| Mushishi tries to do it with using what's known as 'defamiliarization' - taking something familiar and making it strange to give us a new way of looking at it. It doesn't get too deep into it. Medabots is a simple adventure story but it contains some nice exploration about the theme of weaponry. Its climax relies on that. Digimon Tamers' D-Reaper arc is supposed to have something to do with depression and such things. I only have vague memories of it but you can tell they tried to make something big. I can't remember much of Simoun (I was less critical then) but I'm sure it had a lot to say about gender. |
