^I'm not sure what the Vampire showed Rock, but i doubt it's either one. Probably something much more disturbing...

Anyway, this was a fucked up arc, made me wonder if i had inserted a disc from a completely different anime as it doesn't really fit the Black Lagoon (action packed fun) criteria. It had an excellent ending though, i ended up feeling sorry for the brats.

Not a bad arc I suppose wasn't my favorite but still pretty entertaining. Wasn't expecting the girl (boy?) to get shot like that right off the boat but it would have been pretty bad to let a psycho like that go loose lol.

Why did you watch the arc all the way through again? Out of some sick fascination like you accuse others of being? You a masochist, seeing something that disturbs you? I don't understand why someone who would criticize these past eps as being crude and only for the "sick" would keep watching himself.

The answer to this is quite obvious. If I am to judge a show with fairness, I must have seen all of it. It was not easy but not watching till the end would be disrespectful and would discredit any criticism made.

gswelcome said:
Though I suppose it does allow you to criticize those who love this series, gives yourself a soapbox to look down on us and let us. Whatever. I find your objections silly, while this anime is just that, fake and rather outlandish at that, the real world is certainly just as dark as it makes it out to be. Unless you want to claim that children don't become as messed up as this? Or just that we should pretend that it doesn't happen at all?

PrinceHeir said:
don't mind him, he's like a sick masochist who enjoys tormenting others he himself watches the very same thing.

i don't get it, just drop the show and move on.

It is rather disturbing to be accused of being a condescending pervert. Do you not realize that you are both being condescending and insulting in doing so? Anyway, as I said before, I am expressing my opinion based on my analysis of the show. Its wrongs seemed dire enough for me to comment and issue a warning. If you disagree then please have some decency and say so without insulting me for thinking otherwise.
Do not fear darkness. A path of shadows can only end into the light.

Beautiful way to end this arc.

Well, I agree that this was tragic and stuff, but still...letting a psycho like that loose would have been worse. Balalaika was badass in this episode, no wonder nobody wants to mess with her. Only one thing I don't get - why did Black Lagoon take this job? It wouldn't be worth it to piss off the russians just over some brat even if they got paid.

It was mentioned in the first episode that the Black Lagoon company are pretty much delivery boys for hire and they'll take almost any job. And Balalaika probably didn't care that they took the job since she pretty much thought ahead and hired the guy to kill the remaining twin when they got there.

I don't think she had to be disformed for the whole scene to be disturbing. She is a little child and her way of showing gratitude is to let him sexualy abuse her or something like that. (at least that's what I got)
Overall a very emotional and cruel episode. At the end of the arc the siblings lost their supernatural, super-evil image and became just two very severely damaged children...In the end I felt just sorry for them even though at the beginning I wanted them killed. I think that's only because the last episode was cruely naturalistc...
p.s. the scene at the fountain was epic though...

I think this too. Most logical assumption anyway.
In the end I felt a lot of pity for them but I reckon they got put out of their misery. It would've been messed up if they kept living that way.

I have mixed feelings about this arc to be honest, it's hard to feel sympathy for children who are twisted psycho serial killers.

Still, a good message was told.

I truly felt sorry for the twins, they werent the ones to blame. Small kids can be pushed into any direction, they got raised this way and didnt knew anything else. They didnt even realize what death really is/means.

I can understand that Balalaika wanted revenge for her comrade but she did it the wrong way. How can killing kids satisfy the urge of getting revenge? Even more so if said kids didnt even realize what they did or that they are about to die and stop existing?
Mentally challenged people dont get the death penalty no matter what they did.

She should have killed the people who raised the twins and made them to what they became if she really wanted to get revenge.

I liked the insert/ending song. Black Lagoon is really good at sad songs that would fit as the ending of a really sad series. Black Lagoon is, despite the crime and violence, event this arc, quite upbeat through it's action and the comedic interaction, especially with Revy.

I also don't know why someone complained about the bad english pronouncitation in Black Lagoon in the first season..sure, sometimes it's noticable, but overall it's not bad. There are lot of anime with worse pronouncitation.

And then there are lot of native english speakers where you don't understand a word, either because of heavy dialect or because they just don't give a sh*t.

While I'm not a cold-hearted person who feels no sympathy for children... Let's be honest, children will eventually turn out to become people like Hitler, Mass Murderers, and criminals who go and rob from the weak for their own gain. If you saw a kid who looked so innocent but knew he/she would be the next hitler or mass murderer, would you still have sympathy over shooting him/her? Perhaps even torturing him/her?
I'm not saying it's okay for any of this happen and to torture children because they might be the next criminal... but I find it somewhat digusting (more so funny) that we find killing and torturing of children inhumane and digusting while war or torture between 30-50 year old veterans or newbies is acceptable and even likeable.
I felt no sympathy for those kids. Everything you do is your responsibility; no one else's. If you were tortured as a kid, you have a choice to do whatever yo wish that experience; to become the best person ever, or everyone's worst nightmare. Quite frankly, just how everyone takes pleasure in torturing criminals in movies... I enjoyed every last second of that twin getting sniped and bleeding out. Honestly, if they are old enough to kill and wield a weapon, they should have enough knowledge to know you can't live forever and one day, you will get hunted.

