Tbh, weather can definitely affect a race especially the tires.

No wonder we got some background storytelling this episode and it wasn't a pleasant one. On the other hand, this episode did enforce the realistic point of view into their industry.

Under the conditions of heavy fking rain and low visibility, what the organizer needed to do in this episode was abandon the race before someone got injured or before the accident occurred.

This goes to show just how dangerous this sport is, especially in these stormy weather conditions. Not only is the track slick, but visibility is reduced. Looks like Satsuki will live, but he probably won't be racing again anytime soon. Somebody should have checked the weather before deciding to hold this race. At least Kouya did the right thing seeing that this is something that nobody wants to see, but in any case that was brutal, and even more so with the bad memories that came back.

Wet weather just ramps the danger up to the extreme its bloody stupid to stay out on slicks as you would have no control what so ever,That crash at the end was inevitable

You could put Max Verstappen in his Redbull F1 car up against a field of F4 cars and even then he wouldn't maintain a a lead on a track this wet on slicks while the others are on rain tires. Also is this actually real in Japanese F4 that you can't change tires in changing weather? If yes what the hell have the organizers been smoking? This would be such a huge and needless safety hazzard.

Other than that massive blunder (I get the story reasons but it's honestly BS) Overtake remains a suprisingly detailed and geniune love letter to open wheel racing and I am loving it.

Yeah there's just no racing on slicks in such a downpour... then again, idk if F4 uses intermediates, but still - not switching to wets is just... bonkers.

5/5 episode again, all things considered. Despite the timeskip having a bit of a whiplash effect at the beginning, it was easy to settle back in again. All the research Kouya does in the background, the excitement turning into fear for the life of a precious someone, Haru actually just calling him Kouya???? What even! Even Kouta addressing him as Kouya-chan. They've gotten real chummy there. And then all the signs of his dad's good luck charm basically actively shielding him from misfortune, which he recognises - incredibly well done. With the post-accident scenes - there's a reason for what's common practice: no replay of the accident until the driver's actually confirmed to be safe and sound... Perfect soundtrack throughout the episode again as well; and of course the details: the weather radar screen, the raindrops, just the way the drivers sit in the cockpit (dare I say, some practically official camera angles, even), the car details again like the indentations on the tires.... A+ all around. Only thing I didn't like was the craptastic ground textures during the race that made me feel like I'm playing a decades-old game, it's weird that that should be an issue.

Also, just how many sponsors does this series have? Actual big-ass brands plastered everywhere, Coca-Coal, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Panasonic, last week Fuji, now Suzuka actual tracks, and I think I even forget a few... Kinda incredible, it's not something we often see. The only thing that didn't match was the Win10 desktop on Kouya's laptop with the Apple keyboard. And ofc Mauchly and YouMotion. xD

Rain always is a hurdle in sports, and they portrayed it in this episode. The protagonist regains his activity as a photographer along with a rational advice to Haruka which is to not gamble your life through dangerous weather.

Expected that at least one out of the three would crash. Tf were they expecting to use slick tires when it was raining that bad, not like they could drift with an F4 car. Other than that blunder, it is good to see the main character keeping it safe and not risking it all. Plus got to see the PTSD kicking in again, will see how it will be resolved in the future. Overall, enjoyed it greatly.

It feels like both Haruka and Madoka learned something important in this episode. It's really nice to see how they clash and influence each other to improve as people and face traumas and beliefs that may hold them back in life.

LMAO! Even in anime, the FIA is not doing their job properly. Should have been a yellow flag or even a red flag after the first incident.

I don't think you can do pit stops in F4 hence they had to gamble in either going into wets or the slicks for the entiriety of the race.

Red flag should been declared even before MC retired. The moment when even the leader in the clean air barely even see track is proving enough.

Suzuka with rain, remind me of GOATifi missjudge where the final chicane and blaming the car is gold, having this reference in this episode would be wild af.

Seems like the case with Haruka's dad was handled poorly by the marshals. I thought they would get enough time to free him from the car before it gets burned, or at least got something to extinguish it sooner.

With the helpful insight and insistence of kouya, haruka didn't do any mistakes which could endanger his life and this episode really shows how external environments affect any race/sports, and you should always prioritize your safety over winning.

Probably the best episode so far. Haru’s move into turn one was excellent, but changeable conditions making it hard to judge. If these were pros in F1, you gotta keep going, but it takes stones for a racer, even at their age, to step back and say, “this situation is too dangerous for me.”

Should have went with the wet tires because you can't predict what mother nature is going to do out there. I'm surprised there wasn't a yellow flag after the first collision or at least postponed the race when the rain picked up. I'm glad Haruka didn't force the issue and decided to retire from the race otherwise he would've crashed like Satsuki did. It looks like Satsuki is going to be okay, but he might be dealing with a concussion so he'll be out for a couple of weeks putting Belsorriso in a tough spot.

Thank goodness that Koya had an influence on Haruka otherwise he may never had decided to pull over. Regarding Satsuki, I thought oh crap when he hit the car in front of him and spun out but I figured he was ok until he got t-boned then I was like oh damn! The look of trauma in his eyes appears to have affected Koya too. I wonder how long Satsuki will be out.

Whole episode is a massive red flag for Haruka, was waiting for his eventual crash but thank god he remembered Kouya's words and played it safe when his life is at stake.

And then Satsuki's crash happened OOOFFFF, what a rollercoaster of an episode

Also TIL there's no tyre pitstops in F4

Writing wise, it did feel too soon for Kou to be over his trauma and happy go lucky all of a sudden, though unsure why he feels the need to capture the most dramatic scenes on camera, leading reasons they try to obscure / block scenes of incidents during some racing series.

