| Recently I've been picking subs more and more often. If there's a good dub available, I'll watch a few minutes in the dub and a few subbed... then if it's about the same, I'll watch it dubbed. I find that 99% of the time, however, I'm choosing subtitles over dub. Most of the time it's because I feel like the japanese voices match the characters better. |

| As an answer to the title, I think the "best dub possible" must be better than just a "solid JP voice acting", so I'll pick the dub. Not for any special reason, but because it is supposed to be better. It's not necessarily a matter of quality, I just can't make myself watch English dubs of non-English series/movies anymore, it's just wrong to me. That's why the characters' mouth movement doesn't even match whatever they're saying most of the time in anime. So what's the difference between it being Japanese, English, etc.? And about the culture - no. Not all anime are even based on Japan. So just because the language is changed it doesn't mean it has a negative effect on the the setting of the story nor culture of the show in general. In fact, it could even be a lot better with anime such as Cowboy Bebop - because it's set on a different planet that doesn't have any qualities of Japanese culture, from what I remember. Also, the show is filled with references to western media. So the original Japanese version make it more culturally inaccurate than an English version, contrary to what you dub-haters say. Cowboy Bebop makes homages to spaghetti westerns, Bruce Lee films, Blaxploitation films, Stanley Kubrick', among other things. Last I checked, none of those things are Japanese. I bet almost no Japanese person knew the reason for the coffin dragging scenes in Mushroom Mamba but was immediately recognized in the US as paying homage to Django and other spaghetti westerns. Watching Bebop in Japanese is like watching the Godfather in Hebrew. |

| I see that most people underestimate dubs. For instance, Cowboy Bebop's english dub is better than its original dub imho. So the best dub possible would be, at least, truly outstanding. But honestly, since the japanese one would be just as good, i'd go with both. |
| I watch Cowboy Bebop in Japanese because the voices seem more fitting and the acting is better a lot of the time. It has little to do with the language and culture. |
| Subs, definitely subs. The last english dub i've heard was from Kill Me Baby. And yes Kill Me Baby has a english dub and it's actually not that bad. |

| In general I prefer the sub over the English dub even if the English dub is good with the exceptions of Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Kai. Steve Blum's voice just fits Spike perfectly and he does an AMAZING JOB voicing Shishio in Rurouni Kenshin. When he says" burn in the fires of hell" it just sends shivers down my spine and I really liked how he voiced Shishio's screams when he was having his breakdown. Kenshin's voice is also better in the English dub than the Japanese version where he sounds like a little kid and I love how the English dub voice actors overemphasize when they pronounce the Japanese attacks. Imo by overemphasizing when pronouncing the Japanese attacks they make the attacks sound more badass. Even though I think the Japanese voice cast of Kai and DBZ are good especially Ryô Horikawa as Vegeta and Ryūsei Nakao as Frieza, Masako Nozawa's voice is too high pitched for adult Goku and adult Gohan. In the Goku vs Vegeta fight in the saiyan saga in Japanese Goku actually sounds like a hissing, screeching cat when charging the Kaioken. Sean Schemmel's voice is just way more suited for adult Goku than Masako Nozawa. |

OnT: Subbed, if it's not good as in the translation is bad and the voice acting is hentai level then I rather not watch at all. I became bit more tolerant to dubs than when I first watching anime seriously but I still don't feel like watching dub and there is no benefit for me in choosing dubs. Back then I could literally experience pain due to cringing if I attempt to watch something dubbed, at times I would even feel embarrassed hearing the English voices. |

It makes no sense for a Japanese song to play near the end of an American show, but English is an international language with much influence in Japan, so it's not as weird for English lyrics to play over Japanese dubs. |
| If the dub is really good I'll choose that, even though I do mostly watch anime subbed. As long as I can enjoy the anime I don't care if the characters speak Japanese or English |
