I know that most people say that north americans are uncaring about their fellow man, also some other countries too, but given the situation, the boy said that his jacket was stolen and his teacher told him to wait for her at the bus stop.

this was a marketing ploy done as promotion to provide winter jackets for Syrian kid refugees. Most of them went off without proper winter gear.

Lend or give? Big big difference.

Edit: Watched the video. That's lend.

Not sure really. It would depend on whether I noticed the kid in the first place, as well as if I had a jacket on me. Now that I've seen this video I probably would.

"Lend" - sure. However, the video says give, and no, I would not GIVE shit to him. It's my property. He can borrow it until we part ways or even get on the bus (if it has heating), but unless he's a bum living on the street - not just "someone stole my jacket, today sucks lol", he doesn't get to keep it.

The story with that boy doesn't involve him being a street rat, but simply having a shitty day. His mommy and daddy can buy him a new jacket when he gets home and tells them his old one was stolen.

I wouldn't wear it again until getting it cleaned though, I don't trust random people - especially not ones begging to wear my clothing.

And I'd need him to stay very close so that he couldn't try to run and steal it. I'd prefer to keep a hand on it the entire time, and if he isn't comfortable with that, he can stay cold.

Sounds like give rather than lend to me and no I wouldn't. Sure refugees have problems but thats for the governments of whatever country they arrive in to take care of, the people can't be responsible for everyone else. If I give my winter coat to some random kid, im left without a coat I payed for. I have as much right to wear that coat as anyone else, the idea of been guilt tripped into handing things away is stupid.

Same with the disabled who say treat me no different than anyone else but expect you to give up your seat on a packed bus even though you have an hours journey.

No, because in this big world the concept of 'lending' to a stranger might as well be 'giving.' This isn't your Japanese anime, they're not going to hold onto your jacket for 10 years while they wait for the day they meet you again.

Unfortunately I'm not that much better off than that kid. I don't make enough to buy a new jacket on the fly.

nice, nice the older model Canada gooses (before they became popular and lets say "at a time before the 'hypebeasts' lack of a kinder word, started rocking em,) were actually top notch quality, more so than the recent models. I find the coyote fur on some jackets from 2006-2008 (from the showrooms)much nicer and full than the new ones I see at harry rosen, or sporting life. I actually sell nobis jackets as a little side business, and although they aren't Canada goose jackets, the fur on those I find have better quality control and just look like gold in comparison to 2013-2014 winter collection CG jackets. The down has much more volume as well.

EDIT: I also wanted to remind you that Canada goose's initial target audience for their products was scientists and other working men in the arctic.

in the video none of them give this jacket and then walk away. I think they really are just lending it until the teacher comes to pick the kid up.

Sure. They can have it if the need seemed grave enough. I have plenty of others and I mostly buy former military items or cheap jackets anyways.

Once on a long trip where I couldn't eat anything given time constraints for a couple of days, I finally got a sandwhich, I gave it to some kid, waited another day to eat. Not a big deal to me.

But as I said it would depend. In my real example the girl was crying and her mom didn't have no money to get anything, hell the woman thanked me with tears in her eyes.

As to a kid, if it was some skinny little fucker male or female that looked like they were about to kill over, I would do so without a 2nd thought, I like the cold. If it was some fat kid, or one in good health that looked like they had a coat and forgot to get it, then I would not. They need to learn a hard lesson.

Overall maybe that makes me a good guy, but I won't let my kindness be taken advantage of, at the same time if its in my power, then I will help those truely in need.

I'd give my jacket to a kid who was freezing, I'm pretty tolerant to cold anyway so I could do without for awhile. Plus, I wear relatively cheap coats/jackets so I could replace it.

I've donated jackets/coats in the past, but I've never had a freezing kid around to give my coat to in person.

Taking advantage of a kid, throwing him out into the cold to make a statement?

Now that's! injustice!

In that kind of weather, hell no. My ass is freezing and I ain't tradin' places. He's not gonna die, and he certainly doesn't look poor.

But if he wants, he can go sit on my lap...

I don't own any jackets... but if I did I would probably give it to the kid as I don't need them for anything anyways.

Just fyi, those jackets they were wearing can cost anywhere in the range of $50-$400 . . . Given that they were an adult size, it is likely they were at the very least over $100 . . . Now, If the kid was actually going to die, sure I would give a kid my jacket, however how do I know the kid is not just running some scam (MUCH MORE LIKELY), the chance of running in to a kid sitting at a bus stop in the snow claiming he is "lost" on a field trip and that his teacher told him to be somewhere and never came back is 1/1,000,000,000. EVERYBODY SUES. So why in the @#$% do you think a school doesn't go one step short of tying each kid to a long rope and leading them around like ducklings during a field trip?

I carry a remotely detonated explosive collar around just for such occasions. If I feel the need to "lend" something to someone, as a condition they must wear the collar, which is impossible to remove except by me.

If they fail to return said "lended" item after, say, 72 hours, I hit the switch, sending out the kill signal all around the globe via satellite.

Yes. After visiting Canada I'm pretty tolerant with cold weather so I wouldn't mind lending my jacket to someone in need.

Obviously I'd be against lending an expensive jacket unless I had some way of ensuring the person wouldn't run off with out it. The inexpensive ones I couldn't care less about.

Personally, I don't think someone would just ask for your jacket in good faith and then run away with it.

But then again, you never know, there are some people like that in the world. I'd like to believe most aren't though.

That sounds like a dream in the world we live in. And you're right. Even if someone kept the jacket they would probably buy a new one in a few years and forget/discard the old one.

Wouldn't moving the child away from the designated meeting spot, leaving the kid to get home by himself even more irresponsible?

If I were to take it off, I would be freezing. I'm quite susceptible to cold weather as it is, I don't need anyone else (let alone a kid) to take my jacket from me so that he feels warm and I don't. I wouldn't be wearing it if I didn't need it, now would I?

In this case, I'd have a hard time believing a teacher a told him to wait at an unheated bus stop for who knows how long in freezing conditions. It would make more sense for the teacher to tell him to wait inside a public building (such as a library, or even a police station) where it's warm. Heck, why didn't that teacher lend the kid his/her coat?

Of course I would lend or even give my jacket to a freezing kid. If he was poor I would gladly give it away. I can easily replace my clothing. Most of my jackets are probably worth less than$100 anyways. It's the same shit as donating to the Salvation Army lol. If he was lost I'd probably call the cops too.
