Watching the last two episodes back to back was probably a good idea. I was so into it and this finale is definitely among the contenders for the most emotional conclusion this year. I especially liked how somber the tone was with a very minimalistic effort. Still hit in the feels;_; Was a wild ride for sure and although the highlight was the focus on the characters and their dramatic struggle, the battles in Granbelm were quite epic as well. Very nice series overall and yet another gem this season that was overshadowed by bigger names. 7,5/10 My thanks to everyone who worked on this. |

My thoughts haven't changed from last week. Granbelm, for me at least, still remains one of the underdogs of this season and possibly 2019 overall. The final battle between Shingetsu and Suishou was a thrilling ride from start to finish. Shingetsu had the help of Mangetsu that helped her Armanox evolve and when that familiar trope of the main OP theme stated playing, you could tell that Suishou was going to lose this fight, and about bloody damn time as well! XD Shingetsu stayed true to her wish in the end, although the build-up towards that decision that could've made her sway from her resolve was rather intense and somber at the same time. The epilogue scene with Shingetsu was nice and it was good to see Nene looking like a proper adult now! As for the final scene with the transfer student, although it never shows the face of the student, I think it's implied that it was Mangetsu, as you could see Shingetsu's expression going from surprised to happy at the end. =) Nexus should pat themselves on their back. They did a really good job with the animation quality of this show, mainly for the Armanox fights during the Granbelm battles. Just seeing mecha fights in 2D for the first time in a while is rather satisfying. Another thing I liked about this show was the excellent soundtrack and the voice acting. Splendid stuff! 8/10 is my final score. =) |

Okay. Ending was good. Unexpected enough, no happy ending bs, reasonably negative but somewhat good concidering all that happened. Suishou wins antagonist reward easily. 9/10 |

well then... Guess they went with the Merge win but erase all magic and no one revives and being the only one that knows about magic route. lol so... does this count as "bad end"? (since technically all other mages are permanently dead) ___ ___ ___ Tho... I believe they didn't really "erase" "erase" magic... it just casted a seal over the moon to prevent the magic from reaching Earth. (as showned by the moon being covered up and the pink light disappeared) Cause if magic erase itself, it means the magic it cast to erase is negated because there would be no magic to erase magic and thus the wish does nothing. So it just cast a seal instead. Which would make it more plausible to conclude the transfer student at the end is indeed Mangetsu, as somehow Shingetsu retained her magic as Princep which allows her to materialize Mangetsu into existence. But does not have the magic from the moon to revive anyone. ___ ___ ___ Overall, I think it's not bad of a series. It's good in term of the current tragic based mahou shoujo series (from magica madoka and on wards) Tho I personally prefer more "happy end" in my battle-action mahou shoujo series (from Nanoha) The entire series of Granblem was interesting, but somewhat predicable. The only surprising fact in the series was Mangetsu being a doll and not the actual Protag/ MC of the series. |

The core problems with this show are entirely with the writing, both in the exceedingly verbose action scenes that rarely made sense, but far more so in the resolution of pretty much every character's arc, or rather, the lack of one since really grew or developed. There was certainly potential in especially Mangetsu, created to be a fanatical and devoted comparion, ready, willing, and downright eager to die for Shingetsu, except that all of it was presented not as some kind of twisted version of friendship or a person, but the purest most ideal form of friendship. "I exist solely to die for you" was bad enough, but things were made worse by the rules changing constantly. The first two people eliminated suffered only the consequence of not getting to play the game any more. The next one had her life rewritten. The fourth was obliterated from existence, which they also tried to romantisize instead of reacting to it like a fate worse than death. I was already fairly aghast at how blasé they were about driving a girl insane and then rewriting her entire life instead of making amends or acknowledging their own roles in driving her off the bend. The action bits were a bit better, but the writing undercut that a lot of the time too. I could not for the life of me tell you how Suishou tanked being stabbed, or if you showed me five different pew pew beam barrages, which ones were the real ones that counted versus the ones that were just going to be explode harmlessly against someone's face, which didn't stop them from narrating what was supposedly going on and how one had the upper hand, but not really, but yes really… all the while it's just a laser light show while squat little mechs zipped to and fro against a technicolor background. Some of the fights were decently enough done, but simplification and a lot less random technobabble would have helped just as much as solving the dramatic issues. |

I was honestly a little let down by this ending, really. I dunno, I expected it to have a greater message, but it played out pretty predictably. I'd still give this show an 8/10 overall, definitely the underrated gem of the season that most people skipped over due to the unconventional mech designs and flashy animation. |

