Takumi is the sh*t!
Well one thing I've learned from this experience, is that a princess is still a princesss even when she is naked.

Well, that was a stupid way for him to win the race, using the rally squirrel.

Well, Takumi is quite monstrous on downhill, especially when he's a chaser. And it's not something new for him to be on a par with more powerful cars, really. He managed to keep winning even when he had much more underpowered engine.
As for uphill... As Tomoyuki said, they messed up car's settings, and AE86 isn't so much underpowered on uphill as it once used to be. But even despite that, Takumi should had lost if not for the squirrel.

Well he was competing a pro with more powerful car, and if even luck wasn't on his side, that would be too much of a handicap, so I wouldn't consider it as unfair win

That guy is out of luck, in term of skill and cars, he had the advantage, but the goddess of luck wasn't with him.. Hopefully he could get out of his current crisis, he doesn't seems like a bad guy to me..

Lame way to win tbh. But the guy did have to bump Takumi's car like a douche in order to pass him so karma is a bitch I suppose lol.

Well that went fast. In a few minutes, the guy went from "this amateur has only been so-so" to "He feels like a younger version of myself" ...

Japanese wildlife to the rescue ! Still, being a pro he's not used to encountering unexpected obstacles. Takumi wouldn't have cared, he would've squashed the squirrel xD

Seems like the results for Bunta's ominous comments will still have to wait :p

Still a nice victory I must say, that bump in the back was quite a nasty move from a pro racer, but well things sure are getting interesting with these races! Let's see what's next!

I didn't expect Takumi to win and he did it
His luck is just too OP, first leaves now this xD

I don't even see what kind of animal that was
Probably snow monkey or squirrel
Doesn't seem it's near Nagano so probably not monkey

That race was great. It got more and more exciting as it went.
Mostly clean except for that "bump"... close finish too.

FOREVER!!!
That transition was so amazing. XD

Great race, the winning because of the squirrel is a little tacked but it isn't enough to bring down the rest of the great race.

Welp, not even a pro can defeat Takumi I guess. At least the race was cool, his trick was bold, and luck played a role at the end so it's cool. Ryousuke did the right thing by trusting Takumi here, and he was also proud of him.

Holy shit this episode was insanely intense, one of the most intense episodes in the entire franchise. Turning headlights like that was so reckless, but the only possible method. Luck was on Takumi's side luckily, if not for the lucky ending, Takumi would've lost for sure. I'm surprised that Takumi managed to pull off a win against an actual professional racer though, that's so awesome! Great episode.

Hands down, this intense race was superb. If it weren't for the animal, Takumi should've lost that battle. But as for the rest of the race, that "disappointing line" was adapted too quickly by Takumi. He's still evolving.

Fuck this got me pumped. The flow of the race was good and the outcome reasonable, even tho Takumi would've lost without the help of lady fortune.

Awesome episode! Brilliant soundtrack and many cool tricks used during the race by both sides!

Takumi won, who would have thought? ;-) But jokes aside. I really enjoyed this episode. Build-up was maybe not excellent, but it was fine enough to make this race entertaining even before it started. One information alone, that one about the enemy which is a professional and active racer, was enough to make me wonder how whole Project.D is gonna handle this situation. Keisuke and Takumi, while very skilled, are still used to battle street racers, not those who race for a living.

Anyway, was it a squirrel or a bird, a bat maybe? I think it looked like a squirrel for me at first, but I'm too lazy to double check it, that's why I'm asking, haha. Damn, Takumi's enemy had real bad luck in the last phase of their race. ;p

Takumi's unpredictability + a little bit of luck allowed him to outplay even pro racers. This truly was a creative and epic race, suprised it only lasted one episode tho. Maybe we will finaly get to see Bunta's new car next

really dislike how for quite some time now Takumi only ever wins out of luck or some elaborate trick, I liked it a lot better when back in season 1 he made up for his cars poor power by perfectly taking corners.

Now its not like his car is weak with that racing engine but he still only wins by luck or tricks basically?
The racing lost its intensity when totally different cars just stick together and a squirrel decides the match..

Good race and episode! Karma bit Tomo on the ass with that bump, which was just pathetic for him to do to an amateur like that. I don't think Takumi will count this as a win though, so my prediction that he'd get cocky after this I don't think will hold.