That's just ignorant. You don't have to feel sympathy for them, but you have to understand, you are no different from them. If you were to be placed in the same situations, if you've gone what they've been through, you wouldn't be any better.

To become a better person? What a childish joke. One you stepped into a swamp, you think you can get out only by yourself?

A simple rule seems so many people do not understand: Business is just business, nothing is personal. To make this clear, the writer even place that guy at the ender of the story to explain this, why he killed that girl/boy, because that's last one of his job, he does not need his credibility any more.

Feel pretty bad for the twins. They were dealt a bad hand and messed up beyond repair.I like the fact Rock did try to console the girl and made sure she knew not everything was darkness.I have a feeling the girl was the last one to die since rock kept saying her and he walked off disguested and pissed not because of a dudes junk but the fact that this kid being so young would do something like that shows that she proboly had awful things happen to her and rock felt it wasint fair. Sad end to a dam good arc. I like the fact rock said to leave her like that since now she can see the blue sky forever and the ending credits was a nice touch to show them at peace.

Even though I enjoyed every episode before this I proboly pick this as so far my favorite arc.

if I had to guess, it must've been castration.

If that's the case then that's pretty fucked up, yet plausible considering how they lived back in their younger years.... it would also explain some of the reasons why he could live on looking like his sister as well.

I just assumed he saw how easily the girl was giving herself up for him and the thought of that disgusted him. I'd imagine if he saw a castration he would be vomiting instead of being angry.

Best arc i've seen in any anime in ages...
The start of the second season started off very strongly with the two 'vampire twins'.
- the twins in the beginning were hatable killing machines, however by the end I really pitied them for what they have become due to their fked up past.
- anyone unfortunate enough to piss Balalaika off, will get the fken guillotine. This arc made Balalaika jump to the top of my favourite 'female' casts in any anime for her wits and "badassery".
11/10 for flawless execution of an episode.

to be fair, that was the most humane thing to do to her/him/it... wasn't human anymore, after all.. she said to rock all she did was kill. no one was nice to her. she just liked to kill. (ally or enemy it didn't matter).

first time i've seen revy actually hit the maternal instinct with rock though... that was protective and then some.

rock will learn, not everybody can be saved. most don't wanna be saved. it's the life they've always known, no matter how ****ed up it was.

the fact they tortured that "collector" long after he was dead was just 'normal' for them. (i did like the different ending as well)

Just read through the comments on this thread and it amazes me how many people are wondering "what did she show Rock that made him sick?". I think it was pretty obvious that the reason Rock got pissed/sick is because the first thing she wanted to reward him for being nice to her was sex. Just shows the fucked up childhood these twins had to go through.

This fucking episode was just bloddy awesome.

Balalaika showing her most crude and badass face, proving for once and for all that among the rest of the gang leaders in the city she is, by far, rhe most dangerous.

And those bloody twins have probable the most fucking tragic background i've seen so far in the series. I mean... come on... how tormented can a character be?
The conversation with rock was disturbing as hell, and the fate of the poor child almost brought me into tears...

How good can this series become?!

This show leans heavy on the nurture aspect of nurture and nature. Also, known as environment and genetics. The two factors that make us who we are. These twins were a product of their environment.

I find it sad that some find pleasure in their demise. They were molested, tortured , and forced to kill. Beat to the point were there pee was red (internal bleeding) and forced to make child pornography. They were never exposed to love and kindness. They became what they only knew. Those that controlled their environment were the true villains.

When it comes to Balalaika I find her quite disgusting. She spent a whole night watching videos of children being raped, including snuff films, as in the life of children were being snuffed out while being raped. Balalaika felt no pity for those children, and those disturbing videos had no impact on her psychological state. She's also a killer and bigger villain then those children IMO.

I believe when it comes to Rock's response to the girl showing him her privates had to do with a child sexually rewarding him for his kindness. He knew that that child had to go through some sick crap to respond in that manner. I believe it was the girl because he kept referring to her as a her after she exposed herself.

Overall I found it a good arc, but I fear that many people like this episode just because it was like really dark so it has to be good. I'm glad this is just an anime but it's a good lesson on how horrible people can treat other people and how it can affect them. It makes me angry that sh@t like this actually happens.