A bitter-sweet ending. Definitely not a happy one. Those two really died, after all. I suppose. The end came fast. It would have been better a longer epilogue... just to give us a more solid 'after climax'. Anyway, the way things are going, Sounan Desu Ka and Granbelm will be probably the best animes of this season Ill be watching. 9/10 |

I think i might finally understood the ending ; could be simple. It is René Descartes "i think, therfore i am" - all the characters are reborn to the world again, as they explained, mangetsu too, the new transfer student i bet - since she thinks of her own free will, she manifests herself ofc into the real world. .."thats how you become "you " - they said.. So ofc mangetsu becomes real too...and since shingetsu is now the last controversal rest of magic left in the world, it ofc becomes real for her too.. she realizes step by step, sees the other people alive and happy.. - so she is also still thinking and acting on her own..so "i think, therefore i am" .. and so the circle closes, magetsu can see her, shingetsu realize "thats i.. therefore i am" ..and she becomes part of the real world too, no magic left for real in the world, flowers bloomed out, she fades out of this transperent being, bcome more colorful/real, noone died, the world is magic free and all traces can safely be removed, since all fits again.. i think..something like that..i wasnt rly the best in motherlanguage and crazy teachers tourchering us with shakespear & co. |

I suppose this is another Evangelion for me. I see a boring anime with bland characters I can't invest in within a world that barely explains itself. Yet everyone else sees it as deep and symbolic. All I saw was a generic 'humans had magic and magic is bad so lets get rid of it' storyline. Guess I am just not sophisticated enough to understand. Regardless I rate on my personal enjoyment. Boring characters, generic story, predictable, forced drama. 5/10 for me. |

This was a very good series to watch. It sure deserved more attention... I found the direction, animation, sound design, fight choreography and character development really good. But like a lot of people said, reminds me of Madoka and for me, also the final episode of Serial Experiments Lain but a bit happier/soft. Because of that the endind was a bit predictable but at the same time it was very well built. 9/10 |

A very good ending to a good show. As I hoped, Mangetsu was alive because magic or not, the fact that she had a will means that she was alive. This is a good conclusion. Good temptation and attempt at making Shingetsu doubt. But she had many things she wanted to do even if people wouldn't notice her. It's odd, though; in other anime the one who wants to erase magic is the villain. But I guess magic was too damaging in this world. Most odd of all, is that it's a show entirely made up of women! With only a few men even seen; a voice on TV, a father or two in the background. When they show a powerful family, it is only the mother they show. An ordinary family, it's the mother we see, with the dad in the background. When they fight for magic power, only girls fight, and this isn't even commented on. It is all really weird. Well, the otakus sure got their fill of waifus here, whether cute or cool. Still, a good show. The atmosphere felt a bit like a dream. |

On that note, I am not a fan of this ending, it's similiar to Madoka which is quite a Downer Ending, but Madoka Rebellion nailed the bitter Ending nicely in a Fake world where everyone is Happy. But this is actually quite worse and certainly doesnt fall to both bitter or happy Ending, it falls to Downer ending where the girls who fought are forgotten This was more a trope for "Fate Worse than Death" as they dont even EXISTED in the first place despite all their effort only Shingetsu and Mangetsu somehow made it towards last scene. "Leaving the ending to the watcher/reader". I knew there was no way out for this one, and it does actually happens. |

Tbh I don't consider myself stupid, I just think Granbelm tried too hard to be "deep". I've seen this ending formula a hundred times. (Black haired girl rewrites the universe? Hmm... where have I seen that before?) This anime was mediocre to say the least. Hand drawn robots are cool. Other than that, I couldn't care about the plot or the characters. At all. 7/10 and I'm being generous. |

It's a good show overall, some of the casts I couldn't care less, especially the last antagonist, they didn't feel compelling enough for me. Nevertheless, the last few episodes building up to the finale to wrap the show up was a whole treat. It's been a long time since I've bawled my eyes out for an anime, mostly it was just tinge of sadness, that's it. I would give this a 7.5/10, but since I'm being generous since the low MAL score I'll round that up to 8. |

Don't get what happened at the end ? All I can tell is that she rid the world with magic, Shingetsu trying to make the flowers bloom is a example that shows it . And that mangestu is back if that what it implies . So could Shingetsu wish also have had mangestu tied into it ?? From the looks of it shingetsu isn't invisible .. as there two girls the one who was Anna little sister noticed that someone was maybe watching them . And no one ran through her . |

