THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
They just had to go and fuck up the Vanilla Ice fight, which was one of my favorites of the manga, didn't they? And, things were going well for this OVA too.

Iggy's dead, Avdol's dead again! smh and how the hell r they gonna beat Dio's power? I hope we'll see Joseph use hamon. Its a wierd power system but it still seems useful. I'd hate for it to be totally disregarded after two arcs worth of heroes relying on this ability.
Love and Peace!!!

Yeah I didn't like the fight with Vanilla Ice either. I understand it's an OVA and all, but this episode was too rushed and just plain bad

IGGGGGYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!

Also Abdul! but I don't realize he's dead yet, it was so sudden. Plus he came back before.

I haven't read the manga but I thought the fight was alright, with a good alternance of tense and action moments. I understand critics about what has been cut, but I feel director Kitakubo is still on the top of his game.

I know it's an ova and there was more freedom for violence, but DAMN Abdul and Iggy got it way worse than in the tv version!

Now with the dio fight we're getting to the creative liberties, but as with the previous ova, all the end results are the same, just with different leading events. I have to say I'm still greatly enjoying it, since even though I know what's gonna happen it still feels new because of all the differences from the manga.

Can't wait for next episode where the DIO fight really begins.

Thought the fight with Vanilla Ice was done way better in the 2015 version (it is my favourite fight of SC). This was rushed, the deaths were not nearly as impactful and Iggy's death was too cheesy (they should not have included that music). Fortunately, this had cool moments with Dio and they worked around Kakyoin not being introduced earlier and the party not being split up well.
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

Surprised me when Vanilla Ice killed Iggy so suddenly. Of course they just had to make his death more brutal.

A total botch-job of the Vanilla Ice fight and the death of Advol as well. whilst entreating in its own right, the fight with Vanilla I.. "Iced" rather, was sorely lacking compared to the epic struggle in the manga. Another thing to note, I actually felt worse for Iggy in this version. Since we didn't hear his internal thoughts, all Iggy was presented as was this cute, yet sassy coffee-flavored gum loving dog. That and the fact his death was noticeably more over-the-top, left me truly feeling sorry for that adorable little shit.

The Vanilla Ice fight is my favourite fight in Stardust Crusaders, and one of my favourite fights in all of JoJo's period (I never worked it out in my head mind you, but top five almost certainly), so it figures this would be the fight that suffers the most. Both the N'Doul & D'Arby fights were done really well here, I didn't expect the OVA version to top the anime version of the fight but damn I expected it to at least be the focal point of the episode. It felt like an after thought compared to the DIO stuff, most of the strategy from the fight was out-right removed (the only bit of strategy used here was Polnareff used the water from the fountain to track Cream's movements, a good way to incorporate that bit without using Iggy) and the terror element was diminished due meshing this with all DIO power build-up. Avdol & Iggy's death were more brutal, I damn near jumped when Vanilla Ice sliced Iggy in half. Can't believe someone went more brutal on a dog than Araki.

Either way, it was definitely interested to see how they had to adapt this with the limited episode count. Losing the other D'Arby fight, not having enough time to separate the DIO build or introduce Nukesaku, made this pretty interesting to watch. Obviously I don't think it's anywhere as good as the original, but I find it compelling to see how they still incorporated iconic moments while twisting the narrative, like DIO saving Vanilla Ice in front of the Stardust Crusaders, Jotaro being the one falling to his stairs trick, Avdol being in the casket (and also making that the debut of Vanilla Ice), Kakyoin's re-introduction to the story. It was all pretty cool to see.

Damn PETA wouldn’t have liked this episode.

I felt really bad for Polnareff when he was about to die, resigned to death and crying. Iggi saving him was pretty amazing, but damn Iggi went in such a tragic way. Instant death woulda been one thing but he sorta stayed alive suffering for a bit.

And Avdol. My gosh, this is his second death so far lol. He survived the bullet to the head, which was good, but now he’s in another dimension and the Stand user behind it is dead. Good luck getting out of this one Avdol (although I hope he’s revealed -- again — to be alive).

Still don’t know wtf DIO’s Stand ability is. I just know he can teleport. (And he's also a "vampire", technically, most likely behind the parasitic brain control tentacles.) And I don’t know if it was DIO or his subordinate was responsible for putting Avdol in the coffin either. I know Vanilla Ice transported Avdol away, but how he got inside the coffin itself is beyond me.

Cool episode though. As usual, I’m enjoying these OVA”s very much.

This episode took many of the best elements of Stardust Crusaders which were introduced separately, and introduced them all at once. Vanilla Ice's introduction and attack, Dio's reveal, the staircase and peace of mind discussion, etc. It felt convoluted, a failure to live up to potential due to trying to do too much.

With that said, as a fan of the work, seeing this hot pot of rearranged material was interesting. As much as I can say this was questionable, it made me feel like I was watching the series blind again. The variables entering Dio's mansion were entirely different from the original and when it worked, it worked! The realization that it was Avdol opening the coffin sent shivers through my body and when Vanilla Ice came down I was shocked. Iggy's death, while the fight and the emotion behind it not, is actually preferred to the original for me. I love the brutal, near instant death of Stardust Crusaders. It evokes a deep sense of human frailty, yet also the purpose and a meaning behind it and the beauty of brotherhood. Iggy getting the most horrifying death imaginable, and seeing Polnareff limp towards his comrade's torn apart corpse was grotesque and tragic and horrific. Oh and Kakyoin's reintroduction was the cheesiest thing I've ever seen and I was laughing and cheering the whole time.

So was this actually bad? According to my criteria about reinterpretations for adaptation, it did its job.

They've arrived.
WTF happened to Iggy's face?
Mrs. Joestar.
Holy is talking but not conscious?
DIO's coffin.
The coffin is open.
Oh shit! Avdol is in the coffin?
DIO!
OH SHIT! AVDOL IS DEAD!
A man's head appears.
Vanilla? Vanilla Ice.

Damn. Avdol and Iggy died. The gore was great. This is what I love to see.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

I was not expecting that scene with Iggy to be so graphic, compared to the new anime. Dio and Vanilla Ice look cool as fuck though I'm excited for the rest.
