Been there, done that.
If you try hard enough, there's sexism in anything so I just glance over people who think anime does noting but objectify women.

Life in and of itself is sexist. Doesn't the fact that women have to menstruate mean nature is sexist?

This should be moved to creative corner. Attempting to force people to sit through 10 minutes of your blog experience about anime conventions is just rude.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Over there, I'm everywhere. I know that.

I sat through a minute of the so-called "video." It's a still picture of a bunch of anime girls with a voiceover of someone giving their opinion.

I'm sorry, but did this really need a video? This is what annoys me about Youtube. I'd much rather read this guy's rant than listen to it while staring at a still picture. I can read a lot faster than he can speak, plus I could skim over it and read just the relevant parts. Just because he made a lame video doesn't make his opinion any more relevant than a random post on a forum. In fact, the fact that he chose to record it rather than transcribe it makes me think (perhaps unfairly) that he's too lazy to actually type it out, causing me to wonder if he put much thought into it at all.

Okay, end rant.

Now, from what I got from watching 1 minute of the video, he's responding to people who claim that anime is sexist. I'm sure in the last 9 minutes he explains why they're wrong, but I didn't get that far.

So let me just give my own opinion. Yes, anime is sexist. But it's equal opportunity sexist. Sometimes women are defined one-dimensionally and especially in the harem genre they're dependent upon a man for their happiness.

On the other hand, men are also often portrayed unfairly; either they have super powers which give them the ability to overcome all the obstacles they face, or they're wimps who end up gettiing the girls despite having no redeeming qualities. In both cases, forces outside his control determine his destiny. He didn't choose to have those powers. He didn't actually do anything to get the girls. It just happened.

But you know what? That's okay. I don't watch anime to learn how to treat women, and I certainly don't watch it to find any kind of role model. It's entertainment. It's escapism. I would be disgusted at many of my favorite characters if they existed in real life. Just because I laugh at To Love-Ru doesn't mean I'm some kind of sexual deviant. So really, who cares if anime is sexist?

I don't care about people complaining about sexism in anime. I also don't care about people that want to criticize them. I don't really have time to watch 10 minutes videos on YouTube. I usually don't even click on links or I stop watching after a few seconds (even with music) cause I get bored fast.

Watched the beginning a bit. Seems he wants to to criticize some other female that made a vid where she complained about sexism? So these peole always will exist. His video won't help much there.

My opinion: I don't care about fictional sexism. It is totally okay. In some middle-age-like setting even rape is required to make it more realistic (= better atmosphere). I know about these threads from some German RPG maker forums where people often made games in middle-age-settings and others whined if there was even the slightest bit of implied rape only.

Also: If those "guns don't kill people" then there is no sexism in anime. Only the people making anime or watching anime could perceive it as sexism. But as long as you know it is fictional only you should not care.

Yes if it is for fanservice reasons in a normal anime (not hentai - hentai is porn here it is for your pleasure and totally okay) it might be bad if it doesn't fit the setting/plot and is just random. (Bad lke the other fanservice.) But then I just drop the anime because it is bad not because of sexism.

You're taking what I said out of context. Notice the "and" in the middle of my quote. What I said was:

lasterrending said:

AND

lasterrending said:
especially in the harem genre they're dependent upon a man for their happiness.

(The "sometimes" at the beginning of the sentence applies to the second clause as well as the first)

Taken in context, both of these statements are true.

Not gonna listen to some nerd babbling for 10 minutes. Also these kind of threads are obviously only for advertising some shitty youtubers (most of the time OP).

How do you manage to find sexism towards men from self-insert characters and power fantasies that are made to pander them?

Watched that video before (or at least enough of it to get the gist of what he was saying and then get bored).

I agree with it for the most part. Of course it's fine to not like ecchi/hentai/harem anime if it doesn't fit with your preferences, but the people who cry about it being sexist are poisoning the well.

Something can be prejudiced against a demographic while still pandering to that demographic.

For instance, take your typical Hollywood action movie. These movies are predominantly targeted toward men. Yet they glorify men who are physically strong, violent, and lacking in any kind of sensitivity. I'm not particularly strong or violent, and I like to think I'm sensitive, so I could easily find this stereotype offensive.

Now take your typical wimpy harem protagonist. Weak, indecisive, and incapable of rational thought whenever a girl shows the slightest interest in him. Another stereotype I could find offensive if I chose to do so.

Yet both of these genres are targeted toward the male demographic.

Yea I don't feel like listening to ten minutes of some guy hurling petty insults at anyone who disagrees with his views.

I know firsthand from being a former tumblr user that certain fandoms (like Steven Universe) can be downright insane, but there are times when I actually have to agree with the so called "SJW" when it comes to certain things.

Sometimes anime can go too far, like with Cross Ange., The plot was just a flimsy pretext to put its female characters through all kinds of demeaning and always sexualized violence. And the characters were so unpleasant that it felt like the writer needed to let out his "all women are bitches" bile.

I dunno, I think a silly ecchi show would be less offensive than a show about a show with such a dark and messed up narrative using it as an excuse to torture skimpily dressed female characters.

I got the Youtube's aothor not watching through all of it. There's claearly almost no sexism in anime from both sides. Women dominating it is just for fetish purposes and regards weak male MCs, well, a lot was said about otakus themselves and their culture and blah-blah.

And who cares about some weird minority on the West who wants to see anti-whatever in whatever? Give me a break.

I strongly advise you Nagai Go's works if you want real strong women and feminism. Bubblegum Crisis and several well-known 80s OVAs and movies like Dirty Pair, Dream Hunter Fandora and Gall Force are great too. They're about women who has power, will and stay feminine at same time.

A dudebro who has the most sexist images to represent his YT-account, a great way to start a discussion and it's not biased at all!

Which also ends my point because it's utterly useless to talk about a topic with people who don't even try to see the other side of the story.
