| I've never worked out something like a top five or top ten list just for specifically cartoons/Western animation, as I usually maintain two lists - one for anime and one where live action and cartoons are mixed. On my Top 10 (non-anime) TV series overall list, the only cartoon I include on it is Avatar - The Last Airbender at rank #7. I don't include anime on that list because otherwise they might occupy at least three or four slots including my overall #1. So, to just think about specifically cartoons separately: - Avatar - The Last Airbender - The Wild Thornberrys - Hey Arnold! - The Legend of Korra - Rugrats - Courage the Cowardly Dog - TaleSpin - Rupert - Gargoyles - Exosquad - South Park (seasons 1 - 10) - House of Mouse - Caillou - The Oblongs - Redwall (I didn't count until after writing it up, but I guess this would be something like a Top 15). |

| Excluding anime, I think it's really important to recognize that Adventure Time basically single handedly saved the American cartoon industry by ending a several year dry spell of nothing but crap and ushering in an era where many cartoons inspired by Adventure Time started integrating plot, attempting to appeal to older demographics, stepping up the overall quality, and experimenting in all sorts of new ways. Unfortunately the show kind of died out slowly with a whimper instead of going out strong running full speed with a bang and it left like a gazillion plot threads without any conclusion but the show was still very good. Although I wouldn't necessarily call it my favorite, I just have great respect for it. Not sure what my favorite regular cartoon would be but my favorite adult oriented cartoon on the other hand would definitely be South Park. It is an understatement to say that its creators are geniuses and it is still easily the funniest / smartest comedic cartoon ever. |
