This show was great, i would like to see more romances following its formula. great characters, great animation, great feeling, not taking itself too seriously. just lighthearted, feelgood anime.

my only rant would be the way everybody sorta forgave Hanadate, the guy who killed his mother and Zakuro's dad-in a way-and wanted to get down and dirty with his sister. that and the censored kiss--c'mon studio people, that was trolling!

Nice ending for a good show.
I'm giving a 7/10 because there were some stuffs I didn't liked in episodes 12 and 13.
I can't believe that they didn't showed the kiss, I was waiting for it just to see it censored. I also didn't liked that they showed Omodaka in the end, but oh well.

A really satisfying end to an enjoyable anime; couldn't have asked for more.

The good points of this show:
* A decent story which doesn't suck
* Near perfect depiction of a girl who doesn't grok romance ;-)
* Comedy sequences which don't seem forced

A few not so good points:
* Repeating the same "I'm not strong enough to protect you" thing over and over again. Should this come as a surprise given that they are mere humans?

A 8/10 from me.

After 13 episodes, the anime hasn't improved one bit. My comments from the episode 1 discussion is still exactly how I feel about this disgraceful anime.

Adding to that, the romance was done very poorly. The story and action weren't too bad, but they definitely don't make up for the other features. It's definitely my worst anime of this season, my second worst anime of the year, and the third worst TV series I have ever seen. My final rating is a 2/10.

Curious, what exactly is your expectation of a "romance" done right? I know this anime isn't the next best thing since sliced bread but 2/10?

So it ends huh? I'm really going to miss this. But I wasn't disappointed in the last episode. I'm glad that Byakuroku is not dead, but sad to see Daidai died. And the fight between Rangui and Zakuro turned out really good.
I'm really sad to see this end. It would be nice if its longer, but that's okay. I think that 13 episodes is quite enough. 9/10.

It is sad that on other forums the discussion about this show was more about the lack of jiggle-wiggle and panty shots than the characters and plot. It would have been out of place in the setting imo, and frankly that content is more than abundantly displayed in many other shows.

It was a nice little series and I enjoyed it.

Thank GOD there wasn't any "jiggle-wiggling and panty/boob/bra shots". I'm fed up of anime production companies who have this belief that every single person enjoys the fanservice. Sometimes I feel as though they forgot that their audience isn't only comprised of male viewers. I see less and less shows catered to girls...I mean, why no "boxer shots"??? why no handsome male "flexing his stuff"??? lol but seriously, less/no ecchi equals more enjoyment!

Yeah, I was kind of surprised that they had that for this show. If they're going to do something like that it makes you they had something more planned.

Thats the thing. But they are never satisfied regardless. If there are 100 anime coming out every year, at least 50 of those anime will be ecchi genre, or mild ecchi.

As much as I can understand your fantasies being a female fan, that would be a major no no for me. lol. And no, your take on male fans is wrong. I watch more shoujo anime than many female fans out there, and also no, I watch them for no other reason but the stories that come with those shows, which are generally speaking, usually seems way better to me. And I have many friends who enjoy quality shows more over the ones based on fan services. And no, I am talking about the male friends I know. ;)

the recent outburst over the law in anime/manga decency shows it all. as for my take on ecchi shows, I watch ecchi too. Like Ranma 1/2 from the old days, like Midori no Hibi and Hatsukoi Limited, or most recent Hyakka Ryuoran: Samurai Girls. But not because of the genre ecchi, but the comedy and romance that come along with those shows.

See. Thats what I wanted to say. They spent surprisingly abundantly for an anime that they wouldn't otherwise think profitable.

Anyways, the good news is, the sell of the DVDs is going better than expected and fans reaction at the ending of the anime got a bit boost for the anime itself. We just never know and a season 2 might be on the cards if things keep on going for the better, and as I read from Underwater blogspot, the first volume of DVDs sold more than 3000 copies.

On a side note, did anyone else notice the surprisingly dip in the animation of the final segment of this episode. Watch the way the hands and even faces are drawn (no, I am not talking about the chibi scenes but the ones in between, like Susukihotaru blushing when Chu no Agemaki (LMAO) was revealed). This shows it wasn't probably in the original plan of the anime and they just wanted to pull a happily-ever-after ending. I could be wrong, but the more I watch the final segment, the more I think I just might be right.

Well, I still retain my opinion that this was the best anime of this season. But really now, the ending disappointed me. It turned out to be a small soap-opera. The action in this episode was a good addition but it's structure was stereotypical. All in all, the anime was good, liked every episode and hey, Agemaki and Zakuro even kissed xD
As of a score, I scored it with an 8/10 :D

Nodame S1. While I did say that the romance aspect was done poorly in this anime, that wasn't the main reason for my low rating. The main downfall would definitely be the characters, and the terrible attempts at comedy.