Also was glad Kou was the voice of reasons, no one else on Komaki wanted to voice that they felt the same fear and anxiety over Haru racing on slicks on rain.

While racing in the rain is not unprecedented, the organizer should have threw the flag just because visibility became incredibly low.

Quite an intense episode. I loved the first person angles!

Really interesting to see the rules of F4 concerning weather. I don't know a lot about this sport, but I'm suprised they keep a race going under dangerous circumstances. They're not even forcing participants to use rain tires.

I hope Harunaga is okay, he's my favorite from the show! But even though the crash looked terrifying, I don't think anything too concerning (like crashing into a wall, catching fire, car flipping upside down) happend. Perhaps Madoka took a greater hit than Harunaga himself, being traumatized once again.

I also wonder why Belsorriso didn't have Tokumaru use rain tires. That way they'd have the best chance of winning no matter how the weather changes. I wish this was explained better.

Ngl, leaving the absurdity of running with slicks in those conditions aside, the crash at the end was gut-wrenching. It could have ended like Anthoine Hubert's 2019 Spa accident and I was not ready to see a kid die. He's probably in shock or concussed, but something like that should never be let to happen by race direction.

I think no vehicles could race that hard with slicks during rain though with the exception of Brad Binder but Lando Norris can't even keep up his car during the rain at the same year so this was a pretty unrealistic episode and forced drama between Kouya and Haruka. Should've just make it a complete rain race with them racing with wet tires from the beginning because accident could still happen even with wet tires though with that said it's a great moment when Haruka retires from the race, can feel the tension and relief.

Though I can see Satsuki will have a pretty drastic character change next time around, he's also a bad character atm since he's just James Hunt bootleg and I hope he'll change to spice up the anime.

And also, I hate Alice so bad that I hope she didn't exist in this anime, girl just can't read the air and is a waste of space, usually I want a girl character in male dominated anime but this time around I'm fine with the dudes only.

That T-Bone was heavy, he probably survives because its anime, but these kinds of crashes usually result in death, with Hubert and Van't Hoff being very recent examples.

It'll be interesting to see how this will affect the characters on the second half of this anime.

Also, kinda ironic that the guy who idolizes Hunt has been victim of a crash reminiscent to that of a certain driver in the 1976 Nurburgring GP (Lauda)

Last episode was a bit boring

This one was good

What makes motorsport dangerous
But it’s what adrenalin junkies live for haha

I wish the racing was more technical and they focused more the racing and the season with points and podiums
Than the backstory of the characters
Their main focus is on the characters rather than the racing…

From a car guys perspective it’s a little disappointing

Also if their focusing on past of characters

Did Haruka race go karts as a younger kid to obviously climb up to formula 4

As you would with open wheel racing…

I didn't like it at first that there was so much focus on drama in this series, but it works surprisingly well. I found it unrealistic how they drove with slicks in the rain, it's impossible to drive so aggressive with slicks in such heavy rain, plus in real life the race would have been stopped much earlier (red flag) not just after the accident. All in all, an entertaining episode. I think for what it's supposed to be the anime is quite good, but in terms of presenting this sport in a really action-packed and detailed way it fails. The focus really seems to be on the background stories of the characters.

Kouya trying his best to get back to his old mindset, it certainly is a trauma to overcome.

Haruka is improving on the Suzuka race, though the Belsorriso twin drivers are also retaining their pole positions as per usual. Haruka getting his new personal best of qualifying in 4th, and Kouya is officially a media representative for the F4 event as he continues taking pictures. But as Satsuki puts it, what separates both No. 1 and No. 2 drivers can be considered down to luck for the win. Even though it's been years since Haruka's dad Toru's ghastly incident being in very bad raining conditions, it looks as if Haruka will face a similar situation all over again. Haruka opting for slicks to get a good balance in the unpredictable weather, it all comes down to strategy as Belsorriso also opts for slicks to manage their risks. However, Haruka knows his father's death hs nothing to do with the weather, though the driver himself will weigh all possibilities and ace to the top as he can.

Kouya not wanting Haruka to race, and even if so in rain tires, he's very worried for him since Haruka cannot predict what will happen, though that's all in his perspective. Despite the pep talk, Haruka stands by his decision, and "It's lights out and away we go" as the race starts cautiously, analyzing the ever-changing weather and tire conditions which would wear and tear, and also enable overtaking, increasing the hope for Haruka to be on the podium. But as soon as hopes are up, it dashes hopes for a good race with torrential rain, almost imitating the same conditions as before. Instead, Haruka in full focus, cutting his speed and eventually retiring out of the race out of safety, the worse has instead happened to Satsuki who crashes out of the race, giving Kouya tha traumatic nightmares once again.

Despite being different to F1, everything else remains the same. Definitely a very realistic sport.

@SRT1738 they do, you can check out highlights from Zandvoort dutch GP this year. It played out very similar to this ep - it was raining a bit at the start and the track was a bit wet but still everyone choose slicks since with that much rain the track would still have dried enough, but STILL all of them were sliding around even in f1, that was unrealistic here.. And then the rain just went down like crazy few laps in and everyone had to change tyres.. Later in the race it started raining even woorse that they were sliding around even with intermediate tyres so that was also pretty unrealistic for these boys to be able to keep it on the track that long.. i know they can't change tyres in f4 but that would have been a red flag even in f1 so its craazy that it didnt happen here
