THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well this felt rushed.

We get Akeichi as he takes his final approach against his adversaries.
I will say that it was kinda thrilling to see all the events coming together. And not only that, Twenty Faces does seem like legitimate threat with their role at this point of the story. Just felt odd that it's coming together in the end in this way though.

I find the symbolism of the butterflies to be somewhat interesting. But overall, the show is still underwhelming.

There is often a fine line between comedy and crap; metaphor and muddle; parody and pathetic; which can make it hard to determine which side of the line a work is on. Fortunately for us, perhaps, this show didn't even try to approach those lines.

A pointless ending to a pointless waste of artistic talent (and our time). A thimble full of character development aside, this was a show void of any real content except for emotional pandering and not even 10 year old attempt at social commentary. Pity. Glad it is over.

Decent ending IMO. It was rather predictable after Akechi met Kobayashi and Namikoshi, but it was a very well done scene, especially Hashiba saving Kobayashi.

Nothing changed, everything was forgotten, society can't be changed.

Close 7/10 at the end, it entertained me well enough.

My thoughts about the final episode:

Finally this gender-bender mystery (and thriller) anime had ended.
And it's okayish series. So I'll rate it 5 (or 6?) score overall.
Haters always gonna hate.

Predictable, meh ending to a show that probably could have been so much better if it put as much effort into its story as it did into the art. A lack of consistent quality from one episode to another really didn't help either.

It ends, now we can start searching for those who thought making this piece of shit is better than just an episodic straight forward adaption of the original source material, gut them and hang their corpses to make an example.

The opening song was the only decent thing about this show. Last couple of episodes on the "20 Faces" arc were very infirm, especially this finale. Would've preferred if it took the episodic route concentrating on various crimes. But whatever..

Ending was average, but overall I enjoyed watching this show at least a little bit. That Shadow Man guy was funny and I liked the music. I don't know if the source material is better than the show, but it got me interested in looking into these books.

This was one of the stupidest show ever. It has two good things about it: the ED, and the episode with the detectives back story. I don't get it, that particular episode was excellent. The feelings were very well carried through, you could feel the despair when his sister was found, and I agreed with him 100%, especially with how he got revenge. So why were the rest of the episodes and cases so boring? The directing in this show was abysmal.

Also, I couldn't stand the gay undertones. And by undertones, I mean Jesus holy Christ, Why draw a girl, call her a guy, then make him gay?

Honestly, Shadow Man (the paper bag guy) and the ending song were the only things I liked about this anime. It could have been much better but I feel like the director and producers didn't really know exactly what they wanted to do with this anime, so it ended up being wasted potential.

Overall, a pretty meh anime, 4/10.

Also, during these 11 episodes, I've never seen Akechi drink anything other than coffee. That's pretty unhealthy, he probably pisses black coffee.

One of those shows that had interesting art but ended up being oh so mediocre.

The op and ed are still one of my all time favorites, but the show just wasn't that good; mostly because of the rushed last episode.

For some reason I rlly liked Namikoshi though.

Interesting but vague ending. And a few questions I had that didn't get answered. Like what were those pills that Akechi took, the injuries that their teacher had, and whether Namikoshi survived or not. And I wonder if Akechi could have saved Namikoshi if he simply acknowledged him more.

I didn't like how Kobayashi was so eager to die. I'm glad Hashiba managed to save him in time. He even broke the law for his best friend.

Kobayashi was pretty stupid to get all caught up in Namikoshi's master plan, because the only death that was really needed was Namikoshi's in order to succeed. If Kobayashi died because the world was boring to him, I can see why he would jump...but Namikoshi was jumping too, so Kobayashi wouldn't be around to see the world change (for better or worse), and that's why he was stupid. And now it's over, where the antagonist wins...something you don't usually see in other shows.

Wished that the coroner girl didn't kill herself. It would make sense that she would, since she murdered someone, but that makes his brother's life pretty much all for naught; because she's not living for for his sake, instead opting to die for her own selfish ego (after all, she already got her revenge).

Would have liked to see more paper-bag man and the crazy masochist woman get more screen-time.

Kobayashi x Hashiba OTP confirmed....? 7/10--not a bad way kill some time.

Well, alright ending I guess. I really didn't enjoy this show at first, but I'd say that latest episodes got me more entertained somehow. But this show as a whole really felt underwhelming in the end... Especially compared to some other Summer shows. Still enjoyed some moments, 7/10.

Eh, I'd have to agree. At least, it's a nice thought to think that there's vigilante's taking care of the crapsack world world in the shadows...

I think I might've liked the show more if Kobayashi was a girl... Or if the plot revolved more around Akechi's perspective instead. Also, the concept of crime and psychology is an interesting one, if done right, of course.

8/10 (OK). this series had its moments, but the ending kinda fell flat. quite a few episodes were unnecessary, but some i loved, like Kagami's backstory. also, the insert song was nice along with the stylization and symbolism in the art.

Ranpo Kitan was everything I wanted from a mystery show. Unlike everyone else, I actually liked Kobayashi for what he was, is, and what it came to be in the last episode. Definitely my favorite show from this season. Also, the best ending song is definitely Mikazuki.

OP/ED was a big hook for me to getting into this, despite that this was going downhill from the start. I expected more BL and at least some kind of underlying factor to Kobayashi being magically revealed. It was stupidly enjoyable enough if you ignored the major faults, though. 5/10

I would like to agree with you. I think the main problem was that people expected this anime to be something it wasn't, but as far as mystery anime goes, its pretty damn good.
I would compare this to Detective Conan since both Ranpo and Conan came from pretty much the same source, Rampo Edowgawa.(btw, Rampo had written a lot about the BL stuff in his works)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahem.
Though it seemed that this was rushed, it did good for what type of anime it is. People just are now underplaying it, I would like to think that the reason people dislike this anime is because it's not just a normal anime with action and girls everywhere.
But I think that the main reason was because of Kobayashi, who despite seemingly a sociopath, he did actually cry when Hashiba saved him, most likely because he was actually not wanting to die.(and for him looking a lot like a girl but Rampo liked that kind of thing so the animators went and made a character that was a guy but looks like a girl)

But oh well. Good series for what type it is, will get overshadowed by 'better' anime, but it'll still be good for those who actually like these kinds of things (mystery) like me.
