After how many series/episodes would you consider someone an "experienced" anime fan?

I think 200 series (around 5000 episodes) is a pretty good number. Completing 100 series is not that uncommon since there is enough variety to keep you interested but it would take some dedication and consistency to reach the milestone of 200 series.

Probably around 150 or so, though it doesn't really matter as long as you know your anime and tastes.

I've seen more than 300 anime and still think I'm novice in anime world.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

Depends more on what they've seen more than how much. How much comes into it too - but if they've seen only x or y type of shows and don't have a very well rounded amount of every genre then they aren't an experienced fan at all.

You could see 300 shounen and you would be an experienced SHOUNEN fan - but not an experienced ANIME fan. To know anime you have to see a large number of it from every style, genre, demographic, and both the bad and good to actually be 'experienced'. Anime is not one or two types of shows, so to be experienced as an anime fan overall you need a lot of experience with all anime has to offer.

So the number is relevant because having experience with something is kind of, obviously, a big aspect of being experienced with it - but just as important is the actual titles they've seen.

1000+ series to really be an expert. If we would say that everyone who watch 200+ is an anime expert than half of mal would be considered experts.

The relevant number isn't how many anime you've seen, it's what score you gave Inferno Cop.

OP asked about being experienced - not being an expert.

I have no idea on how much series you have to watch to be considered as an anime expert, but I'm sure you can't tell that by the amount of episdoes someone watched, you really can't.Someone who watched all epidoes of one piece, naruto and bleach which is the insane amount of over 1000 episodes can't be considered as an anime expert, because battle shounen is just 1 genre.
It's insane how awesome Fate/Zero is.

How can anime experience be measured? In number of episodes? Or in ratings given to shows? Or maybe in virgin years? There surely exists some elaborate formula that combines all these factors.

My mistake I misunderstood the question. In that case a agree with the majority 150-200.

1. If you've watched even one anime, you've experienced it. Thus you are experienced.

Everything above that makes you more experienced, of course. But there's no magic threshold.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Its one thing to be watching a number of anime in your lifetime and being an anime veteran.
You could watch 10 different anime series and be able to entitle yourself experienced.

Its mainly about making others call it on their own accord. (◕〝◕)
We're debating about standards we want to be set so that others who did not put the same absurd amount of sad days we delved anime could be put to shame, for no good reason by the way.
~sigh~A fool could watch 300 anime series and barely get the plot of it, yet a brilliant person could watch a couple, and be able to infer far better ideas/points.
My standpoint 10> genres completed (much better rewatched) is already experienced

i think that experience comes with variety.
For example someone who has watched about 200 series of similar genres, I don't consider them experienced.

I believe that once you understand anime in general then you can call yourself an experienced fan.
and 200 series would suffice i believe.

I usually measure "experience" by day-count nowadays. I would probably go with 80+ days in that case. As for myself, I won't consider myself to be experienced until I hit the century mark (100 days).

This too. Exactly why I keep my range wide open, whether its something painstakingly slow or blistering fast, funny or serious, geared for males or females, showing or telling, simple or philosophical... the list goes on.

300, probably. It's not even particularly hard to reach that number. About a year or two of active watching.

I'd consider one to be an expert once they're nearing the 1000 mark.

I'd say that you'd have to watch 20-30 titles from every genre. I've seen people's lists that are in their hundreds that solely consist of shounen or ecchi harem anime, they can't be classified as an experienced anime fan, but a fan of a specific genre.

More than 1500 anime? Daaaaaaamn.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...
