I'm currently in the process of picking anime back up from my dropped list and giving them a second chance. So I ask you, what do you feel are the very best anime on my dropped list? There are plenty to choose from, so I will ask that you limit yourself to your top 5 picks. The more frequently an anime is suggested, the more likely am to pick it back up. I promise I will do my best to put my prejudices aside this time around. Here's the list. As there are so many anime on my dropped list, a shortcut method might be to: Go to the shared anime section on my page, order our shared anime by your ratings, find anime that you have given a high rating to but that I gave no rating to (I don't rate dropped anime), and finally check to see whether those anime are on my dropped list or not. It would also be greatly appreciated if you adjusted your suggestions based on my tastes, but if our tastes aren't compatible to begin with, then maybe it's best not to recommend me anything at all. My interests mainly lie in mature, serious, and action-oriented anime. Favorite genres include sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, music, and psychological. Least favorite genres include romance, slice of life, sports, and drama. If applicable, be sure to let me know if a show doesn't get good until a certain episode, arc, or season. Too often I have dropped something prematurely because I didn't know it was going to make a complete 180 turn halfway through the series and suddenly become good. |

FLCL is a great anime and it's short and sweet. I've only read the manga of Bakuman, Bleach and Dogs: Bullets and Carnage but the anime should be close to the manga (from what I've heard). |

Pick up: Air Gear Angel Beats! Bakuman. Black Rock Shooter OVA (it's only 1 episode) Blood-C (get the uncensored BD version) D.Gray-man Denpa Teki na Kanojo ef - a tale of memories El Cazador de la Bruja Ga-rei Zero Genshiken Hayate no Gotoku! Higurashi no naku Koro ni Hourou Musuko Kuroko no Basket Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Nabari no Ou Nana Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Speed Grapher Tegami Bachi Utawarerumono Zetsuen no Tempest Zettai Karen Children You have a lot of decent series on your dropped list... What made you drop them? And sorry there's more than 5 here, but those are the ones I think are worth the watch. There's something in each one that makes them worth it. Blood-C doesn't get good until after the halfway mark, and the ending is the biggest plot-twist I've probably ever seen. Bakuman's second and third seasons are way better than the first, and the same goes for Tegami Bachi. D.Gray-man really picks up halfway through. |

Kaze no Stigma Highschool of the dead Star Driver They're no masterpieces, but I found them enjoyable. |
5 main aspects I base my ratings on: 1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it? 2. Is it better than Breaking Bad? 3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it? 4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL? 5. Is it actually good? Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant... |

Higurashi no naku koro ni Jigoku Shoujo Katanagatari I'd also suggest Chihayafuru, Spice and Wolf, Princess Tutu and Kaleido Star but they don't seem to fit with your taste. |

Thanks all, and of course more recs are always welcome. Looks like Madoka Magica, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Higurashi will be first in line as they are were recommended quite frequently and because they interest me a bit more than the rest. I'm considering a few of the others that were recommended, but I'll wait for more recs before I decide to watch those. Gundam 00 is a distinct possibility, I suspect this is one of the better Gundam series on my dropped list, I will probably give this one another go. I'm a bit hesitant to pick back up stuff like Highschool of the Dead, Elfen Lied, and Angel Beats, but I will consider them only because they were recommended so often. I think I'll need some extra persuasion on these ones though... |

Mirai Nikki, Soul Eater, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Sword Art Online and Angel Beats! A couple notes: Soul Eater's ending is real bad. Sword Art Online's 2nd half is definitely not as good as the 1st half, especially in terms of animation. |

.hack//SIGN is a personal favorite but while it's very slow, it's pretty amazing and unique, if you feel like watching something different, especially how it stands from all the virtual world anime, try giving it a chance FLCL is a classic, it might be super weird and all but just don't take it too much from face value, enjoy the ride and all the show's «meaning» will come out naturally. Was a 5 for me first watch, 9 after rewatch Galaxy Express 999 is amazing and seems fitting to your tastes, yeah it's really long but it never feels stale, you get a lot of variety during the several arcs Kaleido Star may not seem fitting to your tastes but it's pretty amazing, it doesn't feel like a «sport» series or even a shoujo series for that matter, it's basically the female equivalent of Hajime no Ippo imo, which you did like. Katanagatari is super amazing, it may seem formulaic but it has a lot of twists, kinda feels like a hommage to shounen in a way, a «Thinking man's dragonball». First episode does take a lot of time of explaining the setting so you may not be into it by that time but it really does get intense Mysterious Cities of Gold is a great retro adventure series, overall fitting to your tastes Kenshin just skip the anime's fillers, overall a pretty influential shounen, it did bring to the table a lot of elements that eventually became clichés Also I agree that you must not pick up Elfen Lied again, if you're already convinced about how shitty it is well it doesn't get any better at all |

Looks like I will put Katanagatari and FLCL second in line. These are at least short enough that I can force my way through if I have to. First in line is still Madoka Magica, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Higurashi. I'm also considering Nana, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Gintama. I'm gonna look more into these right now, maybe I went into them with the wrong mindset. @Tarextherex - I will consider watching more of Galaxy Express 999, I mainly dropped that one due to its length, seemed like classic Leiji though. I might also watch more of .hack//SIGN as that one seems to pop to me for some reason. I watched at least half of Mysterious Cities of Gold, never could get into that one though; it had an interesting enough premise, but the execution just wasn't cutting it for me. Rurouni Kenshin I will consider. Romario3210 said: Haha, how could you have missed it?! Yeah, I have a bad habit of being quick to prejudge. You stated on your profile that you don't like it if it's heavy on romance and drama, so as much as I love it, Nana might not be such a good idea. But you should definitely give a chance to the rest, especially Utena and FLCL. I don't know why you dropped Bakemonogatari, but that shit is great as well, and we have a pretty good compatibility, so you might like it too. Or don't. :) Dunky said: I'm a bit hesitant to pick back up stuff like Highschool of the Dead, Elfen Lied, and Angel Beats, but I will consider them only because they were recommended so often. Oh if you're considering to have Penguindrum first in line you might want to watch Utena before it since it might get you to enjoy Penguindrum more due the various Utena references it has. I wasn't really into romance or the like myself but Utena blew me away, truly the «evangelion of shoujo» as they say. To enjoy it fully you really need to not take too much things at face value since it got tons of symbolism, and you need to stay interested even during the «filler» episodes since as silly/wtf as it may seem, pretty much everything in this anime has a purpose. Penguindrum is very similar except it's ending isn't as good and didn't feel like it really had an important theme, in opposite to Utena which was about adolescence in general. Actually it's still okay to watch Penguindrum first but just wanted to remind you that if you do manage to get through Penguindrum, no matter what's your thoughts about it don't count Utena out. |