It was a fun watch. Some drama, some action, a bit climactic, and a whole lot of romance. Otome Yokai Zakuro was all the more fun to watch these past 13 weeks. It's sad to say it's over, but being an anime I only glimpsed, and still dedicated myself to watch, I think it was worth the effort. A solid 8/10 is an appropriate score for this show. A pretty emotional ending, even though it basically amounts to a reset of the story. Sure some secrets are revealed; bonds are stronger, deeper; but this essentially allows Spirit Affairs to start on a whole new set of adventures. And if that does come true then I'll be happy to watch them. This has been a surprisingly entertaining series.

This show is my favorite of this season. I love the characters, the story, the atmosphere, the romance, and especially the art! The ending was satisfying, tying up the major plot lines in tight little ribbons. Leaving it open for a potential 2nd season was done well. This goes into my top 5 of all time and the "to buy" list.

Nodame S1. While I did say that the romance aspect was done poorly in this anime, that wasn't the main reason for my low rating. The main downfall would definitely be the characters, and the terrible attempts at comedy.

Well, the hug in Nodame S1 was good romance, but there was so little build up to it in terms of Chiaki's personality that it was a little surprising. I found this romantic storyline very strong.

As for your dislike of it, everyone has their own likes and dislikes. But if you disliked it so, why did you watch all the way to the end? If I don't like something as much as you claim to, I don't subject myself to it.

I didn't find the story to have too much cliche or think it was to predictable, unlike other reviewers. Then again, I am usually not as bothered by cliches and tropes as other people, and I can count on one hand the number of movies I have seen in my life that I was not able to predict the ending, so predictability is something I expect. When I am surprised by a story, I am very happy, but most stories have predictable outcomes. But I was pleasantly surprised in spots by this show and felt that the characters had a reasonable amount of non traditional aspects to their personalities. (Kei's laying on the charm to cover for his personal inadequacies was one nice touch, and I liked the fact that he relied on that less and less as the season progressed.)

Still it was a pretty good episode it had everything.
It was obvious that the soldiers would come back but that Zakuro and Agamaki would get teased was fun to watch.
I wonder what happened to all those Half Spirits that Daidai released tho nothing was mentioned about them.

This Anime was the biggest surprise this season and it was really enjoying to watch.
Shame it's only 13 episodes would have definitely wanted to see more of this.

Yeah pretty much this. I wanted a better ending but it was ok i guess. Definitely expected a lot less that what i got so am quite pleased with this show.

the part where the house burn then every1 fighting the widow, and then omodaka just gave up on zakuro... o,o ... seriously that felt very forced... probably because producer didnt spent enough effort on how they present it...

anyway, i really like the romance part, it is probably the best part of this anime o,o

I can understand how some people might not greatly like this anime

I'm personally a sucker for Romance anime, and ancient cultures, and mythology. Whether it's German or Irish or Japanese or South Korean or Russian. So while I definitely have some criticism about it, I still enjoyed it enough nonetheless. I can't hate any anime that manages to make me cry on a constant basis. It also makes me really want to pick back up Japanese Mythology and old Japan related things. And makes me wondered how I ever got away from doing things like this on a constant basis. I want to play Okami again now, and have picked up the Pocky and Rocky series again thanks to this anime.

Well, I suppose there's someone to hate every anime out there, isn't there?

Just quickly finished watching eps 7-13. This show was really bad: full of cliches and awful "plot twists" (quotes because they weren't really surprises) and timing. The only thing it had going for it was nice art and animation, but that didn't really change things in the end because the quality was variable at times. Oh, and Sakurai Takahiro.

3/10 overall.

Could've been an interesting anime about folklore and traditions but it got spoiled by dull and predictable romance, cheezy melodrama and a bunch of irritating side characters with no common sense at all that were there for comic reliefs.
Only the flashbacks were interesting and more mature, but that wasn't enough to save the series.

Well, there were good things and there were bad things about this anime.
As for the bad things, one of the worst things was probably the "ohai I'm the bad guy, my past was so tragic so I'm doing everything for revenge, boohoo."
Speaking of the bad guy, is it bad if I realized that he was the main bad guy as soon as I saw him in ep1?
Didn't particularly like the art either, and the only characters I cared more than nothing for were Bonbori/Hoozuki, Zakuro and the pumpkin kids. (Oh how fucking awesome them pumpkin kids were.)
Other than that, I liked the setting. Too bad the plot could've been better.
Oh and, the cheesy drama at times was like... meh.

But overall, this is still worth a 7/10, or maybe even an 8/10. Probably just a 7 though.

So, what to watch now? Guess I'll go watch Break Blade next.
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.

@Oosran - yo I thought Hanadate always looked kinda evil since the beginning too lol. Hot but sinister.
What gave it away was when he was spotted with the Black Widow in i've-forgotten-the-ep but it's the one where he gets stuck in the web.
Come to think of it...why was he stuck in her web when he's the Village Oracles Chief??!

Anyway, giving this a 6/10. Character development was too rushed at the end, and the saving aspects are the battle song/chant and the children. Oh the lovelies~
Susukihotaru x Riken was precious.
