And yet again, my point has been proven. Episode 5 is where this show really started to show its true colors. This episode is just a way to reinforce how serious war really is.

I didn't image Himiko would take a bullet like that. Iit really shows how much she truly loves him and and is dedicated to the Oda clan.

War is a scary thing and this show is truly portraying that perfectly. Between all the politics and the action scenes this show may very well be the under dog best show of this season in my opinion.
You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.

I am confused by the reactions regarding Nobukatsu because he got off very peacefully. In real life Nobukatsu wanted to be the head of the clan and had fun time rebelling and conspiring with people to try and take down Nobunaga. However he eventually ran out of pardons and Nobunaga feigned being sick and killed him with his own hands. So in short, in the show he gets shot and there aren't a couple wasted episodes on stretching out conspiracies and making the "Death Toll" reach double digits.

This. I would have MAYBE enjoyed this more if I was ignorant of history....

My thoughts exactly, but in spite of that I am enjoying this for what it is I guess. As for the deaths (or apparent deaths) at the end, I'm not to sure how I feel about them. Himiko is probably one of the only reasons I made it past the episode she was introduced in, so I'm not to happy about that one. hopefully, like some one has already mentioned, her prominence in the OP means she's gonna be in this thing for the long run, and I also noticed that in the preview for the next episode they took great care not to reveal the fates of neither Nobukatsu or Himiko, so I can only hope for the best.

No, no, no, knowing history makes this show so much better. We all were wondering if Mitsuhide would betray Nobunaga, but the great irony is that he has now killed the two people who blocked Nobunaga's rise, and did so thinking he was helping Nobunaga. Talk about irony. And aren't you all a bit curious about how Toyotomi is going to factor into everything? Not to mention when Tokugawa joins Nobunaga with his regalia (what you say, well isn't it obvious that Nobunaga cannot defeat multiple Regalia holders on his own, so that means Hideyoshi and Tokugawa will eventually have theirs).

This show has used history as a wonderful framing device (similar to its use of Tarot cards), the more you know of both, the better you appreciate the show.

Both this episode and the last one was really dark
And trying to assassinate Nobu jeez the family is already separating
The tarot card was facing up yet still the outcome is bad
Mitsuhide turning into the bad bad guy for the sake of Nobu?!
So much conflict I can't wait for the next

I am not sure who you were talking about "... he has now killed the two people who blocked Nobunaga's rise," because the only person who was killed in the opposition of The Fool becoming the head of the clan was Nobukatsu, who seemed pretty flaky/hesitant about going down the road of war no matter what. I believe that is why he told Mitsuhide, alone in a tower many stories up in the sky before anyone else, that he would finally try to pursue taking power from his brother and lead the clan in a pacifistic way making Mitsuhide to think "... we live in a time of war, unless Nobu leads us, this hell cannot be tamed, I will follow the leader of hell and become a demon," or "We are on the brink of being invaded again if rebellion/civil war erupt, then the clan will die out. I gotta shoot'cha, sorryz. hope you liked that watch"

I believe the second person Takuan_Soho was referring to was Nobuhide. Albeit inadvertently, Mitsuhide did contribute to his death if not outright caused it by poisoning Nobunaga, and preventing him from going to the battlefield before his father had a chance to. However, with all the stuff that was going on during that battle, who's to say that Nobuhide wouldn't have entered the battle field regardless.

Oh, Mitsuhide.

I just realized the character designs are done by Kazuki Yone. D: I'm a big fan of her works for the Hakuouki franchise. I think I can understand now why I find the characters to be attractively nicely drawn.

Why Mitsuhide have to kill Nobukatsu Oda, really?

Because Nobu fucked up.

See, Nobu already had a bad rep before this ep, but his many achievements could have turned things around. Guy has been saving their collective asses and is the only one with a super cool robot.