Seems like Mangetsu came back in the epilogue, I liked the subtly in it, you can either believe she was brought to life or pretend it is someone else. Hard to say it isn't her since otherwise, I can't really see the meaning in that sense. That said, I was not opposed to having some visual confirmation of her face or something of the sorts, Shingetsu smile will have to do. Yes, the anime is underrated, but that doesn't turn it right away in AOTS or something, It was a solid 8 for me (8.3/10). The first half lacks of any flavor, I don't dig the designs that much (outside the Rezero's ones), especially the mecha. I would have preferred to see Anna handled better than just being a crazy bitch till the end, and also the animation and execution does lack some polish, more development was needed. Things, however, get far better in the latter half, I took my takes on what would be the twist and still came out surprised, this is really not a predictable anime, with an ending that surely doesn't betray itself, Shingetsu didn't shy away from it, just to get her friends back, and it does make for an impacting conclusion. Ep12 ended on a really high note with Mangetsu death, ep11 was also quite strong, despite appearing to be solely SoL at first, and things were already picking up ever since ep6, till we reach major teases of the truth by ep9 and the reveal on ep10, so I can't really complain, very solid second half, plus I just love that ED theme, made everything connect much better, upon searching Uru also did Freesia, IBO S2 last ED, she surely has talent and sensitivity to handle lyrics that move you... Wanted more yuri out of this, not gonna lie, surely we had that crazy white-haired bitch (cant like her personality, a lame villain in a way too), trying to eat that loli's soul, that was the most yuri you could get from this, meh. The ending and later half really made this show turn out much better than expected, Mangetsu turned out to be a positive surprise by the end but Shingetsu is probably my favorite of the show... with her job done I want to hope she will live the rest of her days in peace with herself, best girl for sure. Guess you wanted a truly happy ending? |

It had quite the action packed finish that I can say, but the rest felt rather weak. The twists and such were nice but it felt constantly repetitive and nothing really happened or so it felt. What I did notice was the lack of male characters, I've never seen an anime with so less male characters in them, I think in total we see 6 male characters throughout the whole series? And most of them don't even have lines? That's one part that sure felt rather strange to me. But well the final battle was quite epic, but other than that nothing too much in my honest opinion. |

firstly i have to say i really hate with anime does this every time with the final ep they always try to put as much as possible in the tiny time frame that they have knowing they would love to add a lot more instead what should happen is every final ep should be a lot longer at least an hr long imo with that said the final ep was good , finally took the other doll out and got her wish but really sucks that no one will ever be able to see her talk to her ect and she'll just be around forever alone as for the last person to show up im pretty sure it may have been mangetsu but again just like a lot of anime series it never showed the face and just letf you to guess what happened but it is what it is but yeah a great watch this series was one of those thats a 1 time watch imo but nonetheless was a great watch |

