How was it random? Kiritsugu says right there in the first episode that he knows he'll be the cause of her death. To be a vessel for the Grail means to have an extremely limited lifespan anyway.

When he said that he meant other (more meaningful) means of death, aka ultimate sacrifice and fate of grail vessel. Not some random killing. Vessels were given the consciousness to be able to defend themself from other masters.

JabonHR said:
Why would that ever happen?

All homunculi share experience and (at least parts of) memories of previous ones made from Justeaze prototype. This is because their consciousness (or should I say personality) is "somehow" tied to the Grail.

[quote=ssjokg]IN UBW

oh, you are right, nothing more should be needed. I was just questioning whether Kirei would know that but it's true he simply didn't care about the grail so her living body was no importance to him.

ssjokg said:
The homunculi have access to the memories of Justeaze. That is all.The dream at the end were visions from the grail.

This is getting so dark, I have the feeling I better watch it all at once from now on. I'm finally getting the vibe FSN had, maybe because the Grail's summoning is nearing.

I can kinda see why Urobuchi took the job on this one though. And in a way he's not doing half bad job.

There is no real reason.

He is a fan of Nasu's works and then wrote FZ.Nasu was also helping.
Fz isnt darker than FSN and Nasu isnt a softie either.

If Ilya had Iri's memories, even some of them, she would be able to tell that something is wrong with the story her grandpa told her about Kiritsugu.

As for Iri's death. Why was it random? She couldnt even function as a "human" anymore, lets not even talk about protecting herself, and her body had already started working as the vessel. Her role, even if it sound cruel, had already ended.

From IrixKiritsugu POV, this out come was WAY better since he didnt actually have to "kill her himself".

Did Iri actually die...? That end made it confusing. Her death didn't phase me as much as it would have in any case, because it was already painfully clear she wasn't going to come out alive. Kirei just made it happen a little sooner - or maybe people entering Fate through F/Z actually thought some miracle would happen to give Kiritsugu and Irisviel a happy ending, like what would happen in most other anime.

The scenes with Wave and Rider stole the spotlight in this episode. Both the scene with Waver and his "grandfather" on the roof and Waver and Rider near the end were truly heartwarming. ;-;

What? Is Irisviel dead? Is she alive? Is the Grail within her? Is she the Grail? Is the Grail alive? WHAT.

But, oh Kotomine Kirei, may you die a death worst than that of a dog's (as well as your golden bitch).

Waver and Rider :3

It's a little complicated but the short version of it is that the Einzbern homunculus has a dual function as the Holy Grail container and the lesser Grail. So she is, in part, the Grail, yes.
So they break down and yes, die, as more and more servants die. However, the Grail is not alive, but something that is inside it is, and took over her body at the end there.

Dear, that sounds scary. No wonder her face took that sinister look right at the end of this episode. This series better end on a conclusive note or I'm throwing my laptop out the window.
(So glad you're around here to clear up my questions, btw)

Well...I hope it's not the laptop is not too expensive lol
It's a prequel story so it kinda doesn't end conclusively-for me, it ends perfectly in it's role as the prequel to F/SN, but as a standalone, well the ending....yeah not so much.
It's kinda like wondering if Star Wars Episode III ends conclusively.

^THIs.

The series assumes you know everything from FSN so it doe snot explain anything.

It is litterally a side bonus story to explain how most of major reveals in FSN came to be.

In any case what I meant was there is a difference between a real prequel-which F/Z is-and a "side bonus story".

An unfortunate circumstance of the medium which leads to the wait. With a VN I can devour it all within a week.

I'll always say this series is best when it is marathoned or at least watched when ever you feel like it.

The atmosphere starts to overheat and context that is being proposed is interesting and seasoned with plenty of drama. Kirei increasingly ruthless, Kiritsugu ready for action, I look forward to the war for the Grail.

[Re-watch | BD version]

Irisviel's words... that scene was sad. She was with Kiritsugu till the very end, defending his ideals. Kire you fake priest... you could not stand her defending Kiritsugu so you killed her. Oh... the sound of her neck snapping... >.<
Bye Bye Iri.

Once again, the relation between Weaver and Rider if one of the best if not THE best Master-Servant relation.
That was a lovely scene, and again, Iskandar's words are so damn inspiring...

I can not love Fate/Zero more, really, each episode is pure greatness.

Wow, Saber and Kiritsugu can't get along, really. They almost do not look at each other's eyes.
Maybe, just MAYBE if Kiritsugu was willing to talk to her, they would understand each other well, maybe she could have understood, maybe she could have straightened up her path... maybe a lot of things could have ended differently. Who knows? But this is the path the went.

PD: That "Irisviel" of the end tho... I don't want to spoil it to anyone but... she's not Iri.

It should be clear from FSN already that there's no point of rooting for Kiritsugu. Fate/Zero characters are predestined for failure, since the outcome is clear from the start.

"Ideals are pointless" Oh get over yourself, Kirei. Haven't read the light novels or w/e so all I get for his motivation is "for the evilz and also I'm a church executor." Losing hope his motive if he has one other than the earlier mentioned will be revealed in this series. Might end up checking the Wiki or something in exasperation. :/

On the other hand Waver and Iskandar are my favorite FSN series duo from what I've seen so this series is sort of worth it for me.

I can't believe that's how Iri died... I want to murder Kotomine myself for what he did. Out of everyone, I think Iri deserved that the least. Damn Kirei.

I hope Kiritsugu finds Iri's body quick so he can bury her.

And I hope Rider or Saber or both destroy Archer, just because he's on Kirei's side.

Waver makes it back home. lol
Jiji figures out that Waver isn't his real grandson.
Ryuudou temple.
Kiritsugu hasn't slept in 40 hours.
Saber appears before Kiritsugu.
Kirei and Iri are at Caster old hideout.
Kirei...killed Iri.
Dem lights.
Dat horse.
Waver uses his command spell.
Waver is Riders friend.
Kirei and Gil.
Dem bodies.
Ilya.
Dat smile.
Iri is inside the grail. Dat smile.
Dat ending.

Iri's death is something you expect, but to just die like that at that moment... Kiritsugu is all alone and even when he realizes he only has Saber on his side, he won't talk to Saber. This has to be a record for the main character to not talk to the main female character. Disappointed in lack of nipples during the stacked homunculi scene. I can understand not on tv, but the BD? Come on. Whats the point of this being a late night anime.

Wavers 'grandparents' are so nice, they knew all along and wish for him to stay with them. I hope he stays with them after the war.

Rider and Waver are honestly the best duo. Waver gave up his command seals and ordered Rider to attain the grail and conquer yet Rider still wanted Waver to go with him. He said they had their battles together and stood side by side facing their enemies. Rider states Waver is his equal and friend in which Waver became emotional and started crying. Best duo RIDER FTW <3

Fuck you Kirei. Kiritsugu better fuck you up big time for messing with Iri.
