Do you secretly look forward to fanservice? Even if a series doesn't appear to be fanservicey do you hope there's at least a little fanservice, like even a beach episode?

Nah. Doesn't actively put me off unless it's particularly egregious, though it usually adds very little value and I tend to think less of a show if it's loaded with it

not secretly. i like fanservice and it's always a welcome surprise when it happens in an unexpected place, there's quite a few series i never expencted fanservice, but there's also series with nudity as well that i didn't see it coming.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Secret? Not really. Look forward? Barely since most is just not very enticing. It is rare to be actually sexy it just is aesthetically pleasing except in cases of being intrusive to a scene.

More like I always secretly pray there is no fanservice in the anime I'm watching.

Because where there is one, it's usually a sign that the anime is mediocre.

There's no reason to. Anime fan service is boring, seeing girls in bikinis on a beach in anime is not interesting. If it was live action, maybe, but on a beach who cares?
Seeing underwear.. well it's usually some schoolgirl undressing or something, not interesting.
Gigantic watermelon boobs.. I don't see the appeal, it looks ugly.
Very few fan service interests me, it's repetitive, I don't look forward to it.

Depends I don’t like fanservice if it breaks the nature of the anime( serious fight with buildup to pan to a pantyshot) or if the fanservice does devolve some character progression we got or the fanservice is happening without agency from the female( or male) perspective. If I want any of those I have my ecchi shows. Beach episodes can work good if build into plot ( like in school romance) but most of the time it just feels like a lazy attempt to gain a week extra before they animate fights etc. if the fanservice is good and helps developing story/character I look forward to it. A favourite example of mine for good use is „A Kite“( I know mal list it as hentai but imo it’s not even close)
Don't mind me, just vibing here ^_^

If a story doesn't serve the fans in any way, then the writers cannot consider themselves fans of their own work. Then it is just factory work to churn out stories that not even the writers would want their name on.

Fanfic is purely fanservice as it serves the fan who wrote it, so of course I look forward to official works having fanservice such as: character team-ups, characters having a serious fight, new character designs or clothing or really anything developed that operates under the rule of cool ex. Tenchi Muyo! originally has Ryoko wield a lightsaber made from an energy crystal that hovered over her wrist and she destroyed the entire school with massive explosions in her attempt to kill Tenchi. Emotional fanservice is welcome if it progresses naturally. Visual fanservice is welcome anywhere.

Yeah, the usual tropes of anime fanservice are largely not my thing.

I mean, of course I like seeing attractive people. Who doesn't.

But the exact ways it's done can be hit or miss. Like, take swimsuit episodes for example. Sure, I like seeing attractive characters people in swimwear. But exactly what they're doing, and how the camera is pointed, affects how much I like it. I like sleek bodies doing cool things, but if the camera is oddly focused on someone's giant bouncy boobs, then that just annoys me, because I don't like giant boobs.

Doubly so if the show writes a character to be jealous of the giant boobs. That's just stupid; as they say, "flat is justice". Sleek, well-toned bodies are so much nicer.

That's a funny thing because, if you think about it- a nice looking girl with a nearly flat chest who comes out the changing hut with no bathing suit on- walks out on the beach naked, would instantly get way more attention than the curvy woman with the giant watermelon tits in a bikini.
The point of this analogy, anime keeps dishing out the same old thing, and it's not interesting anymore.

@SuperAdventure Well, there genuinely are some people who would prefer the "watermelon tits", and so there's an audience for it, I guess. But yeah, I agree with that expectation.

I don't really think about fan service as the main point of an anime as long as the fan service is appropriate and doesn't spoil the story. I don't really like anime that have fan service that looks forced so that it makes the anime look weird.

I typically don't mind fanservice...and sometimes I like it. Just as long as it doesn't ruin important moments or gets in the way of development.

But I don't hide my love for stuff like OPs playing in the end of the anime, returns of old characters, references and such, this kind of fanservice is something I look forward to