After episode 7 I was sure the big boss would be Suishou...and she was a hell! The whole thing of the girls being replaced after being defeated was sad, it was hard on Ernesta, plus the the fact that Mangetsu was created by magic. Sooo that's really how things end ? Shingetsu decided to be stubborn and erase the mana even though it meant for people who died during the fights to be forgotten forever (she consequently sacrificed the memories of those people in the process) and for her to remain alone without being able to die ? That's dumb. No matter what kind of moral they were trying to head at, that's just plain dumb. I can't see how can Suishou's prediction not become correct at some point. There's no way Shingetsu's gonna be able to live like that until the ends of time, the mind is simply not made for that, no matter how happy she is for now. Now I need to write down my final impressions of each character in order to see how I truly feel about this show. -Mangetsu : First of all, she is very stereotypical. Second of all, her change of heart after her conversation with Shisui was way too quick. Third of all, even if I appreciate the development they provided to her character, at the end it looks like they didn't know what they truly wanted her to be. At first she is her own person, but actually she is a puppet, but actually she has her own soul, but actually no it's just a representation of Shingetsu's mind, but actually she can and will be her own person but until then she's always been the representation of Shingetsu's thoughts. So the Mangetsu we've been following actually isn't her own person but a manifestation of Shingetsu's thoughts. Okay. Way to ruin a pretty good character. -Shingetsu : The character I was supposed to love, and yet the character that ruined the show for me. She wants to erase the mana because according to her it changes people but kinda forgets that what happened to Anna wasn't entirely the mana's fault but also her (Shingetsu) own, she says that humans will keep making mistakes but also learn from it and yet she just makes a huge mistake by erasing the mana (yes it was a mistake, I won't change my mind regarding that), she complains about being hated by everyone even though Anna's family loved her, she complains about being alone and yet is alone at the end and happy anyway... And that outfit when she won was ridiculous. So definitely not a character I want to remember, she could've been good but they did nonsense with her. -Suishou : Best girl, hand down. I honestly wouldn't mind a spin-off about her being the Granbelm referee and gainging her own will while gradually losing her mind in the process. It would've been way more interesting than the story we got. She made some very good points about humanity, like, really. I don't want to be edgy or whatever but she really is right when it comes to humanity's selfishness. And like I said, I'm 100% convinced what she said to Shingetsu will ultimately happen. And wow, I love Aoi Yuki so much... Suishou's definitely a very good villain with a well developed and believable personality. I just wish she had more screen time to be fully fleshed out. -Anna : Second best character, though I wish they developed her a bit more. They pushed her insanity too far and I don't think that was necessary. Also, I still don't get how she came to work alongside Suishou and Rosa. But she was still a very interesting character with an amazing Seiyuu. And I wonder something, it's actually interesting how her behavior when she's losing it is much more similar to Suishou's than I first thought, could it be that Suishou manipulated her ? I wish this got adressed... -Nene : A very likable character, that's for sure, but I was very disappointed to see that her issues regarding her mother have never been truly adressed again after her defeat. It looked like she didn't care that much... Also, it felt weird to see her with an adult body. I prefer her as a child. -Kuon : While her relationship with her sister was pretty sweet, I can't say her character interested me. I just don't see what purpose it truly served, plus, aside from her love for her sister, I don't feel like she had any kind of real personality. -Rosa : Well we barely got to know her. She just replaced Anna after the latter's death but like.... Why ? She doesn't even look like the rest of the family, it doesn't make sense. And that 8th girl who remained a useless side character until the end, why is she on the poster ?! Was it to create some suspense by making us believe she would play a role ? That's stupid. Overall, I think Granbelm could have been a great job, but unfortunately, it failed. The characters' psychology were pretty interesting but haven't been explored correctly, there were incoherences, some characters were bland, the story was very difficult to understand... Too bad. It's not a bad show, but it could've been so much better... At least it was entertaining and I rwally liked Suishou, though even she could've been way better. Also, I truly find amusing how some musics sound like something made by Alan Silvestri. At some point I thought it was playing the Back to the Future main theme. |

great ending, shingetsu defeated crazy suishou after an awesome fight and she decided still to erase all magic. I expected against all odds a happy ending resembling mai-hime but to my surprise everyone stayed "dead" (anna, mangetsu and kuon), pretty sad if I may say so. Now give me that slice of life with shingetsu, clare, kuon's sister and that new transfer student to ease my pain. overall 8/10 this episode 5/5 |

From beginning to end this series was a constant string of grand finales. Just total and complete beam-spam overload. What was even the point of the 'real' final battle when it just ended up a repeat of the Anna finale? The early comic relief and two episodes dealing with the Mangetsu reveal are the only high points. |

Wow. Just wow. That was a beautiful ending. It had the action, it had the emotion, and it wrapped everything up. Yo that part when they entered Magiaconatus and Suishou stabbed Shingetsu's Armanox, but then Shingetsu WALKED OUT FROM BEHIND A PILLAR AND STABBED HER was SO BADASS!!! It was very atisfying to see Suishou defeated. And I'm glad Shingetsu was able to have her wish granted. But oh, I feel really really sad for her. She did want she wanted and freed everyone from magic, but now she's gonna be alone...forever. She said she'd be fine with that, but that just makes me feel so sad and lonely for her. I loved this show so much. The action was top-notch, and I especially like shows with magic/fantasy action. The soundtrack was really good, and the visuals were BEAUTIFUL (especially the purple aesthetics on the nights of the full moon and the fantasy worlds). I also really liked all the mech designs!! I'm giving it a 10/10, I think it's become one of my favorites!! And normally I wouldn't complain about this or anything but...the score seems reeeeeally low imo. Granted it's MAL and scores don't really mean anything blah blah blah but like, I'm surprised this isn't even in the 7.something range. I'm not expecting everyone to give it a high score like me, like I loved it and all and I realize everyone has their own anime that appeals to them, but still, even for MAL, a 6.70 (as I'm writing this) just seems...so low that I'm really surprised |