Only, when his father's funeral comes he does, well, what he did. He loses what little trust he had earned. The advisers, who are utter morons, never liked him; so they sure as hell aren't happy they have to work for the guy now.

To most people, Nobukatsu looks like a far better choice.

Doesn't help that when one of the advisers tried to challenge Nobu to a sword match no one tried to stop him and no one felt like arresting him for "treason", because most people in that room agreed with him.

Nobukatsu needed to be removed in order for Nobu to rise. Without Nobukatsu there isn't an easy rallying point for the guys who don't want Nobu in charge.

Wow, was not expecting a double assassination to actually happen. Mitsuhide was right about the younger brother, trying to appease everyone and let him be manipulated and try to negotiate peace after all of that. Unfortunately the brother and those advisors need to wake up before they get killed...and Nobukatsu realized this too late.

This show had been going downhill for me, but this episode was amazingly well done, even before the assassinations at the end. Surprisingly well written. I hope the next few episodes slow down and let the dust settle before any serious action happens. Can't wait to see what direction this takes.

For those people complaining about how it doesn't follow history, no matter how you look at it this is not history nor does it appear to be attempting to imitate history to the letter. If anything, this should probably be interpreted more like the Assassin's Creed series, i.e. an alternate history/what if story. I mean obviously many of the characters that are inevitably going to meet in this series never had a chance to meet due to issues of the times. And as most of you know mechs certainly aren't a part of our history.

This show is just a play on history, where characters that happen to be similar in name, status, and personality to historical figures are all thrown into a single series. Just take Ranmaru/Jeanne d'Arc as an example... it's basically an alternative perspective of "If she was alive at the same time as Oda Nobunaga, maybe she was secretly Ranmaru, and Nobunaga didn't actually have homosexual tendencies and he was actually in bed with Joan of Arc".
There's still plenty yet to come, so I don't know what will happen in the end but with this episode I'm guessing this could be seen as something along the lines of "Maybe Nobukatsu was actually someone who truly respected his brother and it was all his advisors who conspired against him, whilst he was actually just tricking them and planning to let Oda rule later on... and MAYBE Mitsuhide didn't actually betray Nobunaga, but was technically helping him but still perceived as a traitor."

And of course, I don't know if the people saying Nobukatsu revolted know, but (I'm not claiming to know a ton about the "true history" here, so I could be wrong) at least according to Wikipedia yes yes, not the most credible source Nobukatsu wasn't even the name of his brother but was Nobunaga's son in real life (his brother was Nobuyuki)... so that might be something to consider.

In my opinion, this wouldn't be nearly as entertaining if everything that happens is how it "actually happened", because anyone with even the most remote ability to do a little research would know exactly what was going to happen. And it'd be like that horrible Romeo and Juliet remake that takes place in modern times and swords are actually just a brand name for guns. A tale already re-told as many times as this would be boring and unoriginal if it's just what everyone already knows down to the letter.

Anyway, I had a feeling the brother would die eventually, but it was still really sad when he did and seeing that he already understood as well as Himiko's death. Also I actually thought Himiko was running to save Nobukatsu there... and then it looked like Ranmaru/Jeanne was going to take the bullet for The Fool, so I didn't quite know what to expect there. This really sucks for Nobunaga, even if he probably didn't love her in a romantic sense, he just lost his father, brother, and betrothed practically all at once... I'm sure he's going to go through equally painful losses later on too...

What're the odds of both possible rulers of a clan (current, and wanted) being shot at by an assassin at the EXACT same moment, when they're far away from eachother?

Unless, of course, that didn't happen ,and the producers just fooled us to make us think only one shot happened.

whos to say they happen at the exact same moment, just cause we see them at the same time doesnt mean they happen at the same time

if you mean the likleyhood of this happening in the same day.....pretty fucking high actually, people in the oda clan want nobu dead before and now that hes become the next heir in line even more people want him dead as fast as possible, Mitsuhide realizes this which is why he killed nobu's brother alll of the sudden
