciate them and be grateful for it. |

gifts tailored specifically to me are great handmade stuff, things related to niche interests of mine generic gifts are no fun i can't get very excited about something i could have bought myself... of course, i will appreciate it but if i am not receiving something special, i would rather give gifts i like to think i can be generous when i do and i like to personalise gifts a little, or just make them weird so hopefully i am not a boring person to receive things from... seeing people happy to receive gifts, and interested in them, gives a great feeling |

This thread looks cute and pure Receiving mainly but it feels nice to give gifts to someone I really care for. For me it's the "thought that counts" thing more than the actual gift. I still wear an old iron coin necklace a friend gave me 8 years ago and it was less than $10. Of course there are limits to that. My rich aunt gave me a fucking plastic bag as a gift. Fuck her. |

I definitely prefer to give gifts much more than getting them. I can't think of a bad one I gave. I did give my parents a $750 spa vacation a couple years ago. |
I love Christine "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness." - Henry David Thoreau |

I don't really like receiving gifts since very few people ever give me anything I'm remotely interested in. I know they say "it's the thought that counts", but it feels like no thought is put into the gifts I often receive, it's like they don't even know who I am. Buying me perfume for example is just plain insulting. As for giving gifts, I used to enjoy handing out gifts to the people I cared about, but none of those people really cared about me as much as I did about them, so it's left somewhat of a bitter taste in my mouth how indifferent they thought of me despite trying to be as good a friend as I could be (not just by "buying their love" with gifts, but trying to be there for them when they needed it and giving support and advice). I just reserve gift giving to family members now. |

Do you prefer getting gifts from people or giving them out? Both. I like giving because making someone happy is great, and I like receiving because knowing someone thinks about you is nice. How often do you give or receive gifts and from who? For birthdays and other special occasions. I receive them from friends and family. Best/worst gifts you've given/gotten? I don't have a worst gift. I like creative gifts though, when someone puts some thought into making/buying one. The best gift I gave to someone (imo) was for my best friend's 18th birthday. I bought bunch of things (mostly necklaces, badges and cups) related to LOTR, HP, GoT and Batman and for every thing I wrote a short message with some of our memories related to that franchise or quotes that describe him. Put all of it in a nice box filled with gold-coins-shaped-chocolate becase he loves money and chocolate and that was it. What's your ideal gift? Don't have one. Although, I like getting books. |

I think I enjoy both equally. I love getting gifts because, well, who doesn't? It's nice to know people are thinking about you. It's also great when you receive something you really wanted. Giving is great because it's really fun to try to pick a gift out that will make someone happy. I love to see the look of happiness on someone's face when I pick out something they like. I always get my partner surprises with money I get for holidays so that I can make him happy. As for what I think is the worst gift, for me it's clothes. I'm extremely picky about clothes. I only have a couple of stores and websites that I will shop at, and I tend to dislike clothes from anywhere else. The only person who is capable of clothes shopping for me is my partner. |

Do you prefer getting gifts from people or giving them out? Giving. Don't you like that warm feeling? :D Also I always feel that I owe them one when I get something. I usually pay them back one way or another. (aren't I nice? ^^) How often do you give or receive gifts and from who? Usually once a year or so someone will gift me something. If not then I just treat myself to something. I actually have a habit of just giving gifts for little reasons. Usually because they were really nice to me or to thank them for something. Best/worst gifts you've given/gotten? Mmm.. money? They/I easily bought something nice they/I liked with it. Socks? lol (from family member of course) what's your ideal gift? Something someone made or put some effort to. Not just a random knickknack you can get at the $1 store. |

This thread is lovely. MAL needs more like this. I love giving gifts often and I'll often try to find something that the recipient would really like (I.e. tailored towards their interests). I sometimes worry that it isn't good enough but I try my best regardless. Seeing a friend or family member happy at what I've given them always makes my day and their smiles are the best gift of all. I like receiving gifts as well, even if it's something that I wouldn't particular want the fact that they cared is good enough for me. There are some gifts I received a long time ago that I still keep now, such as a watch my father gave me. |

Whenever I get invited to a birthday party, I always give a gift to the birthday person. Christmas, yes to close friends. Birthdays, yes to close friends even if we don't celebrate. Best/worst gifts you've given/gotten? Best - my best friend gave me a Rilakkuma plush in 12th grade and got a bunch of the band members to sign a card. Worst - I don't remember. I like receiving gifts, but only if it's something I'd really love, like a new Playstation 3 or maybe even a light novel. I'm materialistic that way. Giving gifts, on the other hand, only feels good when it's someone I like enough to give a gift in the first place, which makes sense. That being said, it's also why I don't give gifts very often. |

I definitely prefer giving, i like making people happy, the happiness i get from it lasts much longer I get gifts for things like my birthday and Christmas, sometimes something special from a friend . One of my close friends are always giveing gifts back and fourth. I give gifts whenever i have the opportunity. Best gift, In terms of sentimental value, a turtle plushie i got from a great aunt when i was 8, and a hand carved and engraved box from my uncle when i tuned 13. Worst ? i dont know really , if i had to say it was a gift from an ex that was pretty important to me but asked for it back when we were no longer together Ideal gift , anything anyone puts any effort or planning into. |

I have felt happy about the small gifts that I've given in the past, but I have more experience on the receiving end. If no one is willing to receive gifts then the people trying to give them will feel like shit. Giving and receiving are equally important. |