Kind of pissed me off that Tomo just congratulated Takumi on his "luck" the whole post-match discussion. Like yeah, no shit he had luck at the end, but if he wasn't exceptionally skilled and able to evolve mid-race, he'd not even have gotten there.

TBF, that's how it gets in most things when you're at the top level. Everyone is the same or nearly the same matched, so it comes down to things either basically out of your control (car, tuning, tricks, etc) or things fully out of your control (squirrel, etc.)

doesnt exactly make for an entertaining setup compared to earlier seasons though, it just feels generic now. Also its completely dishonest to its earlier setting, racing with perfectly tuned cars against people who struggle to buy tires. Idk that just feels dumb to me

About time this ends here, So there is meaning in Ryosuke making Takumi race the pro no wonder it makes sense

This pro seemed like he was holding back but at the same time he's really serious about racing Takumi at the end, That bump may as well have been karma thought it was a cat too this is again another time like the infamous Shingo race he didn't give no fucks

Takumi yet again with a big brain move what is he cooking to be this good at adapting.

Well, I saw the squirrel, so I can see this outcome in two ways, the first way is that he lost because he wasn't used to unexpected obstacles like that in a mountain pass, which is why Ryosuke said Takumi was more experienced in.

The second way I took it is that he did let Takumi win, he had seen what he had made to reach him, the whole crazy bit with the lights off, and once he had learned what his friend wanted to teach him he decided it was best to let Takumi win to not break his spirit, Takumi earned his respect as a racer with that insane trick, and his complete concentration, he said to himself, damn, this is the kind of resourcefulness and risk taking I have been missing from my racing, it's this kind of passion I need to look back into, the need to win whatever means necessary in the field, and once he remembered that, he felt refreshed and decided it was not his job anyway to win that race, he did not pull any punches earlier so he decided to give Takumi the spot so he can continue growing, confident, he told him it had been just luck, but that is just enough for Takumi to say, hey, I'm good, I can do this, that is the other way I can take the result of this race on. As I said before, I did see the squirrel in a split of a second, it's here if you pause, so it could have been indeed, pure luck as well, but I like to think Takumi wasn't really lucky, but that he won the respect of a proracer with his driving, and won the race as a treat from a more professional driver.

Do you think it is lame if he did let Takkumi win? Well, in my opinion, I know that seeing Takumi win could be seen as part of the appeal of the races, but he has reached a ceiling that it is hard to beat, like being with a proracer himself, I think the point of this race was not necessarily that he is always going to win, but that he is always so resourceful and has such an indomitable spirit for racing that you just can't help it but feel inspired.

Obviously, we are not ready for that yet as an audience, so Takumi wins, if he loses, there would be a whole arc where he has to get back up on his feet, a rematch arc, no what a drag for the proracer! If we see it in the eyes of the proracer breaking the spirit of someone he considers a younger version of himself it wouldn't be necessarily a cool thing, there is nothing he gains by proving himself to a kid, and if he wins he then has to wait for Takumi to look for him on a rematch or he will feel defeated as well, it's just not cool, losing to a street racer because of technique or ability is not a good thing, but losing to a street racer due to bad luck is just enough to keep everyone happy, and pat that younger him on the back.

I know I have talked a lot this post, I haven't posted too much or at all with this show since I always watch it before going to sleep, and most of the times I don't have the energy, but today I say it because I feel it is necessary, I feel this show has impressed me with battles and victories that feel genuine, which is something I can't say of shonen anime, in the first season Takumi won with pure skill, in the second season, he lost, he had to make up for what he lacked, a good equipment, in the movie he learned the saw he needed a mentor and now he is working as much as he can doing all sorts of ideas and tactics, I know people have said that now it feels Takumi wins by tricks, but I still feel Takumis skill, like when he took that corner with a tire flying on the air while trying to keep the weight in the rear tires, or right now in this race being able to race at max speed with no lights, no lights. All those corners he took in the first season? They were tricks too, but tricks that require pure and dedicated skill, which is why it's so awesome. Some people think the squirrel part was a bad bit, and Takumi won because a silly Deus ex machina, but no, he didn't win for real, he was just patted ln the back, because he showed he had what it takes to inspire another racer.
